That's because he took a long run up and transferred some of that forward momentum into the ball. Think of it like a pool cue. If you tap the pool ball very close, it won't move as far or fast, but if you extend the cue far back and strike with speed and power, you can get a trick shot.

People will say Lahm was the best right back, but he was more defensive. He learned where and how to hit the ball. It's not a mystery. If you play pool, you'll understand. It's a just a matter of practice. A lot of players don't spend enough time learning where to contact the ball, or aren't brave enough to put in absolute effort on a strike. I'm telling you, there are lots of potential players who could do this, but never got the chance because they weren't loud or boisterous enough to gain notoriety at school.

Think about how fast the ball travels because of how much force he exerts, and the fact that it curves so far back into the goal, the goal keeper doesn't even know if the ball is going out or swerving in. It's hard to assume the path of the ball when it turns at a 90 degree angle 😂
@@tofoo72 Same principal as pool. Of course there's an element of the conditions involved, but if you hit the ball with proper intention, you'll get near the target. It also takes practice. Imagine being 4 or 5 years old, given a ball, and you have a wall with markings on it. If you're at it every day for years, you'll figure out how to hit the exact same spot instinctively. Same thing if you practice hitting the curb and getting the ball to bounce straight back at you. You learn where to hit the ball, under it to get it to rise, over it to keep it down, to the side to get it to curve. If you have access to a full sized pitch, that's even better, as you will learn how to lean so that the ball doesn't go over the bar when you put some power. The point I am trying to make is, that the camera isn't on when kids are at practice. You would be shocked by some of the strikes and goals unrecorded. What you see in a match is only what gets captured. Most people are right footed, so if they slice the ball it will go in and outward. A left-footed slice goes outward, then inward. That's how you fool the keeper into standing still.

Kind of. What I see though is just practice. A lot of players try for this kind of power and accuracy, but give up because the ball usually goes over the crossbar, and that's embarrassing. Instead, they should simply keep trying at training until they can repeat on target, full power shots without thinking. Also, playing pool helps comprehend the dynamics of a ball.
