I can tell you , this boot holds up. I usually go through a pair of boots every 6-8 months (not this brand). I've had my Thorogood Boots for over a year, and everything on this boot is intact. Also, being on my feet all day, they don't make my back hurt. I work for a pork processor and I'm in the cold, coolers, wet, blood, freezers at -17 degrees F, smokers, hog pens (with live hogs), lime rock driveways, etc... Great boot! Worth every penny! I'm a female and its very hard to find real work boots in the size I need, Thorogood has the best variety in sizes as well. Glad I found you. Now my husband is getting a pair. These are made for real working people.

I have the same mentality, and I work in the steel industry 320 days a year. I own 11 pairs of lineman boots from Hoffmann and Wesco, i order mine custom built because I broke my feet and ankles, I probably have around 9k dollars in lineman boots and alternate them. They will probably last me into my 80s 😂

The leather is 2.5mm so it’s slightly thicker than an iron ranger, but being tumbled it makes it so much softer and appear thin. A very comfortable boot!

I wear them all day at work, and all day after, I ride motorcycles in them. Best fit for me personally so I’ll put up with picking up a new pair 2xs a year

I just bought a pair of these last week. They don't need much breaking in although a little snug at first. I had to take out the insole insert as it a little tight. I think once boot broken in and the cork is molded to the foot the insert might be ok to put back in. I ordered 1/2 size down from my tennis shoe size. Width is very important to get right or else the boots might not ever be comfortable. The leather is thick enough in my opinion. I just was not into 2-3 months (or more) of foot pain breaking in a pair of veg tanned boots. I am wearing these for everyday use, not work so I expect them to last a long time plus they are goodyear storm welted and can be easily resoled for not much money. So far I am loving them.

We do drywall some demolition, so kicking us involved especially with heavy gauge. But I bought them because they were supposed to be indestructible. Heard it was common for last years batch of boots. And that Carolina makes similar ones made in U.S.A with stitching underneath outsole, just like my timberland boondocks

Perhaps you can get a pair of Russell Moccasin Boots. Put them through the test. In the 60's that style of boots was what everyone wore other than a logger style or western boot. Although there were some "dress" boots that were considered high top shoes. As for the top eyelet. There is a quick and simple way to tie the laces using the eyelet. However it works better with a larger eyelet a cobbler can install.

  • @JustinOFlaherty
    @JustinOFlaherty Před 2 měsíci +1

My pair fell apart in less than six months of wear. The stitching blew out on the outer toe area near the flag, leaving a small but noticeable hole in the leather that will only further deteriorate with time. For boots that were supposed to be "built to last," that was pretty disappointing. And I'll never buy another pair.
I contacted Thorogood about their 1-year warranty, and they charged me $15 to ship them back for an "inspection". Only for them to just return them back almost a month later in the same condition without any further explanation or correspondance. I've since switched to White's Perry Selects at a similar price, and they are way more comfortable and better built. The Thorogood's, in comparison, are like a cheap knock off you'd find at Walmart. There's a lot of hype around Thorogood boots, but there are much better options out there at the same price point.

  • @benhicks1392

I love my Thorogood boots. I have two pairs both 8in height. One is a Moc toe, very comfortable and I use it as a going out boot. I then bought a emperor toe thorogood. And I love that boot. I like a wide boot with lots a room in the toe box. Both of my boots are in steel toe and they have so much room in the toe box. Of course I got mine in a EE width. I work in an office but sometimes I go out into the field. I feel confident these boots will take a beating and keep on ticking. I recommend these boots to everyone.
But, unfortunately I just bought a pair of Whites Longliner boot. And there is no comparison of a Pacific Northwest boot to a thorogood. Pacific Northwest boots are just better. But, they come at a higher cost. I hate to admit my White’s are now my favorite boot. And I feel like I’m cheating on my Thorogoods! Lol
And now my other problem is I have looking at Franks and Nicks boots! Now I’m going to have to budget for boots like a new car payment! Lol
    First world problems…

@@GentlemansJourney My first PNW boot I got was the Perry Moc Toe 8in. I really liked the boot, but they only come in a EE as their widest width . I did whites measurements work sheet and thought I’d be fine with the EE width. I came up with a 10 EE, but I was wrong. I then sent my measurements into Whites and they came back with that I needed a 10.5 F. I wish the Perry came in a wider with but the EE is as big as they go. So I ordered the Longliner in a 10.5 FF. And man the fit like a champ. I went with the FF just to be safe and I’m glad I did. Now I have my Perry’s for sale on Poshmark! Lol

Idk why anybody would say they weren’t good for farming. People wear them because they’re comfortable and they last a long time. My oldest TGs are 5-6 yrs. working in myriad enviornments. I also have steel toe that I don't use as often that are 5+ yrs in. And some RWs - insulated/goretex and a lightweight 'electrician' boot that is pushing 30 yrs. They all get punished in various environments. The key is regular cleaning/maintenance of the leather. One needs to treat them as with any high quality tool. Boots, to me, are a tool , and like any quality tool, they require care and maintenance. A $200-300 TG/RW should last you at least 5yrs or more. Sure, a resole oe 2 may be neccessary. I work with so many people who won't spend money on quality gear, but will spend $4 a bottle for Lite beers (x6+/night) at the bar, not clean their gear and then bitch when it only lasts a year. I can't even count the number of times guys will ask me about boots, and then come in the next day with some POS boot because it was cheaper only to have it fail within a month.

If you do buy a pair, make 100% sure you get the right size for you. Even measure it on the foot measuring thing shoe stores have for width and length of you have to. A lot of guys buy these boots and get the same size they wear in tennis shoes and then bitch and complain about their boot. Myself, o wear an 11 in almost everything in a regular width. In these I have to go a half size down depending on the brand. Thorogoods I have to do a half size. Red wings I had to go a full size down and I bought a cheap pair of Brunt Marin wedge soles to try out and I had to go a half size down in those. In regular width. Got the brunt in a comp toe because I have to have it at work.

It is too bad that these are so narrow in the arch and instep (even in 2E). I just can't wear them. I've tried. Last time I went to the boot shop I tried on all the Moc toes I could find and these and the Carolina were like that. The Danner and Red Wing felt, if I had to say, flatter and more voluminous in that area. I wanted to get a pair of these for beaters, but they don't match my feet. What it really feels like is that the 2Es are really a D width, if I had to put my finger on it.
Do you know if this is a common thing with moc toe lasts in general? Being narrow, that is?

Problem is when I review Whites, Franks or Nicks and then come over to Thorogood. That said, I certainly know what you mean. One of my biggest points for gentlemen is that when we trade our time with our family for the mighty dollar$$ we gotta be sure we are using that dollar wisely. These seem to be a great place for a guy to spend his hard earned money. Thanks for watching!
