Ajax’s third shirt for the 2021/22 season was a homage to Bob Marley and his anthem that is sung before every game at the Johan Cruyff Arena.
The shirt features three little birds above the three Andreas crosses, just below the collar. UEFA have made them remove that part of the kit.
But why?
And why do Ajax have such a connection with Bob Marley?

UEFA just do not want anyone to have even the slightest bit of fun, unless it gives UEFA money
pride flag
Fact!
@@specter295 UEFA may be bad the Super League would be worse... a closed league system would destroy football at its roots
@@arahaitham123 thankfully they banned that, one of rare uefa bans which are useful
@@exgardevior stop buying into the propaganda . Super League is the solution !
So they can't allow just 3 little birds on a shirt to honour the Legend. But Uefa / FIFA are ok with Betting companies on the shirt I guess!
rather than the birds, it's more of banning everything that is not official identification of the club. If that was allowed, clubs will starting to put political slogans or something horrible there. Well they can move the birds to another part of the shirt, but that wasn't the case.
@@aidanjanemcintosh6919 this happens all the time, just not in European competition. The poppy is political but pretty much all British teams wear it in November. Celtic wear a famine memorial shirt once a year as well.
@@lewisbeattie2533 yeah, well, they can wear that... but not on those part of shirt...
Betting companies should not be represented in football. I love an acca on a weekend as much as anyone but they ruin the shirt and has put me off buying. My dad follows Leeds and won't buy the shirt because the sponsor ruins it. I have a friend who follows Burnley who says the same
That’s sponsorship. They specifically said that’s allowed.
UEFA Mafia as usual. The kit is awesome nevertheless.
You could say Ned-ertheless. I'll see myself out.
@@WillMiall Great, saves me from throwing you out haha.
Their away kit looks like atalanta
Like when they banned custom captain batches
The rules were already there.
Tifo always finds another interesting subject
Football is always interesting
They don’t write this
Just turn the three birds into a brand trademark then claim it as a sponsor
_ajax is now sponsored by twitter_
The point is you can't have sponsorship logos on that part of the shirt. If they had the birds on the front of the shirt across the stomach where the main sponsor is, everything would be sweet.
@@atsleepwalkingpace But why are you not able to have it on that part of the shirt in the first place?
@@Roberrt16 I think it's a) so the shirts of all the different teams look uniform in their placing of sponsors and b) don't have too much of the shirt taken up by sponsors like those ridiculous shirts Brazilian teams used to wear.
@atsleepwalkingpace 3 little birds arent a sponsor as unicef isnt sponsor of barca and some clubs have little embelm over the player name, stupid UEFA
Imagine banning these 3 birds, but then not pursuing punishment against the ESL clubs. Whack priorities, and I say that as a Liverpool fan.
It's all about the money
@@James-jl4jt No!!
"It's all about the Benjamins!!"
🤣👍
But what the esl clubs did wasn’t illegal how can you punish someone even thou it’s legal 🤔
ESL? Oh... you're probably 'Murican
@@James-jl4jt this would make sense if they let the birds stay and went after fining the ESL clubs. You make no sense.
UEFA with their priorities… they have to ban these but let things slide for the 3 remaining Super League clubs or City/PSG’s breach of FFP
I don't agree with the ban but it's got nothing to do with priorities...the UEFA employees who dealt with the Ajax shirt are probably completely unrelated to the UEFA employees who dealt with FFP.
Also do absolutely nothing about racism
They're actually appealing the courts decision to tell them to suspend their legal action against those clubs.
When psg broke ffp they got a fine and a permanent restriction on UCL squad size
Or the racism in their stadiums
I love hearing Three little birds during half-time, when it's typically played. I remember being in the stadium during a europa league game and supporters continuing to sing the song for literally 10 minutes after half-time.
got chills reading this just thinking about the atmosphere
Instead of pies at half time, do the punters go for space cakes and hash brownies?
bob marley liking celtic was news i did not realize i needed haha
It's just speculation that's never ever been confirmed.

UEFA just jealous cos they don’t got that drip 😂
😂😂😂😂😂🙌🏿🙌🏿
And you forget to mention: The song is always played as last song when Ajax reenter the field in half time. We keep on singing the song as long as possible.. Also Ajax wears this shirt almost every away game this season... We all love this shirt.
Irish club Bohemian FC actually had a kit playing tribute to bob Marley. He played his last open air gig at Dalymount park, the clubs stadium, and is immortalised on a mural outside the ground. The kit depicted a picture of bob Marley on the front. Later, it was pulled off the shelves because the photo was not liscenced or something.
Ajax third might be one of the greatest kits of all time.
It isn’t but it looks nice
@@sirius1ish It is
Irish side Bohemians did the same thing 3 years ago since his last outdoor concert was in their stadium in 1980, and they were unable to use the shirt too
Was going to mention this. Wasn't that a copyright problem?
We did use it it was our away kit. We just had to take the image of bob Marley off it due to copyright.
@Danny Tallmadge you stupid or what?
the kit gave me mad chills when it came out😩 what a cool effin club☺👏🔥
Coolest club in Europe man.
Dankjewel moh :)❤️
Terrible club.
League of Ireland team Bohemians tried to put a picture of Bob Marley on their away kit a few years back but the Marley family wouldn't allow his image on the kit so they changed it to a fist. Such a shame because the kit looked sick. Their sponsor was Mr Green too
That was a class jersey
@@GM-nc5fu Fact! Really regret not buying one. Even the one with the fist was amazing
On sale this season on their website price 70 euros. The issues were ironed out in the end.
@@AMRPK ah but there's no Mr green sponsor. I still might pick one up but that sponsor logo massively added to it. Des Kelly doesn't quite cut it
Racist chants get a measly fine and a "behind closed doors" game.
Tribute kit gets stamped out immediately for breaking rules
Family is being paid are they not? Its like when UFC were selling Bruce Lee T-shirts.
UEFA must be fun at parties.
yeah ..plenty of back handers and special hand-shakes.
Big up to all the Jamaica in the world 🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲 one love from Jamaica

I was very curious to learn what the connection between bob marley and Ajax was. Was a little disappointed that he hadn’t been a fan of Ajax during his life but it is fascinating to learn he was a huge fan of Celtic. He may have been following their fortunes during the season when Celtic won the European cup and just about every competition they were in. Tbh I never knew Marley was into football and had actually played as a midfielder and had dreams of playing professionally. What an interesting parallel universe that would be if he’d made his name as a footballer with reggae being a hobby/side project of his.
Im pretty sure the story of how he found out he was ill was that he was playing football and stubbed his toe, he noticed the bleeding wouldn't stop and went to hospital where he got diagnosed.
@@KayJayFusion oh that’s interesting I hadn’t heard that story before.
@@KayJayFusion he had actually stubbed the toe playing football in Battersea Park, London. I always remembered this fact visiting his house in Jamaica, being from battersea myself. Edit- it jus mentioned the park in the video lol
@@lloydymk2013 Oh was that it, knew it was something along those lines
There is also the fact that Amsterdam is famous for certain illegal substances being freely on sale in it's coffee shops, an illegal herb that Bob was also fond of partaking in. There's humour in the use of the song too ;)
Best Tifo video i have ever watched. Made me emotional and kept smiling
Great video, I'm a huge reggae and football fan,and I learnt a few new things about bob in this video. Great work again, tifo💚💛❤️
What I didn't know about this beforehand.. Thanks Tifo!
We need some more Tifo videos on physiological, psychological and business sides of football. That’s be class. Even another second channel related to things like this in football like tifo irl?
I think the reason why we adapted this song around 2008 is also due to the fact that Ajax was in a horrible decade. We were not champions since 2004, and would become champions again in 2011. The positiveness of the lyrics "every little thing is gonna be alright" stood by the fans and it gave us hope for the future. It feels amazing to sing this with 55.000 people.
It’s funny how UEFA act quickly about 3 birds on a shirt but do nothing about racism
Sad really 😔
Racism what's that
Im racist and this is black
Racism, and many other issues. Making a new format just to ruin the competition. UEFA is a joke.
You can't expect an organisation built without any P.O.C and without a significant number of P.O.C working for them to understand their struggles, particularly if it's now capitalist again.
Guys and gals. Ajax can still wear them in their domestic league or friendlies, but in the champions league, supercup, or any other European match Uefa sponsors.
I love how tifo posts video's on a fixed time; so I'm always ready for the notification 😜

THE BEST KIT THIS SEASON 🇯🇲 🔥
Bohemians FC , Dublin also had a BobMarley inspired change kit banned.
Crazy how an association that deals with football can hate fun so much
You see I'm disappointed too but the rule is important
This makes me want to buy one even more. #4 Edson Alvarez on the back🇲🇽😍
I love getting answers for questions I didn't ask for.
Great service as always.
Stupid ruling, the birds clearly do represent a team identification of Ajax, as portrayed by the link you describe. This is coming from a Feyenoord fan.
Yeah, I'm thinking what if Ajax simply made the song their official anthem, all they would need is permission from Bob Marley's estate, which given his sons' involvement probably won't be a problem, then the three birds would officially be a signifier for the club?
It still might not be enough. It has to be associated with the club. So perhaps in the next 10 years if they constantly use the tune and actually decide to use it like Liverpool does with “YNWA” song. There’s little they can do. People blaming UEFA for applying the law 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
With 'the law' you mean their own rules?
Uefa are afraid the Marley estate or some record label call up for their cut.
It is an incredible shirt, glad to have picked one up for the collection!
The problem them becames every one & there Grany has one & I for one have no intention of looking like a clone even though the shirt is an absolute belter ( Amazing one ).
Keep Safe.
I watch tifo for this dudes awesome voice.

Was wondering why there was a Bob Marley Ajax jersey, thanks for addressing it.
Rohan Marley ..... Pound for pound, the hardest hitting, bravest LB that I ever saw.
Big up from Jamaica 🇯🇲 thanks so much ,was really looking this explaination...so proud of this tribute to our legend nevertheless
UEFA won’t be able to generate money, so pricks banned it… Bloody uefa that was a next level design amazing kit…
nah they just didn't want to give the Marley estate or some record label their piece, if they should ask.
Bob Marley was half Jamaican, half Scouse, his father was from Liverpool. He famously wore a pair of Adidas football boots while singing in the video for Could You Be Loved which also featured lots of football playing.
Lowkey top 10 in my books this season
Wait I LOVED THIS ⚡️💙
Bob is my hero. I named my son Marley. Ima bout to go get one of those jerseys right now.
When I still went to the games I used to love when the whole stadium would sing that song
I found the comments from the Bob Marley estate to be patronising as a boys fan. We made a Bob Marley jersey several years ago given our extensive links with the man (him having played a famous gig in our stadium in the late 70s) and bohemians being the club with punk and reggae leanings. Yet we were sent a cease and desist letter and the estate were not at all interested in coming to an agreement but for a big international club I was it's "heart-warming"
Ajax did it in collaboration with the Marley family. You guys probably did it without asking, makes sense.
Was studying and saw a Tifo video and I had to stop
Same here rn
Same thing🤷♂️
Just ordered it
Bob Marley in my soul forever
Coventry City would have been impacted by this had they played in a Uefa competition - they used a Two Tone inspired shirt in tribute to Ska bands from the city, such as the Specials.
Their shirt had an image of the Ska Man character on the back, very similarly to the 3 little birds.
Interesting, maybe it would have been allowed though because The Specials actually were from Coventry so there actually was a connection with the club.
It’s such a unique and creative shirt. UEFA is a fun police.
Even the score line against Athens 👌👌👌
This shirt is iconic beautiful
It's such a nice kit, I'm getting one
Good luck with having to wait for it for several months though. Clearly Ajax's inventory management isn't up to Champions League standards yet...
Hands down one of the best kits this season
What a lovely story!
Only an awesome club like Ajax would do that, they also open up w Armin van Buuren.
As a person from Amsterdam, thank you
wow if only uefa could take the same stance on racism
U r white
Love that shirt.
That shirt😍😍
Was gonna comment how they stole it off Cardiff but you already explained it respect
Can't the birds be kept close to the badge or something - to make it club-related?
Some kits have ad hoc badges
Great Celtic bhoy Bob
Make a video about the state of the NWSL or just Paul Riley. Meg Linehan can help.
best ever football shirt design
The kit is 🔥
Shirt goes so hard. But hella expensive now in resale
I finally get the lyric he sang when he says “Three little birds. Pitch by my doorstep.” I think pitch by my doorstep was a reference to the park he used to play on in battersea when he needed a break from producing music. Love this vid btw!
“Three little birds sit by my doorstep, singing sweet songs.”
@@ashanigordon7930 No check the lyrics. Pitch by my doorstep is written as a new line.
Guys Bob did say Pitch but that’s a Jamaican corruption of the word Perch. He means “three little birds perched by my doorstep” but he says “three little birds pitched by my doorstep” For you non English speakers the word perch is used for whenever a bird lands / sits on something. Hope that helps
@@styltsknten5212 Don’t call it a “corruption” it’s better you say a dialect or just say English Creole. Please don’t call our language that🙏🏽
Thank you for having respect for our culture

Lovely thing to add to my shirt collection
The birds is like that little touch that makes it fire
I personally think the birds is the best but coz it looks so slick lol
i agree with the ruling
Best kit of the year
Still gone get the kit
Love the jersey
Look up bohs bob Marley shirt it was the original but because they’re not a big team it was completely banded
I'm a Liverpool fan and we have the 96 on the back as a tribute so whats the difference?
So much drip, man.
Coventry had a rude boy on the back of their shirt a few seasons back. That was perfectly aloud
Jamaican here and people need to let this man rest in peace
Bob and Amsterdam go back long before 2008. The city is full of bobs songs in the coffee shops
How can I order an Ajax 3 likkle birds shirt?
Bob was a brazil and pele fan. And a boys town ans Allan cole fan.
Am i the only one who noticed that the Locomotive Moscow away kit also looks like this?
not at all, Ajax's third kit has more details, but they got something in common - they're both fire
Been trying to buy this shirt for the last month, its nearly impossible to get, sold out everywhere
Can the World get any more surreal? Perhaps Ajax fans should start doing what City fans did during the Champions League music etc.
Bob. Marley love
