Doubtful. Dover is always Tory, like most of Kent (with the exception of Canterbury).

Why are people surprised that this right wing tory has found a home I Starmer's Labour Party? Starmer has moved the party to the right of John Major's Conservative Party.
'I texted my mum, told her she finally voted for a labour MP, she didnt like that' 🤣🤣🤣🤣
To all those in Dover who voted for Elphicke: this is what you get when you vote Tory.
Their predictable come back " it will be worse under Labour."
@@jackn4853so who would you vote?
Frankly, if Dover feel more betrayed by Elphicke than by the Tories, their priorities are utterly screwed.
That's not what any of them said
its more about labour just letting anyone into the party even when they clearly don't align with what they represent
Over 50% of Kent will stay on their knees at the next election, begging the Tories for more. Grim, angry, chav infested towns like Ashford, Maidstone and Folkestone are amongst the most rabid right wing towns in the country. Essex is even worse!
She's not been allowed in the party that. Her defection is largely symbolic. Isn't going to be allowed to stand as an MP in the general. She's going to go and become an advisor on housing issues to Angela Reyna.
well said 👏👏

Yep, that’s all well and good if you want to be a centrist. I’d rather have rejected her unless (only devils advocate on this part) there’s a cross party numbers game going on behind closed doors to force an election, but I don’t see how that’s possible
They’re not wrong (again) are they?
@jamesarnold7253a potato could do that lmao
@jamesarnold7253 The problem with this is that it's more the Tories self imploding than anything Labour is actually doing
A large part of what kept the Tories in power is that the Murdoch empire favours them over anyone even slightly left of centre, which is why Starmer can't commit to anything other than extremely modest spending increases and a slightly more humane immigration policy.
@jamesarnold7253 context and, in the case of Corbyn, interference.
There was a huge effort by the media to stifle and undermine a very large grassroots movement in support of Corbyn's Labour. By no means did everyone like JC but had the press and factions within the Labour party itself not done everything within their power to assassinate his character, it would be hard to say he wouldn't have put a dent in the Tories' control.
"I thought she was better than that" 🤣 what on earth lead you to believe that?
The Sun told them to vote Conservative. Dover did exactly that

It’s hilarious. The tories can’t even get the nutters to stick with them. Elphick is the core they’re whistling at. They’re toast.
Funny that he guy who said he'll be voting Tory was wearing a Trotsky cap .
As for Elphicke there's something hidden in her move to labour of which we are not being told as per usual .
Nothing hidden. She is an unprincipled chancer who is hoping to stay in a job by joining the winning team.
Starmer is an unprincipled chancer who would allow any ultra right winger to join the party if they might bring a few voters with him. Who next? Braverman? Farage? Laurence Fox?
Labour are accepting Tory voters too
So long as we win, get the torieout and hopefully get some form of proportional representation and a move to the left ✌
There will be no shift to the left in if Labour is so weak legged to let all the far rights in, they’ll just be the next tories.
If they don't get some of them they'd lose the election.
@@bereal6590 Labour will never give you PR. And you can see for yourself how likely a move to the left is when hard-right lunatics like Elphicke are welcome in the party but Diane Abbott and Jeremy Corbyn aren't.

Didn't realise France was a war zone
He perfectly displayed his lack of understanding of regugee situations with that statement. I understand that he has probably never met, or known a refugee, nor been near an area from which refugees are fleeing, but this indicates the media's failure to educate the public.
France isn't a war zone
Just no thought process these days, people see a headline and thats their mind made up sigh.
People in Dover speaking real shit.
And in an irritating accent.
Confused. What is her angle? Why is she even bothering? She is not standing in the election?
What is in it for Labour? A passing bit of publicity, but the lasting damage created by the perception of such a right wing Tory joining Labour! It makes no sense.
I hope the Greens, Lib Dems, SNP, PC and independents all have a good general election.
If Labour rejected this MP the right wing headlines would be 'No place in Labour for her or for you'. By accepting this MP Labour shows it's the party for everyone
They probably did a deal to put her in the house of Lords, which would be the start of swapping tory corruption for Labour corruption
Labour gets to make a jab at Tories, it shows Tories are divided and no longer representing what they used to. It does hurt Labour from Labour voters view but it is clearly a hope that it hurts Tories more and encourages Tory voters.

The female journalist in the plum berre spoke the most sense....
She is stepping down at next election - so Labour will select a different person to stand at General Election, what Starmer has done is accepted her defection to show how Sunak and current Government is massively divided
If she intended to stand again, I suspect Starmer would not have accepted the defection - however media is ensuring that point is missed

Time for Independent MPs.
Went to Dover a couple of years ago. Just to see the famous white cliffs of Dover. A truly miserable place. A lot of drugs and street drinking.
Dover was like a war zone at night 30 years ago. It’s a very dirty, run-down, depressed place that has the usual social issues, like low wages, low aspirations, high social deprivation and poverty.
Yet the locals bend over backwards to vote Conservative.
I have absolutely no sympathy
But it makes you appreciate not being in Dover after you have left.

She should face an immediate by-election as her constituents voted for her as a Conservative not a member of the Labour party.
Does that apply to 30p Lee aswell ?
@@dicklebilly3115 Yes. In my opinion any MP defecting is cheating their constituents and should face a by-election as they weren't voted in on the basis of the party they've jumped to. I think this should always apply.
Don't worry, they changed their minds before she did.
Not how the system works. As she's not standing again it doesn't really matter.
@@slightlyconfused876 I know it's not how the system works, that's why it's a suggestion to change the rules so that defections don't become the norm. 1:55 Spot on. That constituency desperately needs an upgrade. Needs to be a trendy, artisan, vibrant, diverse place.
Really great balance here! Proper politics reporting, thanks!
Doesn't matter all of that much. She's standing down at the next GE anyway. If Sunak ever calls one, that is. The UK has bigger problems than one MP.
Heres an idea. Why dont you hire more people to process applications and speed up the process.
I'm surprised they haven't gone for a private company, I mean, tens of billions a year straight into a Tory donor's pockets and they might well increase processing by up to 1%.
3:52 this is the problem with British politics. People are so dumbed down by the media that they think "give the other party a go", not realising that the other party are not going to change anything.
Like to put a thousand pounds on that?
@@slightlyconfused876 yes. If there's a specific criterion.
Labour will not change any substantial policy on economics, foreign policy or law and order. They will continue with austerity.
I would love someone to do a poll to ask English people if they want independence.
I’d love a split away from the south of England, so Yorkshire, the north-west and the north-east can be rid of places like Kent, Norfolk, Hampshire etc.
London ought to leave too. That would destroy the so-called ‘rich’ Home Counties and the Tory south-east 💀💀
That guy at 6:48, holy cow, talk about saying the quiet bit out loud. “The foreigns don’t stay here, it’s nice”
It was interesting that the pro-tory guy used the word 'foreigners' and not refugees or immigrants when talking about the small boats.

I don't mind accepting Tory voters ... but I do NOT want to accept right-wing Tory MPs. This is all about her, protecting her seat, not changing her views.
She's not protecting her seat, she's standing down at the next GE, 7 months maximum.

But wont she still be working within Labour on housing policy?
@@nathanaelsmith3553 I’m sure she’s probably been told that. Maybe she believes it too. In all honesty, she’s just being used by Starmer as a bat to beat the Tories with. Far too many on the left are reading too much into this. She won’t be influencing policy, she’ll be out of the Commons and forgotten about in six months, and Dover will be properly red. Meanwhile Sunak’s precious stop the boats crusade has been torpedoed by one of his own and the Tory right are spitting chips over it, which in itself is enough reason to celebrate it.
