    Rye has a greater tap root than some cereal crops. This allows it to go further in the ground to find the moisture that other crops can't. Net result in your case Jan is a surprising amount of tonnage In a dry season.

    • @oernioerni2257
      @oernioerni2257 Před rokem +1

      The next point of Rye is, that it is the most tolerant erhalten to cold wheather is. So it can use moisture from the Winter befürchte soll dryes out.

    • @markrisebrough8776
      @markrisebrough8776 Před rokem

      Good point. I know that that the highly fibrous root system of rye holds on to moisture very well, explains its drought tolerance. Further to that, rye brings potassium up through the lower soil profile to increase the concentration of exchangeable potassium near the soil surface. Rye is not something you see grown very much in Ontario. Jan did say they found the protein levels of rye quite impressive. Interesting.

    It literally takes me 3 minutes to grab the box of knives with and impact driver and a hammer, pry bar and pliers (fencing tool/pliers works great) to change out a blade. From getting out of the cab to start cutting again. She's getting faster every time.
    I like listening to audio books while running equipment in the field.

    That is not a bad crop of rye if I say so . We sale a lot of rye seed and uses the rest . Rye and Wheat don’t know which one is best they both grow damm good here. Beautiful day to get crop in or spray fields or fixing equipment that broke down. She is doing her job at least girl rock and well as guys . I’ve done it quit a bit fix equipment instead of waiting for someone to fix it. I always keep extra parts and tools on the equipment except oil . The fuel truck comes when we call or wait along side the road. Do you every put any minerals over your silage to keep the mold out?

    You pick just 3.94 ton silage in one acre, but in Punjab (India) farmers get minimum to minimum 20ton silage ( barely, wheat) in per acre, also (alfa alfa) give 4 cut in winter season they get 10ton silage every cut.

      Ag bags get used once and thrown away; while a concrete bunker like this is used over and over for many years. # of the sides are re-used, only the top plastic cover is one-time use. So much less one-use, non-recyclable plastic waste polluting the environment.
      Also, it easier/faster/less waste to feed from a bunker compared to an ag bag.
