    That is a Hurdy Gurdy. They all three used to be in a folk metal band called Eluvietie. You need to check them out too
    EDIT: just to clarify, I wrote this before watching the video, so i didn't realize he mentioned the previous band, just not by name

      Oh, man, a Hurdy Gurdy, that's awesome. I love it since Bear McCreary used it for the soundtrack of the series Black Sails.

      Since finding folk bands like this the Hurdy Gurdy has probably become my fave instrument. Love the way it sounds

      If I had to hear a song from Eluveitie it would have to be King, but anything before Anna left will be awesome!

  • @michaelable8399

    The opening instrument is the hurdy gurdy, and instrument dating back the the Renaissance and even prior to it. Also dubbed the "mechanical violin". A wonderful instrument rarely seen in modern times

    I'm so happy to hear Cellar Darling in this channel! It's a great band that deserve more recognition! And i really admire Anna, singer, Hurdy-Gurdy, keyboard player, and also audio engineer. I'm looking foward to another CD song's reactions

    Honestly I would love to see a video on the album as a whole as it's an entire story and its really amazing to see the same lyrics across different songs and how they tie together. Particularly I really enjoy "love" and "freeze" in the album

      insomnia is their best song. very progressive and emotive.
      edit: watching them live tonight, which is how I stumbled here

    Had to comment before even watching the video. Cellar Darling is one of my favorite bands. They were on my top 5 most played on Spotify a few years ago and are often a band I turn to when I'm not sure what I feel like listening to. Their first album is amazing but each of the songs are an individual performance, whereas The Spell is a full story from start to finish. They have tons of amazing songs but some of my favorites, if you're looking to react to more, are Fire, Wind, & Earth, Under the Oak Tree (read to lyrics to that one), Hang, The Spell, or their 11min long DANCE which is an EP of its own.

    This band is great, I came across them because of Spotify autoplay. My favourite songs are Pain, Death, and Love. The first three tracks from this album. Another band you might enjoy is Kalandra with their songs Ensom, Brave New World, or Virkelighetens Etterklang.

    Would love to see you react to Sirenia, a symphonic metal group from Norway. They have complex music with a mix of female clean vocals, harsh and clean male vocals, and a choir that sings in latin. They have a large discography, but Winterborn 77 or Sirenian Shores would be a great starting point.

  • @Loveless5000
    @Loveless5000 Před 2 lety

    Glad you're back. It's definitely not metal but there's a man/group named Masayoshi Takanaka that I think you would dig. Not really asking for a reaction to it but it's a good listen if you want that chill vacation vibes.

  • @BigHomieSteveTheMetalHead

    Never heard of these guys before, very interesting band. I love female fronted bands, the only complaint I have is that I wish she had some harsh vocals. I love clean vocals, but I need a balance of clean/harsh vocals to fully satisfy my tastes.
    Everything else was great, her clean vocals were phenomenal. Personally, I'm gonna have to give this a 5/10, but it would grow to a 7/10 if there were harsh vocals. Great reaction as usual Geebz, Awwriiight 🤘🤘🤙🤙

    • @GinjaNinja-qy6nj
      @GinjaNinja-qy6nj Před rokem +2

      I can't say for certain that this female front hits very many harsh vocals if that's truly what you're looking for, but they definitely have some bangers man
      I recommend poking around here in the comment section and/or places like spotify. People are bound to throw in some recommendations. Because honestly. This isn't even one of their mainstream songs. Such as Black Moon or Avalanche

    • @ericjonesy71
      @ericjonesy71 Před rokem +1

      Disagree 100%. There is no faster way to make me turn a song off than to ruin it with harsh incoherent growling.
      There are plenty of us out there that appreciate the clean vocals.

    One of my favorite bands the past few years (and they deliver it live). Anna is the best voice I have heard since Tori imo... so glad they broke off from Eluviete. This song certainly would not have been my first pick, this is a good example of the album sound but not nearly the best song... they are that good. They play a host of instruments, the odd one (as many pointed out) is a Hurdy Gurdy which is sort of a mechanical violin, flute, violin - and again they do it live also. Glad you dug it, her solo album is remarkedly different so check that out as well ("Twin Flames" would be my suggestion there) big thumbs up !

    I stopped listening to Eluveitie once these 3 were fired. I saw Eluveitie live right before that happened. The singer seemed like a real asshole. I met Anna Murphie (hurdy gurdy player) after that show and she was very nice. I'm glad they formed this band.
