Chelsea fan of 39 years here. We WERE a World Class club between 2004-2021, but we've fallen away from that so fast!! We are firmly just a mid table team on the pitch, and we are rapidly in decline off the pitch. You can't stay at the top forever. Look at clubs like AC Milan. Even Barcelona are falling away from the standards that they set over the last 2 decades.

Same as you I started at SB from ‘63. I agree with you. However whilst I don’t like the new regime, I do believe they will get a tune out of the team in the next 2 or 3 seasons and Boehly Eghbali et al will create a new stadium for Chelsea whether at SB or a new place in 5 or 6 years time. I don’t dislike Poch but he will be with us for another season and then hopefully the next manager will be a world
class coach. We cannot compare with top teams mentioned until will get the infrastructure right from new stadium for 60k fans to world class team on the pitch and top coach and management that start working far better than currently. Carefree 🔵🟦

There is a strange narrative that Ancelotti failed at Everton. I admit he didn't pull up any trees, but he didn't have the club in relegation trouble. They finished 12th and 10th in his 2 seasons. He had the best winning % of any Everton manager since Howard Kendall in the 80s (arguable Everton's most successful manager ever). He didn't do an AMAZING job, but it's not like things were dire.

To gauge if a manager is elite or not is simple, the trophy's they've won & the clubs they won them with & the resources the manager had at his disposal to work with, it's not rocket science. Poch is clearly not an elite manager as he only won 1 french league in 2 years + 2 cups with 5× the budget of their nearest rivals . Winning that at PSG is nothing,Unai Emery won 7 trophy's in 2 years at the same club & has won 4 Europa leagues at 2 different clubs,3 in a row at Sevilla & 1 at Villareal + a semi final in the champions league with the same club which is insane given the size of the club, also the budgets at the latter 2 clubs he had to work with. Unai Emery is an elite manager & Poch is not, it's that simple.

@amimorris Your reasoning just doesn't stand up to any scrutiny. It's a ridiculous assessment to be honest. Pochettino won the league title & a domestic cup in his one & only full season as manager of PSG.
Where else, what other club, was Pochettino supposed to win trophies at, Espanyol, Southampton, Spurs? Those three teams do not win trophies, period. Espanyol & Southampton haven't won a trophy for the last six million years & regarding Spurs, even serial trophy winning managers such as Mourinho & Conte didn't get near winning a trophy with Spurs.
But what Pochettino did do was become the most successful manager at Spurs in the last 60 years. No manager of Spurs has finished as high in the league as Pochettino did for over 60 years. Under Pochettino Spurs finished in the top 4 in four of the five seasons he was manager. The other season they finished 5th. Pochettino also took Spurs to a CL final, that's further than any manager in their history has taken them in the biggest competition of them all.
You talk about Unai Emery winning trophies & it's true he's got a great record in the Europa Lge. But Spurs & Pochettino were competing in the CL & not the EL in all but one of Pochettino's season's at Spurs.
Where has Pochettino had a big budget other than PSG & Chelsea? Pochettino did a much better job at Spurs than Emery did at Arsenal.

This discussion was about whether the current Chelsea owners, manager and team have the ability to get back to the very top in English and European football. I believe that although the board have made some initial errors, they have the desire and ability to do so. Can Pochettino and his coaching team develop a talented young squad into a top four team, I think the answer is yes (he has done this with Spurs). This young Chelsea group of players definitely have the ability to compete with the best? Results against the established top 6 teams have been quite impressive , they have got to the final of one competition (top 2), are in the semi-final of another (top 4) and could finish 6/7 in the league. Not to bad from a team of kids. In terms of Palmer leaving Man City, I believe is very similar to the circumstances of when Kevin De Bruyne and Mo Salah left Chelsea, They couldn't get first team football promised at 20 yrs old in front of Willian and Fabregas who were the established players in those positions. Palmer will be a top player, he has all the right attributes to go right to the top.

Livepool has won 1 PL in 30 years and during Klopp's time 1 FA Cup and 1 CL in 8 years which is a lot less than what Chelsea had won in that timeframe. While in the past 23-24 years Chelsea had won more trophy than any other PL team and just because of two seasons they are not? Just this very summer two targets that Liverpool wanted turned down the offer from Liverpool and joined Chelsea. When do these fossils of Liverpool would realize that what you had in the past is not relevant anymore. If you write off Chelsea because of two seasons then Liverpool by that definition is dead. Wait and see what you will achieve from next season after Klopp leaves I bet it would take neater 30 years to win a PL.

Boehly's consortium did listen to the experts but the experts failed them. Aubameyang, Sterling, Koulibaly, Felix, Forfana, Cucurella added to coveted young players and an existing group of proven internationals should have been on paper a contender. A poor start led to confidence issues and the firing of Tuchel. Potter was the media choice but that failed as well. Plan B was to sell virtually the whole squad to save money on wages and start afresh with young players. You could say that this is the first season for them to gel so in that context it's easier to forgive the inconsistency.

World class managers ? Mourinho is a worldf class manager because he's changed the fortunes of clubs he's been at . Klopp is a world class manager because he changed the fortunes of clubs he's been at . Unai Emery . Arteta . Xabi Alonso . Some clubs , though , and you have to agree , are expected to challenge simply because of their stature and financial power . PSG , Bayern , Madrid , Barca , ManU , Man City . Look at the managers that managed tose clubs to success , you'd expect them to with the power they have beyond other clubs and I think ou'll agree that a small pool of managers basically get all the bigger jobs which , while it doesn't mean they're not great managers , is a different achievement to what Klopp has done at Liverpool , Mourinho at Porto , Inter and Chelsea , Arteta at Arsenal , Emery at Villa and Xabi Alonso at Leverkusen .

Simon Jordan is the worst person to get an objective opinion on in regards to Chelsea's owners, Boehly, Eghbali, Feliciano, Walters and Wyss.
Simon actually denying here just a few minutes into Graeme's question that Boehly was Sporting Director. The fact that Boehly openly talked about being the Sporting Director was completely ignored by him. Boehly even did an interview and admitted "mistakes were made but we're learning and will get it right". Boehly and Eghbali were both in that Sporting Director roles, Boehly being the more prominent face but Eghbali joined at the hip.
Boehly was being suckered by player agents and other clubs and made colossal errors. Jordan is unaware or intentionally deceiving in pretending that Todd was not actually the Sporting Director. He was.
Jordan then continues his spin in regards to his claim that Petr Cech "debunked" the theory that Boehly was a "western gun slinger firing everyone". This is a very oily statement by Simon.
Petr Cech was not "fired" by Boehly no. This is true, technically. This scenario does not "debunk" for a minute that Boehly did walk into the club like a "western gun slinger" and fire everyone as it's an obvious fact for any that are not blind that he literally fired and changed over most of the staff, medical team, management team, players - right down to the headgroundsman and his son. Just look at the rapid changeover at Chelsea in such a short period of time and then consider Simon using Cech as a "debunking" of what your eyes and brain just watched happen.
As for Cech, what Simon did not say of course, is why Cech resigned. Cech said in that interview Simon referenced that he left because "it's important for the owners and the employees to have the same visions on how to building the club and the owners should have people that see it the same around them". What Petr just said, without saying, is he did NOT have, nor share, the same vision that the owners had in regards to Chelsea so he resigned. NOw what on earth would they not see through the same lenses on? Oh I don't know, maybe turning a winning club into a development club using AI Scouting for all recruitment decisions and buying Under 23 aged players to be the main squad at Chelsea despite there being an U23 development side in the first place specifically for that.
In addition to the massive change over of everything Chelsea at every single department.
Cech would have stayed if the new owners had any brains on how to run a football club.
Jordan is a slippery, quick tongued weasel that could talk the scales off a snakes back.
He met with Boehly in Qatar, him and White - he's been enamored with Todd ever since, defending him like he's his white knight in shining armour.
Like I said, the worst person to get an objective opinion as most if not ALL of the inconvenient facts are smoothly and expertly passed over.

I can't get over how much time Simon has for Todd Boehly.
His whole model is built on a misconception that their players will only gain and never lose value. Yeah sure you've spent £105M on Fernandes and £115M on Caicedo and amortised it over many years but what happens if in 2 years you want rid of them? You ain't getting £80M-£85M back for those players. Then think about all those players who aren't even playing? You're definitely making a loss on them.
Now consider that Chelsea won't be getting Champions League football for the second season running but you're running on a Champions League budget.
I think they're in big trouble, I don't see them breaking even this summer, they'll probably get a points deduction and they won't be able to spend like they've done in the past two summers.
