Because that nail polish remover has a nber of other ingredients other than acetone, the acetone will evaporate off leaving water and other stuff misleading you into thinking the solvent is still there. I have experienced this when using nail polish removing pads that become less effective after a minute or so, yet they still feel damp, because the acetone is gone but water remains.
Yes only acetone will remove superglue but in confined space like a door lock this is not viable (won't work) superglue will turn to liquid at a certain temp blowtorch (300°c+) use acetone afterwards to clear what residue is left.

the issue is , acetone will take off paint too. and I have glue on something that's painted and need to get it off.

Any hardware store or pharmacy should/ will supply acetone I got mine from boots pharmacy make sure its 100% pure or won't work like acetone should also amazon sell 100% pure acetone my friend.
Check around where they sell nail polish as it is the best salon strength nail polish remover.

I've got a strange application I'm going to try this on. I have really high end 1/18 diecast model and the box has what looks like glue or super glue sort of spread out in a two inch or so area. I tried rubbing alcohol and WD40 but they had no effect. So I'm getting some Ace tone, no wait that's KISS, I'm getting some acetone and I have an old box that I'll test the sturdiness of the plastic window before applying it to the actual box. It's worth a try, it'd be nice to remove that, the whole presentation in the box would improve as well as the resale value. Thanks

@@HacksbyDad Thanks, I tested some on an old empty diecast car box, and it didn't melt through, but it also didn't take off whatever it is that's on it. That's life, it's not a big deal, it was worth a try. The car inside is perfect so that's the main thing.
My project was to glue magnets in a ceramic dish to turn it into a pin cushion. The first one set, but as I was getting the second one set, the first one was trying to pull forward to the other, causing the ceramic to crack. Luckily I realized this before the second magnet was set, and 100% acetone nail polish remover melted away the excess glue. However, the first magnet is set and I can’t get it removed. I tried to soak the area with the acetone, but eventually it evaporated. Anyone have any tricks or advice?
Any vegetable oil will soften and remove CA glue. Some brands state this on the package.

Acetone will most definitely dissolve it, like it wasn't even there.
It works for metal, but the moment you put it on a surface with a finish, it eats away at it. What are solutions for things with paint or gloss on it?

Put Vaseline on just about anything that is bonded with superglue and I’ve had very good results. I usually wait about ten minutes before easily getting the glue off whatever I need to remove the glue from

if you get super glue on your hand and it drys up put some salt in some water put your hand in it and peel off the super glue

That being said it doesn't happen instantly. I used acetone on a cotton pad to take the logo off of computer mouse recently. Using light pressure and dabbing, and allowing to dry in-between. If you press hard and keep it wet acetone will melt ABS plastic.
