    I have carried a CZ 75 B just like the one in your video. I carry it for a double-action first shot, and the way that I de-cock it is to rest the heel of my weak hand on the top of the slide in front of the ejection port. Then I pinch to rowel hammer between my index finger and thumb of the week hand and, with the pistol pointed in a safe direction, I take the weight off of the sear, pull the trigger, and slowly lower the hammer just enough to clear the sear. Then lower the hammer down until it rests on the half-cock notch. Piece of cake.]
    Of course you need to practice this, but this is what I find is the most secure way of de-cocking the traditional CZ 75 B.
    Some people de-cock by using the weak hand in a similar manner as above, but do it in a sort of slingshot manner. This doesn't feel as secure to me as my preferred method because the two hands are sort of moving independently of each other with nothing between them to provide stability.
    I used to use the "cowboy" method of just using the strong hand thumb to wrap over the top of the hammer, pull the trigger, then lower the hammer until the tip of the thumb contacts the rear of the slide.
    But I have come to like the method as outlined in the first paragraph above.

    The SP01 Shadows have really become my go-to's for competition. You can tune the trigger really nicely, you have a strong aftermarket and an all-steel pistol that make them very gentle shooters. They're very popular I'm competition especially overseas, but growing very fast here in the US. I never would have thought years ago that I'd be so into these pistols as I am now as they are not what I would consider ideal CCW options, but organized competition has really brought them into the light.

    CZ 75's are the easiest pistols to shoot well IMO. The groups I shoot with my SP-01 tactica(40.5oz w/full length accessory rail) at 25 yards look like the groups I shoot at 15 yards with other pistols. I'm just an "average" shooter and wouldn't think any "expert" would see this kind of improvement on a target but I will try to get every new/1st timer i take out behind a 75 in order to set them up for success. I would take the weight if I was a police officer or something for the increase in personnel accuracy but not if I had to hump a 120lb pack for miles.
    Maybe a slight exaggeration on the 15/25 yard thing but not by much as my CZ makes me look good at the range!

    Nice video. I have a pre-B, and it & my Hi-Power are the two most comfortable pistols I own! To my eye, there is a good bit of the HP in the CZ75's concept. My pistol, though, has a cheap black enamel finish which has flaked off in spots. Cerakote is in its future.
    As for the SA/DA action, I believe the DA was for 'second-strike' capability. Chamber-empty carry and single-action shooting was the norm, so the DA was there to allow another hit at a non-fired cartridge. Routinely lowering the hammer as you showed would (IMO) be too hazardous for routine use.

    The CZ75B is a timeless classics, and a beautiful gun. I understand the advantages of the modern designs. The CZP07 is more conducive to carry, and the P09 is lighter and has 19 rounds flush, and so on. I still love the stainless and black poly coat CZ75B’s. I really enjoy your videos and I certainly appreciate your expertise. However - and this is based on 60+ years of firearms experiences, two decades of active duty military service, and a father who was an FBI SA and firearms instructor (and who taught me a LOT) - I take minor exception to your statements that imply a decocker is required for safe and efficient operation of traditional DA/SA autoloaders. I own an H&K USP Tactical (in .45 ACP), a Sig P-220, a Sig P-226 (in .357 Sig and .40 S&W), and a CZ-75B and a CZ P-07. The CZ is the only of these traditional DA/SA semiautomatics without a decocker . . . and it has made absolutely NO difference in its use or safety.
    Good grief, how many of us have shot thousands upon thousands of rounds from Smith, Ruger and other double action revolvers . . . and have frequently and safely lowered the hammer onto a loaded chamber? Traditional DA/SA autoloaders are just as easy to manually decock safely - especially if a simply, proven procedure is meticulously followed:
    1. Strong hand thumb controlling the hammer
    2. Weak hand finger inserted between the hammer and the frame
    3. Strong hand index finger (gently and smoothly) depresses the trigger and then immediately releases it
    4. Gradually lowering the hammer to a safe position
    Obviously, this process takes a hell of a lot longer to describe than it does to perform . . . AND it works successfully and safely. There is a redundant safety with the weak hand finger (or thumb) positioned to preclude the hammer moving forward quickly, if the strong hand thumb should slip - unlikely, but possible - from the knurled hammer.
    Incidentally, I believe the CZ 75-B is an absolutely superb service-sized firearm!

    • @NoQuestions4sked
      @NoQuestions4sked Před 3 lety +1

      I strongly agree. The safety only models are more versatile for that reason because you can carry C&L or drop down to half cock safely as described. The decocker models of the CZ 75, imo, are redundant and limiting because they lower the hammer to the half cock not all the way down. The point of a decocker is to safely bring the hammer all the way down like on a Walther or Beretta.

    • @joethebourbonman
      @joethebourbonman Před 3 lety

      I think the point is most militaries are too risk averse to accept lowering the hammer on a loaded round as standard practice.

      You may be correct, I spent two decades on active duty, retiring as a senior officer, and I certainly observed a pervasive (and, imho, a somewhat over-emphasized) concern regarding training accidents. I certainly do NOT suggest that we should risk our youngsters’ well-being cavalierly; however, a high-level of self-discipline and training can easily obviate such issues. The clear irony is we train, organize, equip and lead individuals to operate inherently dangerous equipment under combatant conditions, yet we may reduce weapons systems’ effectiveness to preclude very unlikely safety issues. Our forbearers rode cavalry horses into battle and carried single action revolvers (no safeties and often six live rounds chambered); however, their training and self-discipline generally overcame such intrinsic design issues.

    Retired Infantryman here with 30 yrs RA service. I am comfortable with an external safety. On 1911….Hammer down on empty chamber ...or locked and cocked. (But there are five safeties on 1911.) I want a carry pistol. CZ Compact with manual requires locked and cocked …or on an empty chamber.... same as 1911 (but does not have as many safeties). I am told not safe to carry CZ with manual safety on quarter cock. I have no experience with de-cockers. Would appreciate your opinion this subject. It is very hard to figure out with that little info. You would need to verify the ejector is in working order, and if the extractor is likewise undamaged. If both are fine try another ammo, as you may have just gotten a bad lot of the orriginal. Also, classic czs are like 1911s and ar15s. They must be lubricated for proper function, so make sure that is done right too.
