  • Do you remember when Bolton Wanderers and Sam Allardyce were competing near the top of the Premier League? Do you know how they got there?
This two-part video series will explore how Sam Allardyce (or Big Sam) guided Bolton from mid-table in the second division to competing in Europe with a team containing the likes of Jay-Jay Okocha, Hidetoshi Nakata, and Fernando Hierro.
This video (Part 1) specifically dives into Big Sam's early career and the road leading to his appointment as Bolton's manager, before detailing how his innovative approach to management helped guide them to promotion out of the second division and into the Premier League.
Following that, we will see how Bolton fared in their first seasons in the Premier League. As well as looking at how Big Sam pulled off some incredible deals in the transfer market, signing superstars such as Jay-Jay Okocha and Youri Djorkaeff despite Bolton being a relatively unknown club with a small budget!

Born and bred in Bolton, I was 7 or 8 when Youri and JayJay were at Bolton. I remember the tough relegation battles, but the golden years that followed were great. Our stadium (Reebok as it was back then) was a fortress for those two or three seasons. Thanks for putting the effort in to making videos like this, truly enjoyable 👏🏽

I wonder what would have happened had they gave him the money in January 2007 or had he stopped? Neither would reach the same heights ever again.

@@jackbarnard6602 debt came after Sam left .. bad ownership taking money and big bonuses .. Owen coyle paying big wages .. allowing Ken Anderson to buy the club was the biggest mistake ..buying it for 7 million when he borrowed 5 million from blue marble to fund the sale . Soon as he took over he wanted a quick turnaround to make money .. selling assets .. training ground etc .. he should never have been allowed to buy it because he didn’t have money .. he ruined the club . There was better buyers who wanted us .. stelios had a consortium to buy .. also Roger Tamil multi billionaire was interested but Eddie Davies for some reason wasn’t interested and allowed Anderson in ... Anderson is the reason that Bolton is we’re it is today .
