    I'm lucky enough to have this maestro as my teacher. He's currently taking me through a Chopin waltz, but this is very much his teaching style. Knows exactly how to bring out your best without overwhelming.

    Over the Rainbow is a risky tune to reharmonize - not least of which is because it's become something of a sacred song for so many of us. And I wasn't sure where you were going with it, but was very pleased with the final result. Really nice colors. One thing though: your pencil markings are almost invisible on the video.

      It's a song that has a reverence to many people. Alberto's rework of it is adventurous enough but still sensitive to the tune.

    As far as the ii - V - I (or ii V I?) that approaches the Em at 8:20, is a half diminished chord used for the ii since the chord you are approaching is a minor chord? It's hard to see or hear and it's not stated explicitly
    edit: I think it must be and that open 1 7 5 3 voicing sounds heavenly! I will leave the question in case others got confused by this.
    Thank you for the video, I have watched and shared it many times!

      You can try 9ths as well - but what pianists with smaller hands do is arpeggiate the 10ths. Works very well.

    Merci ! I am a bit confused for the first chord; if it’s a ii it should be a F#m, right ?

    Hello Alberto, the "II-V-I"-scene was too fast for me, because also I could no read your your unreadable pencil writing on your Leadsheet. Also the video-scene was very fast! What you can recommend?

      @jennywren8937 Před 7 měsíci +2

      Play again slower and write it for yourself. Just take notes as you absorb what's going on.
