Nintendo : Babe it’s a new patch! Time for your nerfing
Tent : yes honey 😞
The Greninja of Splatoon 2
I feel like the problem with the patches in this game is that the devs never really realized when they struck gold on certain weapons/patches. Probably the best example was when they started nerfing top tiers in the 3.0s despite the game being extremely well balanced and they probably could've gotten away with just buffing lower tier weapons. Another example being heavy. Heavy only really saw usage of humpback and tc (and I only ever really saw Kaji using it a lot, most others were still using BP), and I think they got it right with the 4.7 nerf, and in fact, heavy probably could've used buffs to help compete with BP (better jump rng or shot velocity would be nice for finishing off longer ranged kills) but instead they reverted the old damage buff for like no discernable reason.
the nerfs and buffs are rng i swear. tons of changes with little to no sense imo with so many weapons left untouched rarely for better and mostly for way worse. Probably the thing that gets me most worried for Splat3. (Smash Bros was the same way in some ways worse) I have no faith in the balancing by Nintendo.
@@Moi_AriThey’re actually based off of who wins Koshien, a Japanese high school tournament ran by Nintendo, where whoever wins gets their weapon nerfed, and if you lose, it gets buffed
Note: L3's also were one of the best weps at *splatting* in the Koshien meta because it got 33.3 with only 2 mains of mpu and you only get main abilities in the Koshien, no sub abilities (because you play on Kiosks). Japan's TW meta is to make your base look like a freshly capped splat zone ASAP and then work on capturing mid, and having a wep arguably top tier at both was just extremely good.
It didn't stop being used in the Koshien after the mpu nerf but teams often dropped an L-3 for something more consistent at splatting or ran an L-3D IIRC? something like that
Watching these patch note retrospectives and knowing what becomes too powerful and will overtake the meta is so funny and ominous cause you can literally SEE the seeds for the current meta being sown 💀💀
when you can see how the meta will get better or worse, you can start comp-
Now that is _my_ kind of meta. Didn’t know turf used L-3 so much
Yeah it's strange isn't it? I guess I need to remember this for later: what special keeps you alive, what gives you speed, and what paints well is what wins turf war battles.
I like the call these patch notes the f*ck Tenta Brella in Particular patches because of how much they hit the poor weapon. Hopefully in Splatoon 3, Brellas won’t get hit nearly as hard with whatever patches it needs
I love how without fail Chara videos from the past year basically always have a comment that says "man I hope Splatoon 3 doesn't do (thing Splatoon 3 did)."
@@ajmoment8091 Guess these comments are cursed lol. Maybe I’ll try reverse psychology next time
@@ajmoment8091 I mean 3 hasn't been nerfing tenta into the ground, it's been keeping it either exactly the same or buffing it indirectly, I don't see how this applies to 3 here
@@whiteninji352 i hope they just gut brella it's so op how do i fight it as machine i swear
@@apersonwhomayormaynotexist9868hey, I’m from the future! Apparently tent is somehow meta now????
That Koshien grand finals was like watching two Bocut Nation comps in the same match.
I love all the mario party ds music. Ik that had very little to do with the video but that game doesn’t get enough love
Chara, i wanted to say thank you for motivating me to play splatoon again and get better overall. I played splatoon 2 on launch, but had a faulty unit about a year in and lost all my data. That absolutely tanked my motivation to play, and now I am back to just level 32. Finding your channel has really got me going and ready to play splatoon again, and I’m incredibly excited for the next game. Thanks for being awesome!
thanks so much im glad you got back into it
Ooo yay a love story!
Ray being the top 1 special for ~80% of S2, top 2 for the rest.
If this special ever comes back in any following Splatoon, well, I'm sure won't be happening.
Jesus, Nintendo really hated Bella
Who tf is bella
Yeah, like Bella was so nice
I remember the ray nerfs bc I played regular splatterscope at the time. It’s funny how I only noticed the ray nerfs when reading patch notes at the time.
Can’t wait for splatoon 3!
LMAO in most updates, and as a splat charger main, I think I never saw my weapon getting any attention. Like it's been the same weapon since the game was released
its been just omega nerfed to the ground compared to day one. (minus the charge time being sligjtly improved early on) Its crazy that its still very good but i find it way less fun not ever getting my special and getting missled every 5 secs....among other things. Dont think its ever gotten another buff that wasnt object dmg.
Apparently because our weapon is/was a "Ray Farm" it needed nerfing in like 7 direct and indirect ways. My old console has v4.5.1 on it so I can use a 210p Ray in the training room. Pre-damage nerf, it's scary
It’e like Slosh, it’s in a good spot, and is already loved, why does it need more?
1:41 I don't recall a sacattershot weapon in Splatoon 2
Yeah I think some of the English patch notes were typed when the person translating was tired so errors like that happen.
I remember I used to think that tenta brella was that one weapon that kept getting nerfed. Now I see why
I absolutely love these historical videos. Can't wait for S1. I remember using the L-3 in Splatfests before it was meta. It was a really fun weapon then.
I really like these videos! I hope you make videos about the Splatoon 3 meta when you can 😄
Wow, the spring patches must've been really hectic development to get the game into a good state before the final splatfest.
The fact that Zap 85 is STILL the defining meta FOUR YEARS LATER.
As brella main this Video is a pain💀
love the mario party music
in all honesty, i completely dropped this game about 3 months after it came out, but you and chugga are whats getting me back into it, i gotta say thank you
glad your getting back into it, Chuggas content really is some of the best
Missiles!!! -_-
everywhere!
Wonder how this will age in S3?
I wonder now how many of these buffs were meant for Turf War.
I am happy to know how shot pro got slightly nerfed. I don’t want to wear ink resistance up.
Nintendo: “L-3 will never be ballin again”
5 wholes years and range was never touched
In the great words of Big Pun "Wanna be a baller, shot caller, 20-inch blades on the Impala"
Baller
I like it
So is Nautilus 73 and Neo-Splash and Tri-Shlosher good?
mario party ds music
Random question: am I dumb because I just wanna look good instead of grinding for good abilities?
i thought v L-3 was nerfed because the baller spam in Clams, but guess it is a turf monster. Im still salty (EVEN MORE IF TURF IS THE SOLE REASON LOL) to this day about all its nerfs its gotten while shooters were made even easier to excel with tho......
How do we determine what is a good patch and what isn't a good patch? I wish I knew.
It’s really based on if a weapon is broken.
For example, this is fake btw but: Splat Charger gets infinite range, can kill everyone, etc.
For a good patch, the good weapons are nerfed a little, but only a bit, and some of the bad weapons, and remember, no weapons are bad, get buffed.
You forgot to mention the clear dapples 1:52
