    I bought a Shield 9mm based on your reviews. Just had features I wanted which the Glock 43 didn't have and I'm a Glock guy. A customer of mine, 75 years of age, just got the 380 EZ. He has arthritis now. I'm only 53 and my arthritis is worse than his. I'm not having problems with my Shield but in a couple of years, who knows. Racking the slide isn't hard on my Shield, but does hurt some. Since I'm a 38/9mm minimum for defense type, this may be an option if my hands and fingers get worse.

      Same here. I joke that my shield came with the 5 round and 6 round magazines. I'm not weak for a 65 year old, but those mags were tough to load. The slide was not a big problem but it was very stiff. Thankfully with use it has lightened up a bit. Sounds like an EZ will be my next purchase. Seems perfect for my wife, or me in the years to come. LOL.

      One more just went into this citizens hands...I hope I never ever have to use this on another human being or any living thing frankly. It's a very nice piece of engineering and the glocks I used at the shooting range recently (19 & 17 - .22 and 9mm respectively) were just NASTY to pull the slides on. Wife loved everything about the glocks except the pulling on the slide. This is a thing of beauty for ease of use. And why should it be hard if you are in true fear mode---fight or flight---the brain shuts down to pure safely and many fine motor skills are highly reduced. Must keep it simple if you plan for honest life or death self defense. I just talked myself into a revolver again, LOL.

      @@deeshelton7010 personally I have not shot the EZ .380. I can tell younthe recoil on the EZ 9mm is less than other 9mm's I own, however still a quite more than .22's that I have shot. I would suggest heading to your local gun store that has a range and see if you can shoot both prior to purchasing. If you don't have anywhere local where you can shoot before buying, I would suggest the .380 as it will have less recoil. I am by no means a gun expert, so please take my comments for what they're worth (my opinion only). Best of luck to you!

    I like my M&P 9 EZ M2.0 with the thumb safety. It is extremely safe for concealed carry. One thing I learned as a paramedic of 40 years is that having several safeties for concealed carry is always good. I have treated too many folks who were concealed carrying and had a trigger safety only and ended up shooting themselves. Some of those were serious injuries and required multiple surgeries. To me, safe is always a priority when carrying a gun. I also like the compactness of the firearm. It is very easy to carry in a IWB holster and is difficult to see even with a thin shirt. I used to carry a Glock 19 in a double retention holster but just got too nervous with the one trigger safety. I have treated 9 cops for accidental discharge of a Glock. So yea, safety with concealed carry is very important to me and the M&P 9 EZ M2.0 fits that criteria.

    • @theparalexview785
      @theparalexview785 Před 2 lety +3

      Same reason I'm considering the EZ, from extra safety margin through familiarity. I'm old school, started with the 1911-A1, and have mostly owned single action hammer fired semi-autos - Browning Hi-Power, Star PD and Super B, etc.
      Wiping the thumb safety after the draw is muscle memory now. Grip safeties never caused any problems.
      But I'm not sure I'd adapt as well to a striker fired pistol with only a trigger safety. I'd probably consider a 1980s-90s DA/SA pistol like the S&W 469 I used to have, rather than any striker fired pistol. And I liked the Benelli B76, other than the steep grip angle and magazines limiting it to hardball ammo - it wouldn't reliably feed any hollow points or even truncated cone rounds.

    • @cliffclavin2503
      @cliffclavin2503 Před 2 lety +1

      @@theparalexview785 I am not a fan of the DA/SA since the trigger pull varies from the first pull of the trigger to the second. I have a SW 915 and while I like the gun (as old as it is) the second pull requires a lot less pressure.

    • @theparalexview785
      @theparalexview785 Před 2 lety +2

      @@cliffclavin2503 , yup, it's tricky transitioning from DA first pull to SA. But I shoot revolvers a lot and my primary carry is a Ruger SP101 DA only spurless hammer snubby.
      I've hated some DA/SA pistols and sold or traded them. The Beretta 92 was the worst for my hands. Odd because i liked the Bobcat 21A and Browning BDA 380 version of the Beretta .380 design.
      And I didn't dislike the Walther PPK, although I traded that too.
      The S&W 469 wasn't bad, nor was the Star Model 30.
      My favorite was the Benelli B76. It was the easy action slide before the S&W M&P9 Shield EZ. The unique beech lock mechanism enabled a lighter slide and spring, yet could still handle very hot loads that would be dangerous in other pistols.
      The DA first pull wasn't bad at all. And it could be safely carried cocked and locked. Unfortunately it wasn't reliable with anything other than 115-130 gr jacked hardball. If they ever reintroduce a modified B76 that handles hollow points, preferably with a lighter frame and more rust resistant slide, I'll be in line to buy one. Especially if they offer an extended fixed barrel threaded for accessories.

      @aaronautry1981 Před 2 lety +2

      This! I'm a truck driver and concealed carry is a must. My first gun was a full size ria 1911 .45. Not really known for its concealment capabilities. Not even for my body size. And it's painful to carry iwb. But I do appreciate both the 1911 grip and trust safety as well as the s&w m&p ez 9 as well. For one, the trigger safety on both sides is nice, but it's easy to disengage. So when I'm climbing in, up, and down and reachng down or way up while loading cars or jumping or sitting, things can wiggle and accidentally squeeze certain things. So a grip safety is very handy and extra layer of safety. I'm glad that this tool is a great Segway for women transitioning into 9mm. But c'mon it's a nice comfortable and easy to conceal firearm. It's not gender biased. Many men and women of all shapes and sizes have different reasons for getting smaller compact pistols. I got mine for 429 at the rural king. I wish it had a thicker grip so it can hold more than 8 just like the m&p 2.0. If it weren't for the m&p 2.0 they had available at door to not have a grip safety I would've purchased it instead. Plus it holds I think up to 15 rds in the mag. But I really like the ez 9. I didn't get the ez 9 shield though. The only difference was the color on the shield and the sale price.

      Wife and I bought one. I like the ease of slide. Also like the grip saftey even though I thought it would be awkward at first. In looking at guns, I ignore the "female shooters" or "beginner gun" talk, just like I ignore the "beginner bike" talk when looking at motorcycles. People need to assess what the gun need is, then find a gun to fill the role. I feel like gun store owners start labelling things as female or beginner to make it easier to talk people into a more expensive purchase that starts to go beyond their intentions for the gun. Thats how some folks get talked into a 45 acp for self defense every day carry or a honda goldwing as their everyday commuter bike. Salesmen play on ego. This handgun lives up to its EZ name. My only gripe is I wish more of the recoil was lower / into the palm. Ive shot some glocks that have pinpoint accuracy bc the recoil was almost non existent. But this gun fits the bill for simple use, light weight, decent accuracy. And price isnt too bad. I dont consider it a starter gun, bc it fills the need we got it for, so no need to go bigger. Its a good handgun.

    I bought this the very day it was announced/released for my mother for Christmas. She is 57 with mild arthritis and had no issues racking the slide or firing it. This is her first semi-auto and I much prefer her to have 9 rounds of 9mm than 5 of .38. It fired flawlessly, and was a great shooter. My only gripe is the sensitive (to me) mag release. I've noticed it on many M&P's, so it's probably just my preference for a stiffer mag release and paddle styles. Other than that, it's a great gun and she loves it!

I still open up my own pickle jars, for instance. 😁 That said, I am looking for my first semi, and this looks like a winner so far. Very eager to get my hands on this after lockdown.

    You're in my top 2 of favorite reviewers on CZcams, and I look at everything. In fact, as soon as I watch your videos, you're immediately #1. I especially appreciate the amount of detail you give. Totally thorough reviews.
    As far as the EZ goes, I'm tempted to influence my wife in this direction (for carry) , but it's hard to overcome her revolver muscle memory as a result of her Dad giving her his 9 shot .22 revolver when she was around 8. We still have that beauty and it's incredibly accurate - just can't conceal carry it.
    I'm thinking about the S&W PD (340?) with the ultralight frame. I held one and almost flew out of my hand with its lightness. Need to research it.
    Sorry if I got too off topic - unemployed/COVID, makes me 'chatty' haha!

    Another tip I told my (new to guns) wife is that since the magazine has the LRHO feature, she can use that to her advantage when going to clean the gun or even just practice disassembly and reassembly. She tends to still have some coordination issues with racking the slide and locking it in so by using an empty magazine, she can rack the slide back and it locks in on its own. Then she can check to make sure it is unloaded, drop the magazine, and then finish taking the gun down. I don't see any issues with this, but perhaps I'm missing something so if that's the case please let me know. I do encourage her to continue to practice racking it back and locking it in on her own, but the empty mag method is so easy it helps her when she's around others when she doesn't want them to see her struggle. And I should also say that we tried one of these out at the range before buying it for her and it is an awesome gun. I own the shield 9 and 45 and love them both.

    GREAT GUN with great features. I tried four different ammos and had way too many hang ups in the magazine. I thought the rims were catching on the lips. I couldn't unload the mag with my thumb they were stuck so hard. I wrote the factory and returned the mags and they sent me two spanking new mags that were EXACTLY like the defective ones. I determined that that problem was actually that the mouth of the case was catching on the front of the mag. So rather than send them back to get more of the same, I sanded the fronts of the mags. I tested it today with different types of ammo and had zero ftfs. NOW it is really a great gun.

I don’t care about the idea that this weapon is for beginners, women, or weaklings. It just a fine quality handgun for anyone. All the features make it more than just a beginner pistol.

    What S&W needs to bring out is a Smith and Wesson M&P Shield Plus EZ 9 mm. Have the compactness and mag increase as the Shield Plus but have the easiness of the slide and loading of the mags in the EZ. If they came out with that, I would buy it in a heart beat. It seems that every review that I have seen on the 380 EZ states that it is excellent for those that are weak or impaired but not ideal for the seasoned shooter. I can easily rack any 380 or 9mm slide that I have come across, yet see no shame in using the 380 EZ myself. Same goes for higher recoiling rifles. I can shoot a larger caliber just fine, but have more fun shooting a lower recoiling firearm. Same goes for the quieter vs louder firearm. Even with hearing protection, I prefer the quieter ones. I see the 9mm EZ in my future, maybe not immediately as I am frugal and also because I recently purchased my second 380 EZ and would have purchased the third had the rebate also covered the performance center version. My older eyes can see the sights on the EZ's just fine whereas I cannot on many smaller pistols integrated sights. Overall a great design for ANYONE. Having said that I do prefer my 9mm 1911. Good job S&W. Waiting on the performance center 9mm to come out and have a rebate.

    I had the opportunity to fire a mag through a standard Shield EZ9 and I really liked it. One major concern that I had was the recoil would be too harsh due to the reduced weight recoil spring, but it was surprisingly pleasant to shoot. Only problem I ran into was a nose dive and failure to feed within 9 rounds.

      I have shot several 9 EZ pistols and my wife owns one. None have ever given me a single problem. They all fed everything I put through them, the slide release works perfectly with low effort, and the slide locks open when the mag is empty. I also own the 9mm 2.0 Compact and it has been flawless as well. I do not believe there is some inherent issue with S&W pistols, but I do believe that if your gun has issues Smith & Wesson will make it right.

    Great review, thanks! This is the first I've heard about the new 9mm EZ. I second the thanks to S&W for addressing this segment of the population and their needs. Right now, I can operate my regular Shield 9 2.0, but as an older female, the EZ 9 is something I may want in the future. (Will point out that the regular Shield 9's come from the factory with both the 7-round and the slightly extended 8-round magazines included in the box.). Right now my regular Shield 9 is my favorite gun to shoot, but I have to use an overhand grip on the top of the slide and push with the other hand to rack its slide, which took a lot of practice because I have weaker hands. I'm glad S&W made the 9mm EZ.

One thing many overlook is the magazine! it is not just the tabs but there is ALOT weaker spring than most 9s. a strong spring is needed to keep the next round below the top from moving when top is being chambered. well with a weak spring Smith and Wesson put an indentation at the top of the mag to keep the following round to the back of the mag so when it comes to the top to be chambered is in proper position! They did not miss a trick with these. I am actually excited to shoot it myself!

    Bought one a month ago, imo of all the pistols I looked at and played with this was the best for me. I also went with the slide safety, it’s not an obstacle, as you pull and bring it up the safety’s already off. Safety is important and unless your Wyatt Earp it’s on no consequence. The EZ slide is nice, I have arthritis.
