I never ever thought that Genesis songs could ever be stripped down and performed as unplugged versions without any rhythm section but it works here and they sound absolutely beautiful. It's really amazing to watch the trio of Steve Hackett on acoustic guitar with his brother John on flute and Roger King on keyboards turn these classics into true works of art. True musicianship at it's finest.
I saw him on this same tour, when he played the Swedish-American Hall here in San Francisco, and my hairy heart had an attack! This piece is too beautiful for words. I missed his tour last year, 2019, when he played to a packed house at the Paramount Theater in Oakland! He was scheduled to return. Then the pandemic hit! Now I watch his You Tube videos, sent from his home where he plays recordings from Genesis and his own solo albums and gives a lovely chat about them! Thank you, Steve!
Hackett is still churning out gold while tony and phil sit on the toilet and watch the paint dry.. peter has been recycling his old materal for the last ten years but mike is still having a crack at the whip at least... Thank God Steve is a man who wakes up in the night with new ideas spinning through his mind and has not dried up like a riverbed..
skintrade To be fair, Steve has mined the archives with his Genesis Re-visited albums and tours. However, he has also regularly released new material, and is the most creative and prolific of all the Genesis alumini.
you got that right! His chance to shine came when he left the band. I love their work when he was in it, but i'm so tired of hearing his beautiful work buried under the mix of keyboards and drums.
sauermusicDE The flute John Hackett uses is a customised instrument as he is unable to use a conventional flute due to, I believe, injuries sustained in a car crash. It has not prevented him producing the beautiful tone that he is known for. One of the best flautists around, IMHO.
Steve Hackett seems to be the most proud of the Gabriel-era Genesis.

I think this is what he intended it to sound likebut the rest of the band beefed it up.

No words to add. Heavenly!

Agreed!!!
Wow. Good choice!! Although I want 'Hands Of The Priestess' for when I'm walked down the isle, and 'Hairless Heart' for when I depart.
First time Genesis got ill was when Peter Gabriel left, and Genesis died when Steve Hackett left!
Very true my friend.

3 Dislikes?? That's preposterous!!
1:23 That looks like an E4K (Emulator 4) sampling keyboard. But I'm also wondering about the kind of flute used here...never seen such a flute before.

I did not know that brother John was in a car accident, but I believe you.
No Hackett, no Genesis.
what kind of flute is that??? O_O
Custom built flute to help John play after he was in a car accident that left him with neck issues.
16.04.21 Wer ischte? Niemand??
:)
...but not for him!
in english please
PFQG73 ok. fuck off in English. music has no language, dude
Beautiful song but a subdued audience reaction.
Genesis, without Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett, is just a mediocre band
