"Acetone-The comment generator" I had to laugh at that! Years ago, the shop owner bought this tiny bottle of "Rubber rejuvenator" that cost about $17. It was essentially nail polish remover (acetone). A big jug of acetone is about $15. Another great video as always!

the 1 st time this was used it powered off and there is a tape and dvd in but never powered on again no light nothing on it put it back in the original box and been in there for years
it this something that could be sent too you for repair

Thank you so much for making these videos, I managed to mostly fix one of these that I picked up from Goodwill because of them. Whenever I put a tape in the whole thing would shut off and not even play the tape or eject it. I watched some of your videos on this particular model and cleaned up the mode selector switch like you did, and it now takes in tapes and plays them. However, there is no audio, and it struggles with fast forwarding and rewinding, often getting stuck, then shutting off and keeping the tape hostage, in which case I have to manually turn the motor that ejects the tape. The fast forwarding and rewinding issue is probably a worn drive belt, but I haven't been able to find any parts for this model besides buying a whole new one (cheapest I could find on ebay was $30; I paid $15 at Goodwill for this one), and I haven't bothered checking voltages/ohms/whatever because I know nothing about that stuff. Same for soldering to replace the capacitors. It didn't come with a remote so I'm gonna get one off ebay and see if i can fix the audio in some menu and just deal with the FF and RW issue. Otherwise I'll have to get a multimeter and learn how to solder, and I'm not sure if I'm willing to do that much just for a cheap VCR. Thank you for making these videos nonetheless.
Thanks for the video helped my half way fix my DV220MW9. I takes my tape and auto plays and slow rewinds and forwards but won’t fast rewind and fast forward. I cleaned and lubes the mode switch and that’s about it besides cleaning the loading belt. Any help is appreciated.
When I put it in fast rewind or fast forward it sounds like it’s try but does nothing and powers down.
I recently landed on your channel and find it of high quality. You take time to clearly explain the why of what you are doing. Thank you very much for that, I learn a lot here. One question: I noted that you clean the mode switch with a metal brush. But aren't the mode switch contacts covered with some corrosion-preventing metal film (eg nickel), which would get damaged by the brush ? Perhaps you compensate for that with the dielectric grease.
The contacts are silver plated, and working on VCR's for 40 years I have never got down to the actual copper using this method.
I have this same VCR and the tape guides don't go up and down and seem to be stripped? I don't see anywhere inside where it would receive the threads of the guides...
Question: for 100uF and lower surface mount capacitors, would it be better to use ceramic capacitors instead of bent over electrolytics? Why or why not?
Already on the first listen the fan sounded (clacking noise) like it was somewhat out of balance.
PLEASE HELP. Magnavox ZV427MG9. Everything works buy does not slow down in rewind. Rewinds, stops, power off. Other than that it works.
i found your video through google and was wondering if you might be able to help me with a small issue, i recently picked up a mitsubishi hs-u445 that will not take in tapes are not fully rewound first, if the tape is at the start it will work fine but if its at the end it wont, any ideas i can try?
is there a fix for high pitch noise when recording vhs to dvd you've encountered? the noise when playback
Typically it is a high ESR capacitor in the audio circuit that caused a high pitched whine recorded onto the tape.
Followed your video to work on my ZV427MG9. Originally the vcr portion stopped after attempting to load a tape and the DVD part played and recorded. After cleaning the mode switch, the VCR worked but the DVD no longer spun the disk.
There's also a loud clicking noise when I eject a tape. I raised the door when I put the face plate on, so I don't know why the clicking noise comes from behind and the right side of the door.
Any idea what I did wrong?
Does it eject the tape normally with the front panel removed? Also check that none of the pins on the 2 ribbon cables from the chassis to the DVD do not have any missed or bent pins.
@@norcal715 A tape does eject normally and the clicking sound continues until I push the right side of the tape mechanism, whether the front panel is on or removed. I substituted another DVD drive (I bought a second ZV427MG for parts) and that dvd drive worked normally in the old ZV.
Where do you get belts? The ebay seller has belts that are half the thickness of the original.
The worst DVD/VCR combo dubbing machines ever made! Best are JVC and Panasonic. I've got a Magnavox 427 like this one and still can't get anyone to fix it.
i have one where the tape will not seat itself properly only about half way .
Make sure the door on the cassette is fully opening. It should move freely after the tape "tries" to set down
