My friend shared this interview with me. What an interview! Happy to hear that Ato Mesfin has been appointed as the CEO of the Airline. Honestly speaking, I know that he is really a genius and an excellent person (to work with as he was my immediate manager about 15 years ago - lucky me). One can hardly find such a person anywhere nowadays. That is the least I could say about him. Anyway, my takeaway from this interview: His parents (especially his father) raised him to be a good person including being ጨዋ (polite and humble). This is seriously one of the main characters/traits (of a good citizen) that most other people in the country are currently missing. Wish Ato Mesfin and his good Team a successful journey at Ethiopian!

Guess I have known Mesfin since he first started working in the airline. I was in a different department and had rare work related contact with him. But what used to struck me most whenever I talked to him was his politeness and respect he has for people. He was the same person during the next 15 years or so I was in the airline and it is the first thing that comes to my mind when ever your I hear something about him. I have regular contact with my colleagues from the airline and we were filled with joy and happiness when we heard he was appointed to be in charge of our beloved airline. Hope you will put your mark like the most respected general manager of the airline Captain Mohamed Ahmed. God bless you with your family and wish you a long and successful carrier in the airline

Ato Mesfin is a very talented, genuine, hardworking and down to earth person. His headspace is built more from integrity. As he indicated in the interview (politely toned down), he was a prodigy in his day, exemplary for many school boys. Kudos Ethiopian to bring this person on the top leadership.
I said it before and I would like to say it again. If Ethiopian is a country, it would have been a developed country. Ethiopian is the airline I fly since 1976. I am impressed by the quality and professionalism of service of the airline. I urge the new CEO to insure consistency and efficiency of service.

He just became the CEO. Give him time. Mercato business people make more money than EAL employees with the exception of pilots. EAL has prestige. But employees aren't paid in par with other airlines like Lufthansa, BA, and EMIRATES. As a result it looses well trained staff to the competition.
