  • Ableton certified trainer Lenny Kiser took the stage at Pyramind and built a track from scratch using the Push 2. In this multi-part video recap, Lenny walks you through multiple techniques you can use to produce with the Push and keep your music fresh with variation.
    Part 1: • Producing House Music ...
Lenny loads a drum rack from the Push and demonstrates how to sequence drums using the pad grid. He sequences a kick drum with a snare, and walks through the process of layering snares to create variation. He also demonstrates how to add effects to individual drums and fine-tune those effects right from the Push.
    Part 2: • Producing House Music ...
Lenny adds hi-hats to his track. He goes over adjusting note timing and velocities of individual drums from the Push. He also adds extra snares to keep the arrangement interesting.
    Part 3: • Producing House Music ...
Lenny show us how he creates basslines using toms. He covers copying drum sounds to new pads on the Push, and transposing samples. He also demonstrates how to use Note Mode.
    Part 4: • Producing House Music ...
Lenny demonstrates how to use the melodic step sequencer. He also covers adding return effects and automation to his track from the Push.
    Part 5: • Producing House Music ...
Lenny adds a gritty bass sound to his track and demonstrates per step automation. Last but not least, he goes over the arrangement process and arranges the track using the Push.

Anybody with a new push should watch all 5 of these. Lenny's strange and awesome in just the right way, and covers a lot of practical ground.

did you ever figure out how to get the right display because I'm in the same boat. I'm trying to turn the volume down on my snare pad but I can't get that option.

Yea after messing around with it for ages I found the right options, 'm guessing Ableton did a firmware update that changed the layout since this tutorial. So to turn down the 'gain' on the snare make sure your in the 'device' mode on the 4 buttons on the right hand side, then at the top of the screen there should be the option for 'simpler', select that using the button above it, then on the top right hand side of the screen is the 'mode', use the above scroll wheel to change it to 'one-shot' if its not already on that. Once you've done that you should see the 'gain' option next to the 'mode' option. using the scroll wheel above that will let you turn the volume up and down.

Also to get the option to nudge inputted notes, select clip on the 4 buttons , then hold the pads down and the nudge option will appear at the top right of the screen

Thanks for the replies Mike. I just got my push last week so I'm still very inexperienced with it. But you saved me a lot of headaches.

I think the headaches never end lol, but you learn something new every time you use the Push and it feels equally rewarding!

This is why most music sucks now a days too much going into the technology not the music some people spend one hour tuning the kick drum or just twisting the knobs smh
