Hey I just cabbed an opal from lightning ridge that has a star effect. I did a video on it. Have you heard of opal with asterism????? 😮😮
Asterism is one of my favourites. I own a few star rubies, star sapphires and star rose quartz pieces! This guy has an amazing collection. Thanks for the vid!
I ❤ these visual effects! So happy to have a couple of pieces in my budding collection already.

I think it's a quartz with some interesting inclusions, but let me check with Bill and get back to you!

Id love to show you both the Idaho Star Garnet gems I've been cutting . Amazingly electric purples and bright stars. Have several cabs and a 100+ carat 'Nebula' specimen
We'd love to see them! Email us at info@gemstones.com!

Thanks Bill for being so enthusiastic! It's a pleasure to listen to you talk about your passion.
Phenomenal collection as always, Bill and Rebecca. Thanks for the huge dopamine dose.
I just got a kunzite specimen.... I'm so glad to know that I need to keep it in a dark place!
Wonderful. Beautiful collection.
stars are one of my favorites a customer at my crystal store gifted me a star ruby i almost cried lol
What a fantastic episode! I just started building my collection of gems with optical properties like Chatoyancy, color change, etc.
Bill has the coolest stuff!
Blown away by these stones!!! Asterism is probably my favourite form of gemstone phenomenon. I’ve got a few stunning Star Sapphires, and I’m definitely after adding more gemstone varieties to my collection.
Yaaaay i love this! 😊 Always learn so much from Rebecca 💎
Apatite was just a mohs scale 5 stone for me until last month...
Now, after watching a lot of videos in this channel, it's one of my favourite
Amazing collection!
I love phenomenal gemstones! This was a fantastic unboxing. I don’t have many loose stones but I do have some chatoyant peach moonstone and chrysoprase cabs.
I missed this beauty so much on this channel.❤
Great video. My husband and I love star sapphires and chose to make both our wedding rings from them. I also have a star ruby in my collection. I would love a star garnet someday.
I collect color change gems, but I think I should start collecting other gems that have optical effects. Btw, I find the music really unique.
Very thanks
I work and mine cordiorite/iolite, I have a few I have found like this cats eye but it's blue. It's fun to cut, works easy. I have some very unique peices and colors.
Cat's Eye and Star Emerald, and Cat's Eye and Star Aquamarine are EXTREMELY rare. Even the G.I.A. has rarely encountered them
thanking you
2:49 such a fascinating group; maxixe beryl is the one I hope to get someday💎
Your collection are very nice beautiful
We have a gigantic 13000 certified star sapphire glassy crystal with golden sheen and cat's eye effect in one stone
One of my fav episodes! P.S. I have a cats eye Diamond. Yup - there is such a thing believe it or not ;)
Ancient Megolithic Critter Rock Statues, would be a good venue to place those ginormous gems in their eyes 👀!
Still trying to cab one.
I have a chatoyant sodalite!!
I didn't even know cats eye and star aquamarine even existed!
Aquamarine cats eye and star also have myself
Sri lanka 🇱🇰 ♥️ ❤️
With respect to rare star stones, I have a few in my collection many people wouldn't have seen before...
The most notable in my collection would be a golden-honey coloured star apatite, it's an unusual stone as far as the asterism phenomena goes though as it displays diasterism but not epiasterism.
The six-rayed star only appears in transmitted light, and, in particular only when lit within a few degrees of the optic axis.
The stone also displays a typical cat's eye around the girdle which when lit from an angle between 45⁰-60⁰ from the front and oriented appropriately causes the cat's eye to reflect from a healed fracture within the stone and appear on the face as a well defined but somewhat wavy rainbow cat's eye with it's spectral colours being caused by constructive interference occuring within the healed fracture.
I have quite a few star zircons mostly with 4-rayed stars but some with 8 however, most of the 8-rayed stars have discontinuities along some of the legs.
There's also a 6-ray star rhodolite garnet I cut into a heart shape double-cab which displays two stars on the front when lit from an angle about 45⁰ above perpendicular when displayed right side up, the twin stars are due to the shape rather than resulting from any exciting internal features.
If you'd like to see any of them just point me towards an email address and I'll gladly send some pictures through to you.👍
Asterated heliodor would be pretty sweet.
Can you talk about hyallite opals only and unboxing~
Too many names my head is about to explode. 😂😮😊
by the gods look at em
What does Bill think of helical twists down the C axis of aquamarine crystal wands?
Hi I didnt see purple and I have one I found at a thrift store. It has a couple dings but the movement is there, it has the 5 pattern. What family of stone would that be and also can it be taken out and smoothed without losing the star? Thank you and if you need a purple I have one for ya, I think anyway.
I have green chalcedony in cats eye
Star sapphires mean a lot to me my dad brought home a good number of the after he was deployed
I have sapphire catseye stone above 35 cart
How long has he been collecting??? Fabulous collection ❤💎
I think he said this collection was over the course of about 20 years
I'm obsessed with asterism, even in collections of asterism with people obsessed with asterism the form of asterism known as diasterism is rarely known about, virtually no data videos photos. Unlike other forms of asterism diasterism is when the star effect is shown when light is shined from behind the gem projecting the star on the front. It can only be seen before cutting into a cabochon with a electron microscope. So it is found in stones that are cut commonly in cabochon like rose quartz. Yes, i own six examples of diasterism. None are for sale and have been offered extremely large sums to part with one. Corrected I had a stroke it effected my writing amongst other things but am ok but always put biasterism when it is correctly diasterism. Lol some subconscious thing. So I did correct all the b's into D's thank you @hybridgoth
*diasterism 😉
would you like to see a multiple star quartz?
@@hybridgoth your absolutely correct I had a stroke it affected my writing amongst other things but ok overall still have trouble with affected vs effected no matter how many times look it up and it is diasterism and I always subconsciously write it as biasterism now
@@hybridgoth why are you the only person that ever corrected me on this no matter how often I explained it or posted it? I posted photos of GIA certification with it spelled with a D as it should no one else ever pointed it out, and I know i incorrectly write it, the tattoo of a asterated heart cab gem on leg says "Diasterism". I prefer being corrected i wouldn't't ever have been offended. Is it just that they don't know about this gemstone phenomenon, or being too polite, I don't know? I would prefer every time I misspell it, someone would point it out. Thank you I mean it and honestly if someone doesn't point it out next time I will accidentally make it biasterism again instead of diasterism. My cognitive therapist told me I will keep making the exact same mistake like that but without someone pointing it out my brain will not catch it.
@@davidariamirroarkyoung I'm glad not to have caused offence, none was intended.
As far as asterism is concerned, i presume that most people will be unaware of the different types observed and distinctions between them, thus, I'm not overly surprised that no one had pointed it out prior.
As wonderful as star stones are it's definitely considered niche information.
Morganite catseye
Is asterism ever visible in uncut specimens? I would imagine its either impossible or exceedingly rare, but I do wonder if you could ever see some looking down the long axis of an uncut corundum crystal with some transparency...
I have not ever seen asterism in an uncut specimen but the gem world is a strange and beautiful place, so I wouldn’t rule it out.
Waterworn crystals may display asterism depending on how smoothed the crystal became as a result of the alluvial processes, conversely, even a relatively un-worn star stone will display a degree of silkiness when lit with a pinpoint light source, the star itself remaining undefined though.
Trapiche type stars are often visible in rough crystals with little to no wear if a termination is flat.
With either type of star, and, whether the crystal is waterworn or otherwise, the inclusions responsible for the generation of a star are often visible under magnification with appropriate lighting, subsequently identification of a star stone in the rough is often possible.
