- Hi all! Here's the second installment in How It Could've Been a Masterpiece, and I've been super excited to share this one with you all! I love The Great Discovery and making this video has made me all the more passionate about it. Because of this, I've got a lot to say about it, even more than I did about Calling All Engines. I'd also like to thank you all for the kind comments you have left me on the Calling All Engines Review, I've seen and appreciate all of them and am eternally grateful for every single one of you. I hope you all continue to join me on this journey through all of the Thomas & Friends films. Hopefully I'll be able to make one every month moving forward, but I start Graudate School in the Fall so it'll become much harder to get one done per month but I'll try my best now and try my best then. So for now, I hope you all enjoy the video. See you in How It Could've Been a Masterpiece #3: Hero of the Rails! :D
I actually remember rewatching this special quite a while ago, and I'm stunned by how high it is on my favourite Thomas movies!
For moments I'd include in a potential re-write Rosie Angelina-style (I easily recommend her; her Thomas stories are fantastic!), I instantly thought of a scene where after Stanley finds him, Thomas lays his feelings out in the open for him to hear, and while by no means easy for him given how he has acted beforehand, Thomas allows himself to be emotionally vulnerable so Stanley knows exactly what's been going with him.
And then to his amazement, Stanley would confess to feeling some jealousy of his own towards Thomas, having heard about all the things he and his friends have done over the years and how close they all are in spite of their different personalities. In fact, imagine how Thomas would feel if Stanley reveals what he and the others were talking about in the sheds the night Stanley was in Thomas's berth: Thomas himself.
I think another bit with Diesel 10 could be during the search montage is where we see him. He has his snarling face as he lumbers across the tracks with his claw lifted up. He almost looks unwilling to help but is forced to anyways. It could show that he still despises him but only helps because he’s told to
Nice! I like that idea a lot! Good one :)
Since Hiro is one of the first steam engines on Sodor, he might know about Great Waterton too.
The Great Discovery is one of my favourite Thomas movies, I have many fond childhood memories about watching it.
This review is amazing, and I do agree with most of the opinions and statements here. New subscriber!
I realized how long Thomas has been on Sodor from the very start of the seasons while Stanley is relatively new
What about the CGI Brenner era for Thomas and Percy's friendship? It must have been grounded and realistic too.
The Great Discovery *is* my favorite movie of Thomas and friends. Like damn, Thomas's character arc hits soo hard man and his character is just total perfection, somehow Sharron Miller had a great understanding of his character and complexity..... did I just say that =/. And also, I adore Stanley, he's such a pure character and his desing is just out of this world
I have nothing bad to say about the movie, like at all, it's one of the most wonderfull experience I had in a while ; but I genuinely believed that if Edward had a bigger role like you said, it would have made this all ready perfect movie into the definitive Thomas film.
*I'm not really a HIT era guy, but either way I'm glad that this era existed at all because if it wasn't for this era, we wouldn't have seen this masterpiece!!!!*
One thing it would have like is that they include all the engine prop the production team have if it was going to be the last production model they'll we do
Maybe the real great discovery was the friends we made along the way.
Also, it's so nice to watch someone talk about how much they love something for nearly an hour.
I love that! Also agreed! Thank you so much for your support :)
The music in this movie is so amazing the songs and the score is gold
I like to have Molly be in the Story but be a Comfort and encourge Thomas when he down and out.
I think i have two ideas for edward maybe have he overhears Thomas being jealous of Stanley after he's been lifted back on the rails and after he pass them then after great waterton has been destroyed edward would replace james where he tells toby why thomas shunted too many trucks for Stanley.
I would put steady eddie, toby's special surprise, james works it out, tram trouble and gordon takes a shortcut in my AU the first of season 12 since they feature great waterton
YES! I love this series! Keep up the ABSOLUTE AWESOME WORK!
(Side note: I may not talk about it on my channel at least but I am a HUGE fan of Thomas content:) )
Thank you so much for your support!! It means the world :)
The great discovery is my favourite Thomas movie/special
A nice way to end the model era with great music
When you get to "Sodor's Legend of the Lost Treasure", I know one fix that is pretty much manditory. When Fatty McHatty sees Thomas running off with the dynamite and is about to verbally unload on him, BEFORE Fatty can scream Thomas' full name, Ryan is like "Sir! Thomas just saved us!". This right here could catch Fat Boy off guard, and hears everyone out as they explain that the dynamite was prematurely ignited. However Thomas cuts in and tries to take full blame, saying he forgot to warn Ryan about the bad coal he took that caused sparks to go off. However as he prepares for verbal impact, Fatty firmly but fairly says "I see. Well I suppose its better to loose the dynamite than loose an engine or workman.", acknowledging that Thomas was not fooling around this time, but despite not being scolded this time, Thomas still feels like shit cause he caused so much trouble.
Then maybe later have a scene of Gordon sadly confessing to the Fat Controller that he instigated the Knapford incident and humbly asks to take Henry's goods work while Henry takes the express out of remorse. Fatty sternly but firmly says "Very well, Gordon.", and sends him off. However Fatty can't help but feel concerned about Thomas, and the two talk things over as Thomas feels awful for all the shit he caused in a desparate attempt to 1-up Ryan, feeling like he doesn't matter anymore, and tells Fatty about Sailor John and how he unintentionally caused him to pursue the treasure. Fatty goes into "Now's not the time to moan." mode and instructs Thomas to stakeout at Knapford, leading to the big chase.
This is actually a really smart, and frankly pretty awesome take man, I’m might have to mention this in the video and credit you for it, lol, this is too good. Seriously, great ideas here: would make the film feel even more thematically and dynamically complete
@@moonlightrider24 Glad you like it. Cause this is a bit of a hot take, but I don't like how Thomas was written in SLOTLT, as it feels like they wanted what "The Great Discovery" had but went about it the wrong way. In TGD, Thomas feels remorse for the trouble he caused cause of his own ego getting the better of him, whereas in SLOTLT, he responds to every accident he causes with czcams.com/video/pJTGAtLH7Hw/video.html
I think the last time I watched "The Great Discovery" James starts off being happy going with Thomas to the Wharf, then smug and uninterested when Stanley starts bonding with him and the rest of The Steam Team engines, angry after Thomas ruins the construction of Great Waterton, but cares about him once he goes missing.
The fact that Duncan sent Thomas onto a death trap has me dying! 😂🤣😈
Shows us how bad@$$ he can be...
For some reason Duncan always got the most correct writing for the HIT Entertainment SKR episodes.
The trope of Thomas not getting along with new engines (not always) soon got annoying in later movies and episodes like "Heave ho Thomas", "Engine of the future", MIR, SLOTLT, TGR and the BWBA movie.
l:(
The movie does have learning segments like "Calling all engines", but they were separated as a bonus feature.
Sharon Miller wrote this movie?
James was the antagonist of this film if you really think about it. He got in Thomas head causing him to act the way he did and no mention of his actions of that any time after all the shit went down? Damn James is the best Thomas villain and here is proof.
Dude I love this! Just discovered your channel. I loved the big cast of TGD and it's my favorite Thomas film and I have a lot of nostalgia for it. I even made some videos of nostalgic scenes that I hadn't seen anyone remake before lol. I have a lot of love for this movie and your thoughts are appreciated! :D
Hope to see more from your channel soon!
I love your remakes! This means the world. Thank you so much :) I’m glad there’s someone else out there that loves this movie as much as I do!
@@moonlightrider24 Aww I can’t believe you’ve watched my stuff. :)
Just a suggestion, sometime you should totally do some kind of analysis of underused characters in the show and an alternate version of a season to bulk them up. For example, alternate season 8: focuses heavily on the new changes of the mainline crew, Murdoch and Emily’s interactions with the big 3 and other tidmouth sheds residents. Arthur settling in on the little western. Fergus at the quarry. Maybe BoCo and Derek get a return episode, who knows. 👍🏽
@@halcroenstation of course! Also I love that idea! I plan to talk about more minor characters and then later every season of the show and pitch alternate ideas for them, so I like that! I’ll keep it in mind. Thanks for your support :)
@@moonlightrider24 Awesome dude can't wait to see more :D
Can’t wait to see you tackle Day of The Diesels. So much potential. Such poor execution.
I can’t wait either! :D
I am now way too mind blown after all of this, this is legitimately why me and everyone knows The Great Discovery is literally everything just like a real movie! This is what I call nostalgia, I love this movie so god damn much!!! 9/10 🥰🥹🤩
When's the next HICBAM coming?
Hi there! I’ll be honest, I took a break from it and have been so busy with school this last year I haven’t had time but I plan to finally get it out this summer, so watch this space! Thanks for watching!
