I did really love this anime. As someone who fell in love with a close childhood friend, was eventually asked out by her when we were in 10th grade, dated her all through high school and college (despite going to different colleges 3 hours apart), married her, and recently celebrated our 23rd wedding anniversary, I could relate to much of the extremely intense feelings that the characters displayed in this anime.
Miyamura's general feelings of inadequacy really hit home for me, because my wife-then-girlfriend is significantly more attractive than I am, has a sweet-as-honey personality that means that everyone liked her, is that perfect combination of intelligent and hard-working, had wealthy parents, and was well above-average successful in pretty much all her endeavors; I, on the other hand, was a short, skinny black kid attending a private school with precisely three other minorities, from a poor family (I was on scholarship to the school), pretty nerdy, and frequently the target of racism and bullying. I had a massive crush on her, but didn't feel worthy of her and was IMMENSELY shocked when she asked me out.
I don't think I can put into words how intense our relationship was. We were pretty much always around each other, both at and away from school, much like Hori and Miyamura were. We quickly became physically intimate, much like Hori and Miyamura (there's one scene where they are explicitly shown to be intimate, but it's implied that they were having a LOT of sex off-screen). I thoughtlessly made her jealous once by having a close friendship with a girl who obviously liked me, I got angry when other boys at school would encourage her to break up with me and date them instead, we stressed out about our future together, etc.
The manga for Horimiya is absolutely worth reading. It's clear that we aren't going to get a second season of the anime, and they blew past a LOT of the best chapters.
Worth mentioning: the intensity of youth certainly fades into the background of day-to-day life as you get older, but my wife and I recently faced a terrifying situation in that she was diagnosed with cancer (we are only 45 years old, too!) and the terror and uncertainty brought back a lot of that fire that we had in our youth. Nothing like staring down the barrel of your own mortality to remind you of what is important, I guess. We are EXTREMELY confident that she's going to be fine (we caught it early), but man... we have been acting like two lovestruck teenagers around each other recently.

I only watched this recently, kind of just in between seasonal shows was the idea.. but it captured me so quickly and I ended up finishing it in a few days.. it is such a good show, and for me a 10/10
Little dose of wholesome is good
At first i was very hesitant to watch this anime but when i started this oh boy i was completely hooked i finished this entire anime in only 1 day now i don't really watch that much anime but this one just had some sort of a magnet to it really wish i could watch this anime first time again
that's how I felt about 86 and now it's my favorite all-time show xD

horimiya is honestly my favorite romance anime /manga ever the relation in it not just between hori and miyamura but just the friendships in general in the show are great and the dumb stuff they do is somthing my friend group would do (besides the romance stuff lol)
also a small correction hori isn't a member of student council they just dumb most of their work on her
only complaint i have with the anime is that they cut out the last 60 chapters

horimiya was one of the only few romance anime which felt close to reality but yet so fictional
really loved watching it and hope i can relate to it someday
The beautiful thing is sometimes you wish you didn't relate to it in some aspects. It's just really good at hitting close to home
