One thing that isn't mentioned is that Bolton dropped to the championship that year by 2 poimts and this was due to players specifically rather than the manager. Holden one of the star midfielders was injured for most of the season, sadly Muamba had a Cadiac arrest and had to retire. And in the tail end of the 2010 / 2011 season Daniel Sturridge was on loan from Chelsea to Bolton with a view to sell next season to Bolton as he wasn't used at Chelsea, then at Bolton he scored 8 goals in 12 games and therefore naturally Chelsea didn't sell him and made him one of their main strikers. Therefore the striker bolton needed and thought they were going to get, was snapped up from under them. Just one of these players would have been enough to keep them up, all 3 and they'd be closer to that 6th place spot again than relegation. You could say this was still a problem of the manager and money as they should have had alternatives and better 2nds for the top players.

Some really important points. Good insight.

Lost Holden to injury also. Another player who could have spurred the Wanderers on.

I know I'm coming into this late but the end of the video is slightly wrong. Yes we're certainly nowhere near those premier league days but our tough times where during the days of Ken Anderson's ownership.
It was embarrassing to be a fan of Bolton then when everyday there was a story of unpaid wages to staff and players and screwing over other clubs like Forest Green Rovers from money they were due. Even scarier was the fact we almost ended up with Laurence Bassini as owner and I dread to think where we'd be now had that gone through.
FV but especially Sharon Brittain has brought the community feeling back to the club, regardless of what leauge we're in I think all Bolton fans are just delighted to still have a club now under good ownership. Looking at other football club owners I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone as popular as Sharon with the Bolton fans.
Obviously since the video was made we've won our first trophy in years and though not seen as major for a club that was nearly extinct I can say it meant a lot to us Wanderers fans. I'm praying for a good result this weekend to see us back in the Championship though I do worry about the quality of teams now and have no illusions of seeing us do an Ipswich if we get there. We have a good young manager in Ian Evatt who's been allowed time to build a squad and his own style of play, he's added some good young talent (notably Baxter, Charles and Collins) previously so hopefully will be able to strengthen the team again this summer.

What a comment! Could be a video all by itself 🙂
With all the time Bolton spent in the Premier league, you sometimes forget they were punching above their weight. Interesting to see if they make it back to the Premier League or if things have moved on, finance wise.

@@visualfootball I think we're still the team thats spent the longest time in the top division to never win the league title, runners up on a few occasions but never the title itself.
As for now (with a few exceptions as in every fan base) the town is behind the team in ways not seen since the Allardyce era which is purely down to the board and how the club is run now. Sharon was recently speaking the the government committee regarding the funding in lower leagues representing the efl clubs which speaks volumes of her character compared to the previous regime. I think she stated if we do go up it's actually going to need a 20 million investment from our other shareholders. Unless you have a miracle season like Ipswich I think the gap with parachute payments for premier league clubs makes it extremely hard in the Championship let alone the Premier, Sunderland are a huge club struggling to get back in there.
As previous comment was so long I completely forgot to add a thanks for covering the club, it's always good to find a video that you've somehow missed covering your own team. If all goes well this weekend and we make it back to the championship I'd certainly be looking for videos covering the turnaround of club.

There are not many pictures available of those youth players, unfortunately. Excuse to put some more recent players into the video.
