      Hi David, yes you do. I am going to make a video in the future showing you how to do that. Briefly: buy the OBDLink EX cable, and then install ForScan. Grab the free 2-month extended license for Forscan; as you need one of the extended features. In Forscan, select the feature to delete all existing keys, and add new ones. Note that you need two new keys. It doesn't work if you only have one. Also note that you will need to change the lock in the driver's door.
      Give me another month to get a new BL to wreck and I will make a video demonstrating all that.

    • @PaulinPerth
      @PaulinPerth  Před rokem

      @@davidf1791 I think you can still rescue the situation. Take the key you have to a locksmith, and ask for a new key cut. Make sure they put it in a fob with a transponder (some blanks come without a transponder, but you definitely need one). As long as you end up with a key that is physically cut to look like the first one, and has a transponder chip in it, then you can go ahead with my instructions.
      FYI I have a new wreck coming to my property tomorrow. I can fast track the video to demonstrate all this if you like.

    Hi Paul... thanks for sharing cool informative videos.... im from New Zealand and sadly, 2005 Mazda Demio DY3W, is a hot car to be stolen easily. So now i have to change the ignition switch and barrel. The barrel needs to be changed because the guy broke some part of it along with the switch.
    I have reached all the way till the barrel but now it has those two MI6 level faceless screws which i don't know how to unscrew. Plus they are sunked in, making me unable to reach them with fingures. I can share picture but i dont think i can here?
    Im tight on budget so need to do myself.
    Kindly advice.

      You can either use a dremmel drill to cut a slot on the bolt head and turn it with a screwdrivers, or drill a hole on the edge of the bolt, and use a pin-punch and hammer to turn the bolt until you can just turn it by hand.

    From USA here, great video. Question, how I switch a Mazda 3 with key FOB to a mazda3 that doesn’t have a key fob. Your instructions help me to switch the key lock, how about the controller module that can set alarm and door locks on and off? Basically I bought a donor car that has the key fob to move parts to a receiver car that does not have power door locks and key fob

    • @PaulinPerth
      @PaulinPerth  Před rokem

      I'm about a week away from doing this video.
      Essentially, the standard Mazda key fob has three elements - each of which uses a different technology.
      The key blade is mechanical. It has the right shape to make the pins in the barrel line up so the barrel can spin.
      The part of the fob closest to the blade is the transponder. This is a near-field activated chip. It has a range of about 30mm (I'm trying to encourage you Americans off the metric system, so I'm not going to tell you how many inches that is, but it is small).
      The part of the fob furthest from the blade is the remote locking system. It works on infrared. It has a range of about 10 metres.
      All three elements are 'programmed' differently, because they all use a different underlying technologies.
      The key blade needs to be mechanically cut to the right shape.
      The transponder needs to have its unique code inserted into the database of the Body Control Module (BCM) with a program like Forscan.
      The remote locking system needs to be programmed into the BCM with a sequence of turning the key off and on, and opening and closing the driver's door. This video here shows you how: czcams.com/video/B0UKyhN3E48/video.html
      Hopefully that answers your question.
      I'll make the video as soon as one of my friends is available to hold the camera. This is not a video I can make holding it myself.
      All the best, Paul in Perth.

    Hello Paul from the Netherlands! and thank you so much for posting your video. My older Mazda 3 had a faulty steering lock. However, the lock cylinder (you call it a lock barrel?) was at fault. So I went to the junkyard and got myself another lock assy al together, with the key that belongs to it. Installation was no problem at all - again your video proved gold! - but when I now tried to start there's no raction but a red flickering key symbol on the dash. Do you know how to solve this problem? I will be very glad with any help. Thanks, Louis

    • @PaulinPerth
      @PaulinPerth  Před rokem

      Hello Louis,
      the red flashing light is the indicator that the transponder in the key you are using is not registered in the Body Control Module (BCM).
      What you need to do is use ForScan to register the transponders in the BCM.
      I demonstrate it in this video: czcams.com/video/9x68jAUNbGE/video.html.
      Paul in Perth.
