    We had season tickets. I was 13. Ted Dean's touchdown reception against the Giants opening the 4th quarter is clear in my memory. We had climbed to the top of Franklin Field at the 50 yard line. Looking down we saw the play develop right in front of us. Unforgettable.

    The 1960 Philadelphia Eagles won the World Championship, with no 500 yard runner on the squad and had a defense which was only tenth on a twelve team league. It simply known as "The Team With Nothing But A
    Title".

    I’m a GB Packer fan; I have been since watching the “Ice-Bowl” where Bart Starr did the last minute QB sneak. When the Eagles beat the Packers for the Championship it was a great game, so I tip my hat to the 1960 Eagles; the 1960 NFL World Champions forever! Thanks for posting this great video.

    The show lists Retzlaff as a "tight end." Actually on this team he was what they called in those days a 'split-end' wide left usually with McDonald flanked wide right. Bobby Walston was the tight-end.

    • @raboni48
      @raboni48  Před 3 lety +1

      That is correct as he was a split end.

    On Christmas morning that year, there were two tickets for this game under the tree (day before the game), and my dad and I took the Broad St subway and then the Market St el out to a few blocks from Penn, and walked, with a LOT of other people, to Franklin Field. We watched it from the east end of the horseshoe, so when Taylor went down on the Eagles' 9, we had a good view--until all those adults in front started jumping up and down--but then the game was over. It's great to see Bill Campbell in here--a friend who listened to the game on the radio couldn't get over Campbell's emotional reaction when the game was won--some of which you can hear in this great little documentary.

    I was a vendor (hot chocolate) at Franklin Field in the 60s, and couldn't make any money, so I sat at the 50 yard line, and watched some really great football. By the way, hot chocolate, in those days, came in 6 oz cans, and was the only product that unsold goods could be returned. Poor, but happy.😉.

Gifford is running towards the sideline to stop the clock, and Bednarik clothesline’s Gifford at the upper torso, sending Gifford’s body flat to the ground like dropping a concrete slab. Leveled, like the expression. Gifford’s head hits the ground like dropping a stack of dishes on a tile floor. A combination of a massive hit, with a bad fall.

When Buck Shaw retired after the championship season the story is that there was an agreement that Van Brocklin was to have been named the head coach but someone reneged according to Van Brocklin and Nick Skorich was hired instead. The Packers averaged over 4.5 yards a carry that season, and despite having the better record, the Eagles gave up almost 5 yards a carry on the ground that season. Lombardi was playing his percentages. Give the Eagles credit. That day, they won key battles in the trenches.

    • @kvernon1
      @kvernon1 Před 2 lety +2

      The Eagles turned it over on their first two possessions, giving the Packers a golden opportunity to blow the game open early ... and they came away with only 3 points. This not only stopped our momentum, but kept the Eagles in the game. Scoring at least one TD off those turnovers might have made the difference between winning and losing.

    i'm only 5 minutes into the video but two quick comments. it's funny to hear the great Tommy McDonald say how he was afraid he would be cut as a young player, he went on to be the best receiver in the 60's and one of the best players of his era and a Hall of Famer.
    my other comment, why is frank Fitzpatrick in the video? "the Eagles won championships in the late 40's, I THINK 48 and 49" and "the Eagles won I THINK 5 or 6 games by 7 or less.
    put people in the video who know what they are talking about
