Can You Beat Persona 3 Reload With Only Makoto & Orpheus? Today in Persona 3 Reload, the recently released remake of Persona 3, I try to beat Persona 3 Reload with only the protagonist, Makoto Yuki, his starting persona Orpheus and on the hardest difficulty, Merciless. Not only that, I did this Challenge Run on my first ever playthrough of Persona 3 Reload. Trying to beat Persona 3 Reload without party members was tricky. Solo Persona challenge runs are sort of my thing though, so I was prepared for the worst! I hope I was able to share with you some of the laughs and shocks I had in this Persona Challenge Run!

Just to clarify, after doing the Shadow Of The Abyss and Chidori fights on Peaceful for the bit, I went back and reloaded a previous save file to continue the run on Merciless. Sorry for any confusion!

Note Evade and resist skills cards are available at sword level 7 and 8 respectively, meaning you can negate Makotos weaknesses before the hermit fight

I'm not gonna lie to you...that was a complete coincidence LOL. When commissioning the artpiece, I just wanted it for the "I'm not gonna sugarcoat it" meme cuz I thought it'd be funny, and then it got repurposed into the thumbnail since I wanted to showcase my friend's godlike art more. I only found out after this comment about Aleks Le voicing that Kagura Bachi video.

By the wording it seems to be suggesting that the player fuse the next "layer" of personas, like "Good job on doing the thing, but doing some fusion might make things easier." though I could be wrong.

Amazing run and video. The jokes sprinkled in were funny too, I didn't know OG Shinji and Reload Mitsuru's dad has the same VA.
Regarding Lovers 2nd phase, it uses “special” zero-cost versions of Marin Karin/Sexy Dance and Agidyne. At least as of last patch. I know this since i panic drained it of SP over time in my playthrough with Drain Ability and Spirit Drain. It still used Agidyne and Sexy Dance/Marin Karin despite being actually drained of SP and checking with a primed Spirit Drain on next turn.
Some of the bosses have special flags that allow them to cast for free. It’s the full moon ones, elizabeth and the occasional tartarus guardian. They just use the ordinary skills but it doesnt do an sp check if that flag is enabled. A friend of mine datamining removed it from elizabeth and it does stop her casting when she is drained to 0
@@Ziroikabi a flag that zero’s out their cost? I thought it was just reusing the old method from FES/Portable/other titles in just giving them a special duplicate zero-cost skill inaccessible to player. Learn something new today.

I'd been excited for this since last month! Such a high quality and amazing video and so interesting to see how you combat all the scenarios! Ever since you mentioned it been checking and checking to see if I got the notif it was uploaded. Gonna write some of my thoughts and anything interesting you might like to know! :)
Fun fact some tartarus bosses including the Arqa one with the undead guys are not only weak to light but insta kill items worked on them. I had the same thing happened and tested it as a joke and it worked lmao. I was looking for a poison skill card in chests for ages for the relic but couldn't find a single one and assumed it was just either a shuffle time which I had no access to since I didnt allow random encounters or some other way I didnt know, it was easily the worst fight in the entire game. For the tank I don't think its 100+ damage that splits it its Theurgy or no split we did the exact same thing with Getsu-Ei in a lot of the areas lmao. That Anti-Elec master use was hilarious for Hermit. I spent multiple sessions reloading for magic mirrors just to stall out his elec attacks and then capitalise on his charge turns with an attack and that Dodging Lightning trophy popping was brilliantly timed! Phase 3 of hanged man is an absolute nightmare I'm so glad you got to skip it he gets even more turns and constantly puts up tetra and makarakarns and starts pulling out karn + double gods hand and heat riser concentrated Megidolaons all in 1 go. As far as Concentrate goes it was my first skill card in the 5th block lmaoo. I had the opposite in that I couldn't find Charge.
Something funny about the Reaper he will always try to abuse you if feared/confused/distressed by using physical moves. After me and a friend datamined his AI and he actually chooses his move before his turn then picks the most appropriate target, so when solo it's incredibly rare he'll even target your weakness but we also found that when taking advantage of an ailment the AI doesn't check for repel physical passives and by abusing skill mutations for all 3 repel passives I was able to beat him at level 16 on fresh file merciless by using odd morsel/weird takoyaki and a lot of luck praying for once you actually receive the fear effect he just took himself out.
You can actually beat Elizabeth without Armageddon but Scarlet Havoc or King and I is required either by getting a crit or by abusing her fake weakness of the opposite element. There's a skip you can do for the fight involving a scripted God's Hand repel causing her to go under 10,000 which makes her use a 9999 that you just endure and letting you finish it. If you hit her persona weakness she skips the next one so my Orpheus kept using Fire on her jack frost for not only boosted damage but to skip Thor meaning I'd never repel strike till I was setup for the kill. I find it funny they tried to fix the high counter strategy but then still failed to stop a skip being possible.
For Nyx I just used Megidolaon so I could have safety passives on and since my hp was like 550 or something and there was a resist physical skill card somewhere I forget. In my first attempt I assumed the sweep and sunder were almighty but they're actually physical not like the attacks in OG but I used an attack mirror near the end of the fight and it repelled moments before I died, so I put that on to reduce damage then found out Nyx has a pattern just like the rest of the bosses so I'd set up magic and attack mirrors the turns just as they were needed, abusing Apocalypse free turns. For the turns it would be a double physical move the mirror would save me from the first and I used the high counter sword which was useful for the second hit in a row. Don't think I even attacked in the last phase lmao. Another funny thing with Nyx is the AI is specifically set to never target the MC if any other ally is in the fight, the only way you'll get hit is either if all others are dead, the attack is a multi-hit or in Fortune phase if he finds your weakness.

- I did find out about instakill items working on Light/Dark weak enemies cuz there was a Monad encounter where one enemy only used Hamaon and the other used Mudoon. I tried out the instakill items just in case and yea they worked out!
- I see, I still haven't gone back to replay and probably won't for awhile. Thanks for the tank tidbit, and yea, Getsu-Ei is very absurd lol.
- That's actually really funny that you had the Charge problem while I had the Concentrate one
- Thanks for sharing this about the Reaper AI. There's so many times where the AI in this game and Golden(those two stick out the most to me) just pick the strangest options, so I'm happy to have a solid description as to how the Reaper functions.
- I see. I guess in my case I really wouldn't want to use theurgy so I guess I just wouldn't bother with Elizabeth. Fun fact, while fusing I unlocked King and I, and for some reason the game said I completed the Elizabeth request to USE King and I when...I didn't? It was really strange, maybe it was a mistranslation and they just wanted you to unlock the theurgy.
- Yea I was gonna say since you did it with only mandatory battles so no Reaper Divine Pillar that you'd NEED Resist Phys from the antique shop to handle the Sweep/Sunder damage outside of attack mirrors.

@@TatsuHaven Sadly we figured out its not possible to do Elizabeth no theurgy merciless. You can do it on hard with dlc or normal no dlc but merciless misses the dps in a 100% optimal setup by over 500 damage. Best we figured was raging tiger and all slash passives using Deus Xiphos getting her to 10,001hp and allowing her Nebiros to use infuriate. Pray for max roll crit. You can stack buff timers and break skill timers with a hard cap of 15 so stack them in advanced. The breaks need to be on since Pixie Nulls all (shining arrows would be enough to kill with 8 hits all max damage but light break doesnt exist) Then go for a Diamond Dust Goemon and she’ll barely live. You only have 1 turn after she’s under 10k the second time before she spams Diarahan + Megidolaon so you need to be as close to 10k as possible and then have 2 turns to win. Maxed out rage deus hits for 7k and diamond dust 2.5k
I also hope you do decide to do some other megaten stuff! Always super fun watching your cool challenges not only the way you commentate on the strategies but how funny you make it as well!

This and Deus' solo run of this game are officially the pinnacle, I suppose. He had arguably the most poetic post 10/4 moment I've seen in a playthrough ever with Shinji's Katsudon saving his life, and you got one over on the game and didn't let Takaya ruin the run. Good job!👍

Izanagi is probably the strongest base form Personas ever, compared to the other 2, theres only 1 weakness while the others have 2, *and* Izanagi is immune to darkness by default

Not sure if no Theurgy allowed was a necessary rule since it allows damage that ignores resistances since there are enemies in the game with nullification of all damage.

I'm curious on why not refusing orpheus so he gets null phys, although it takes a while to regrind, it makes Nyx a joke, also since nyx in the fool arcana is just laughing and doesnt do any attacks, you can just spam heat riser to extend the duration until the max of 15 turns, it would've helped with some of the arcanas, and if you had null phys the emperor arcana can't touch you, so you can reapply all the heat risers
I wanted to use the same Orpheus from start to finish. But more importantly, you can stack heat riser to extend the duration beyond the normal 3 turn limit???????????????????????????????? I legit had no clue LOL
@@TatsuHaven ye I knew you could extend it but I didn't know the limit until recently, it's been a thing since persona 5 just probably a bit different, while in persona 4 you only get to extend it once, alternatively I think both the strength's vanilla hassou tobi as well as most emperor's attacks are slash, so instead of counter, I think that you can find a null slash skill card, would be a bit long of trying to find it since I think it's a sword's 12 card, but it could've worked out well
Considering how stat boosts work in this game this really isn’t as big of a challenge as it may seem, considering you get dodge/resist elemental skill cards fairly early too
