- This is a very inexpensive mini grinder/polisher from Amazon UK. It comes with a flexible shaft. It is definitely not a professional quality tool and has some very cheap features, but it gets the job done. I was surprised at what I got for the money. The grinder is not always available so I have included links to similar models below.

Nice video. I bought one for me already. It is light duty, but sometimes that is better than the 8 inch tool. I hope it lasts for a long time because that will make the tool an even better buy. Yes, if it dies on me, I would replace it.
I only use mine occasionally. :-)

Regarding lack of shielding from flying sparks, dust and debris how about inverting a medium size plastic storage container with two cutouts large enough to pass gloved hands through, place item to be worked on in front of grinder, then cover with storage container, put hands through holes, pick up item and work away. Now clear plastic is a must, if that's still not clear enough, then find some plexiglass, cut out window are from container, affix plexiglass over opening, from inside, extra protection. Also fashion a hold fast for container to work bench as vibration will cause container to creep across bench. And if your open to suggestions, a hole cutout in the upper area and behind grinder, to attach your shop vacuum to act as exhaust for all those flying bits.

Regarding the position of the pre positioned hole for use anchoring grinder to bench, no need to tear down the unit to place bolts down through grinder into bench for securing from below, just measure distance from bench level surface at hole and down through bench allowing for lock washers and double nuts, then pass your bolt up through bench through grinder body and secure with lock washers, maybe rubber grommet and then nut tight with hand tool right there under the arbor, should be no issues with function going this route to anchoring grinder. Wink. Stay curious ALWAYS. YOU'LL LIVE LONGER AS USUALLY HAPPIER.

Since there is no vacuuming system in a device of this size class, do you have any issues with dust/metal powder buildup near the wheels?

Possibly James, but it is more geared towards smaller tools. :-)
I used 900 watts angle grinder to sharpen a big hatchet and it's a breeze!

It is still working well Matt, but it does not get used very often. I use it to hone chisels, kitchen knives and carving tools. I fitted a homemade leather honing wheel to it so it is not used as a grinder. :-)

Looks like a little more powerful than the Harbor Freight grinder. It would be nice to see a little more torque and better quality.
It is a little under powered, but it is fine for honing. :-)
Looks like the same unit but I'm pretty sure they should not have put a speed controller on it because I think they don't have full torque unless they are all the way up

Bit disappointing, not being true variable speed, even the lowest speed looks pretty fast!...
It is only basic, but gets the job done foe me. :-)
