- Customer states Grinding Noise when starting vehicle. Starter removal on a Lexus LS430 only to find out starter and flex plate teeth were more worn than a crackheads teeth. Is this the worst starter location on a vehicle, or is there worse? let me know in the comments below. thanks for watching

The valley location of the UZ motor is a total breeze to change and far from the worst. Had plenty of practise removing the upper and lower manifold - the ACIS VSV sitting in the valley is a common fault on these too. First time years ago was maybe 4 hours turn around time and now down to 1-2 hours start to finish after a few tries figuring out what works best.
Anyway - these UZ series engines were replaced by the UR series engine (i.e. LS460) and the starter motor is not in the valley any longer and a total prick to replace - RHS exhaust manifold and engine mount to be removed first for access and all from under the car. Take the UZ motor over the later UR engine anyday for doing this job.
You already know! The ISF is even tighter. I would remove the subframe for more access! But even those with repetition become easier over time! Thanks for watching!
I did my starter without taking out coolant bridge, actually wasn't too bad, if you get a long enough ratchet and a deep well socket you just use your finger to place it ontop of the bolt head its a breeze. Took me 4-5 hours and that was including dropping the ratchet ontop of the transmission and looking for it for a little over an hour.
Thats whats up! I like to change them as a Preventative maintenance since im already there
That was labor intensive, and looked like an all day project! Makes me think twice before getting a Lexus with a V8. Thanks for sharing!
Don't worry about how hard to replace the starter. I owned numerous Lexuses, 2012 IS250, 2001 and 2006 GS300, 2015 LS460 and now 2006 SC430 and never experience replacing or repairing starter. Starter actually will last forever but of course it will eventually will break in a certain period of time but definitely will last if not for decades or it might last the lifetime of the car, just like my 2001 GS300 that already have 357,000 miles on it but starter still in good condition. As you can see in the video, starter was removed not because the wear and tear of the starter but it broke because of the driver's error. The gears were damaged because the engine already running and someone attempted to restart it again, what do you think will happen to the starter of course gears will break and not only starter's gears but also the fly wheel's gears will break as well.
Yeah, and mine was done once at 80k, and needed to be replaced again at 130k. Tbh wasn't too bad, the UR engines are way worse having to remove the exhaust manifold to get that starter out. Ntm the valley leaks like crazy on those and the direct injectors crack, and to fix that leak you need to pull the whole front timing cover due to one pipe. Definitely prefer the UZ's out of most V engines from Toyota, the inline Toyota engines are best for serviceability tho.
Great video, I actually done a couple of these.
Finally found the video to help me with replacing the knock sensors on my ls430, thank youuuu
Definitely will help as a reference for a knock sensor replacement. All i can add is a suggestion to replace the knock sensor sub-harness/ or connectors for the knock sensors while you are there.
Do you take cars in for repairs as well or only specific cars? Love your videos and interested in getting a quote on replacing the front right and left control arm bushings and ball joints on a 2006 Lexus rx 400h🙏🏼
Email for more information.
I did it 3 times it’s not as bad as u think just have to have the right tools
You already know!
What kind of tools are we talking about?
I've seen a picture of a starter inside the transmission housing. Not sure what vehicle it was, but that's gotta be harder than under the intake.
I've seen that picture. That's unfortunate when it comes to replacement.
Its on the lexus sc400’s
Hi Dear, Please show me about Lexus Is 250 2009 information thanks 🙏
ahh man I just bought an sc430 :P
Great car!
No manches con razón puso esa música de terror .y asta el habla sele fue al maestro
😂
I dont suppose you can link the tool you used for the right side 14mm starter motor bolt? My 14mm ratchet is too thick to go over the head
I use a ratcheting 14mm wrench with a swivel end. Im sure there are other versions but this is the one i use. This is the link www.amazon.com/Mountain-MTNRM1214-Ratcheting-Double-12x14mm/dp/B07CZS62LP/ref=asc_df_B07CZS62LP/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=693128203613&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=10125508955544214073&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9031082&hvtargid=pla-568083999246&psc=1&mcid=d92b21511aba373dbcde09cac16b161a&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwi_exBhA8EiwA_kU1MqZS5aAzETxPqoUKI29r5Ptqw89NMxfVXpTjjjxYZDsLOLZNFISKURoCntgQAvD_BwE
How do u depresseoir the fuel systym??

What starter did you replace it with? I see it says Toyota. About to do this job myself and only see reman densos from Lexus parts sellers online
Hi I used a Lexus denso reman purchased from the dealership. May be the same part number as Toyota. I would avoid any aftermarket starters.
@@harborareatech310 do you think there’s a difference between the rock auto denso reman and the one from the dealer? Denso 280-0329 on rock auto, Amazon, etc
@bobberben I'm not too sure, but it looks the same to me!
@@harborareatech310yeah I was hoping lol debating if I want to swap the knock sensors out while I’m in there now lol
@bobberben if it were my own vehicle, I would replace that with the connectors for the starter connector and for the knock senors
Friend of mine Had One,Labor was Almost Twice the Price of Part.Lol
I have a Lexus LS 400 and this was a pain in the ass to get to, it makes no sense why thee knock sensor was placed there.
Oh yeah, those could be a pain, especially if everything is brittle.
@@harborareatech310 I was working on this past week and almost every hose was brittle
Man this is amazing work. Everyone said the starter to these cars are hard. Man that is easy just being careful is key..wonderful knowledge my guy🫡✊🏽
Thanks man! I agree with you on that!
starter on a grand cherokee or jeep wrangler is way worse
Is that so?
I wish the lexus gs350 3.5L v6 were that simple 😅
Those are more simple
@@harborareatech310 how is that when you got too drop the chasis and the control arm and motor mount just to get too it
@bobbyserchion loosen up the motor and trans mount and lift the engine or transmission to sneak it out
@@harborareatech310 thanks I didn't think about doing that 😅
Not exactly a weekend project considering Lexus placed it in the middle of the engine.
If it is just a starter you're doing and you have your parts ready, it is definitely doable as a weekend job
It’s only rated as a 4.6 hour job took me 3.5 and I’ve never done one before
This is way to much for a starter 😂😂😂
I agree!
@harborareatech310 I just found a 430 in great condition with 76k miles but the starter is bad
@jacksonduval4995 That wassup just fix that starter and do the maintenance, and you'll have yourself a vehicle that would last a long time.
@harborareatech310 I might go get it tomorrow. He willing to let it go for $1300. I really just need another car because I'm getting all this stuff done to my 240sx and I won't have it for atleast 3 weeks
Crap mine is doing the same thing with the grinding 😅
You might be able to get away by just doing the starter if you catch it early.
My friend! The value of this video is priceless! Great notes, hilarious parts in towards the ending, job done right! Looks like that $1500 job ended up turning into possibly a $5000ish job all because of the teeth! I hope you got paid what you deserved! Most I can do is like, subscribe, and comment. So that’s exactly what I did!
Thank you for this! It’s 100% a wallet saver and confidence checker haha! 🤙🏽
Yeah, it was a bad double whammy. Thanks for the support. i appreciate it!
Praise the Lord Jesus for this Christian making good videos.
What would the Lexus dealership charge for this job?
The book calls for 5-6 hrs of labor. So im guessing whatever the dealers hourly rate is plus parts.
I’m gonna say a huge F*ck you to Toyota for making this the way they did. Absolutely ridiculous and no damn reason it should cost me 2800 dollars for a starter replacement because of the labor involved. 🤦♂️ ridiculous
This is way out of my league! I will probably do more damage to my car. Its just going to sit until I have the money to put it in the shop! Thanx anyways.
That's respectable!
I just called lexus and they wanted 2K lol
Nissan Titan looks just as bad
Same concept
Don’t ever make another video again
Thanks for watching
