P&O used to have many UK workers who under employment law were entitled to UK minimum wage. P&O ferry boss said the company was not sustainable in the current climate due to being heavily affected by the restrictions of covid. So, according to the P&O boss he broke UK employment law and sacked every single UK employee on the day without any notice or consultation period which is required by law. What is worse the man admitted that he broke UK law and was very brazen about it. He then goes employs agency staff under what is known as international wages, wages that are not regulated by any country BUT is a set amount which any company operating internationally such as ferries, container ships, cargo ships and airlines. The problem with international wages is that they are extremely low which is a loop hole that the P&O boss has used to get cheap labour.
What he did is a disgrace and the company should be boycotted but what is worse still is that the UK public do not care because thousands of them are still using P&O for their holiday cruises.
