  • Hey Good People,
I had a beautiful Chevrolet Camaro in the shop this week. It had the LT 6.2 engine with the DOD delete. Unfortunately, it still found its way to my shop for lifter failure. I couldn't believe it. Take a look at the video to to discover what happened....

Excellent vid, some serious diag skills, your customers are lucky to have you, a knowledgeable and honest mechanic. This is why as much as the sound of extra power is always appealing, outcomes like this or worse are always more common after doing such mods.

Thanks doctor, how about if you turn the crank shaft to the point there's no tension on that lifter then use the magnet to pull it out

Chrysler, GM and Ford are all having lifter failure issues. It appears that only one lifter fails, rather than several. I think that would rule out motor oil. The problem must lie in the roller needles. There must be a bad batch of needles. As with other components, I'm sure there are only a handful of bearing manufacturers. It's either a tolerance issue or a metallurgy issue. All can be narrowed down to one source. China.

Checks out. Why I quit being a mechanic. Every LS motor I worked on had at least 1 bent pushrod. Scam world to get you to buy another car in 5-10 years. If they built every Camaro like mine is now, they wouldn't make any money. It only cost a few thousand in parts to upgrade as well.

@@S4flynlow Every Chevy V8 even the sticks still have the afm/dod its just deactivated in the manual at factory. Tuning it out doesnt fix the issue and will cost 5k to truely fix it. Needs normal cam, lifters, crank and retune. Gotta drop almost half the damn motor to do cam on the post 2008 LS3 V8'. The older LS was easy cam swap, not anymore.

Pretty much the same thing happened to my car bc someone cant do basic math. 7.600 push rod in an ls3 = no good. mushroomed lifter ruined the cam and lifter bore, wanted 10k to rebuild that engine, found a rebuilt engine for 5k and car STILL isnt together.

@@AlexTheCarDoctor bought a car and it was a bit noisy(replaced yella terras because I heard they make noise with PRC rockers), but I had a second opinion and they think it's a lifter. Previous owner put in Lunati Link-bars. I'll be going with stock new ls7s. Check lifters before installs! If you google it, you will see that there is basically an industry wide failure due to manufacturing. We're seeing it everywhere.
