I don't know why the Chippendales clip is controversial; Chris Farley gave us someone who OWNED the way he looked and moved. It wasn't a mockery, it was a celebration!!!!!!
It was a celebration of body confidence!!! I’m so confused.
Exactly! Chris Farley's character was confident and Patrick Swayze's character wasn't, and the judges took his audition seriously. I think it did the opposite of body shaming him.
That is comedic gold. No one did physical comedy like Chris.
It was probably a thin person who was offended for a larger person. It always like that
Looks like Dan Akroyd started the running man.
I'm glad there was a time when people enjoyed laughing and understood the difference between funny and mean. The Chippendale sketch was comedy gold performaned by two legands who made us laugh without being mean.
YESSSSSS! That's exactly what I basically said, too!! Great minds think a like! Lol!! I don't watch SNL anymore. It's become a political crap show, and not the comedy it used to be I think. I was a teen in the early 90's. Farley, Sandler, Spade, and Schneider made the show a hit in the early 90s!!
I wonder what people today would think of Chevy Chase and Richard Prior doing the word association.
When people dismiss others, to justify disrespect; then you still don't understand the difference between being mean and being funny.
When people dismiss others, to justify disrespect; then you still don't understand the difference between being mean and being funny.
No kidding!!! Now all we have to laugh at are the politicians - not.
I’m so happy that Steve Martin and Gilda Radner’s Dancing in the Dark was included. This showed how incredibly talented Gilda was. Steve Martin hosted the weekend after Gilda died and they opened the show with that clip. I can’t watch it without getting teary.
It was bittersweet.
Not a single word of dialogue. There's no equal.
I remember that night when he hosted- holding back tears- I had never seen the skit before- at the end I was too
I agree!
It's Lunch Lady Land for me, as I grew up on that era of SNL, and remembering anything that Chris Farley ever did, on the show or off, is bittersweet- and now Almost Heroes since Matthew Perry passed.
Kristen Wiig is a genius impersonator yet so underrated. She nailed Ann Margret, Liza Minnelli, and their moves. She's known for many others: Drew Barrymore, Jamie lee Curtis, Jennifer Tilly, Hepburn, Bjork, etc. etc. Brilliant.
Absolutely!!,
That's for sure
She's so awesome!!!!🥰
Underrated? By whom? She's a brilliant actress in dramatic roles too. Check her out.
I'd LOVE to hear her Jennifer Tilly! I bet she got that breathy, little girl, and otherwise hard to describe voice down pat!😂😂👏👏👏
Patrick Swayzie! What a beautiful man!!!! RIP, Buddy! 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
All of them are timeless! some of them are gone, but what a way to remember them so dearly! My brother and I would sit in front of the TV on the go, laughing so hard or trying not to, because our mom was sleeping! loved SNL! People had a sense of humor back when, I do not find any controversy in any of it. It is called comedy not mockery, laughing with not at, Chris Farley was an amazing comedian who seemed made of rubber! and Patrick, I think that he was biting his tongue really hard so he did not break character, that one alone was epic!
How Patrick Swayze never broke character, I'll never know. 😂
#14 Kristen Wiig’s Ann Margaret was right on. Hilarious!!!
Was getting worried for a minute but, you came through with the un-arguably best dance sketch in SNL history and I imagine it will never be topped. Farley's big man athleticism make the skit and the comedy is just that a man of Farley's stature would not have been a typical archetype for a Chippendales dancer. Of course he had personal issues with his obesity but, he used them to his own advantage. R.I.P. Chris and Patrick.
Yep. I think a lot of the ratings would depend on your age and how much you watched. But Swayze and Farley's dance off is legend.
@@debunkthejunk True enough age matters. I always say that age is just a number, mine happens to be a rather high one.
@@eugenebrandon3914 No doubt. I recall Martin's King Tut but I didn't see it so I don't know where to rank it. Murphy's Hot Tub is one I didn't see live but saw a few years later on VHS and I still remember the words. But I tend to rank the 90's cast and their dance skits higher because that's what everyone was talking about come Monday morning. This list is well compiled but I have a feeling whomever made it was slightly younger than me. Just a hunch.
Chris Farley and Patrick Swayze's skit is and always will be the VERY BEST dance SNL skit ever in my humble opinion. I loved Farley!!!! Can you imagine if these 2 were still alive and SNL brought them back to do a remake? What a classic gold moment that would be!!! Lol!!!! Thank you both for the laughs!❤️❤️❤️❤️
I agree wholeheartedly. I wish people would stop it with the "body image" stuff. There's a certain contingent of the population that wants to live in a cocoon. That isn't how life works.
@amiblueful Yesssss! I totally agree about the body image. I hate to say it. Both of my parents were "big." Growing up, they taught my younger brother and I not to make fun of anyone. Regardless of how they looked. My late husband and I brightened our kids up with the same morals. My daughter is raising my grandaughter the same way. I wish peeps would look at ones heart/personality instead of their physical appearance. Every single one of us on earth has some sort of flow. When we all get cut. We all bleed the same color of red. ❤️
I will never understand how Bill Hader made it through the Black Swan sketch without laughing or dying from holding it in.
Especially when Carey flashed him.
I watched the live episode of Farley and Swayze. I have never laughed so hard in my life! I almost threw up I was laughing so hard. They never broke character, and were so concerned that they wouldn't make the cut. Comedy Gold!!! 😂😂
Every time Jason Sudakis jumps into WUWT, I friggin roll.
Hot Dam, Hot tub party. King Tut, Dancing in the dark,, Blues Brothers & The Chech Brothers
Chris Farley always committed himself totally to his dances.
He was actually a trained dancer, believe it or not.
Lunch lady land and Chippendales Audition…Chris Farley is was will always be the best!
King Tut was awesome.
Eddie Murphy in the hot tub was awesome.
Gilda Radner was great!
living in those days was awesome.
We stayed home partying until SNL was over, then went into N.Y.C. to party more. When those clubs closed, we went to after hours clubs in SoHo and the Bowrey until dawn. Good Times!
It was amazing back in the day though I’m finally seeing skits get better these days. It’s like they took a 15 year hiatus.
@@auntlizard262 what I miss most of all is that we all laughed at ourselves. Today comedy is weaponized and lacks the gravitas that made SNL funny back then. We are now dictated to as to what and who we can laugh at.
Christina Applegate as Jillian Chizz helping her students "find their Fosse" is my favorite (ka-konk!)
Yeah, I was really impressed by her characterization here. I'm surprised more people haven't mentioned it.
@@leavingitblank9363 But it's also a bit sad watching her here, considering her struggles with MS.
Absolutely the best moments. God bless Chris Farley. We miss you, man. Rest in Peace.
A conda made of stona! I remember we could stop laughing or dancing for a month . In fact SNL can't be topped for the best song parodies and moves depending who's in them.
Gave us lots laughs at home parties back in the day😂
I remember that my brother had the king Tut album. Too funny. 😂
This makes me mourn the loss of too many of these comic geniuses; thanks for the laughs.
Special mention to Kristen Wiig. She fell (literally) so easily into her characters, you were laughing before she said anything.
She is goofy as hell as a Lennon sister with the doll hands.
The Blues Brothers. Awesome 💯 John Belushi RIP ...
Payton Manning and Will Forte doing the locker room dance is one of the funniest things I have ever seen !!!!
Jim Carey in Black Swan was priceless
Did she say MILA KUNIS' character was the swan?? I KNOW IT'S Natalie Portman. ??
We knew what would be number 1!! I can’t believe they are both gone. 😢😢😢
But I do love Kristen Wiig trying to turn off that light!!!! “Is it a foot tapper?” 🤣🤣🤣
"Chippendales Audition", a classic! Love "Hot Tub" as well.
Anything Wiig is HILARIOUS
Also Belushi and Farley live FOREVER in a van down by the river❤❤❤❤
Omg Steve Martin - that’s NOT cultural appropriation 😒
He’s hilarious
Agree 100%
The King Tut controversy thing is so ridiculous that it shouldn't have been mentioned. He made a song about the King Tut exhibition and the interest in Ancient (keyword ancient) Egyptian culture at the time. Not about Egypt and modern Egyptian culture as a whole (which is different than 1000s of years ago). It wouldn't make sense for them to be performing this song in modern 70's suits and gowns or something... Also again, I really want to know which Egyptians especially the descendents of the ancient Pharaohs who still wear wigs and linens and eye makeup are offended by this and consider it appropriation lol. Probably zero
Right you are, it's a sketch on a comedy show. Don't like it, skip to next. But don't get on a high horse and start spouting pc nonsense. If you didn't live 3000 years ago, you can not truly say what the culture was like to be a part. History is an interpretation and theorization of limited data survived.
I just graduated high school when I saw this live with my brother. We doubled over laughing. Do people have trouble with Walk Like an Egyptian? That was worse. C’mon. The King Tut exhibit was HUGE. It was perfect. I still remember all the words 😜
I remember the King Tut exhibit! When I was a young girl, it came through Philly and we had a school trip to see it. Being a lover of ancient Egypt and archeology, I was fan girling out like crazy.
I also remember the hilariously fun SNL skit. Love Steve Martin.
I even had the 45 whose B side was a wonderful banjo driven instrumental called Sally Gooden, also written and played by Steve Martin.
Both he and the actor George Segal were/are wonderfully accomplished banjo players.
@@badkitty4922Steve Martin did a banjo version of King Tut for an album a few years ago!
@@downhomesunset omg! I'd love to hear that!
I wonder if I can search it here in YT.
Thanks, bud!
“Soul Man” just sounds so good and glad to see it made the list.😉😊
1. Steve Martin and King Tutt
2. Steve Martin and Gilda
Let's not forget We are 2wild and Crazy guys !!!!
Eddie Murphy and Jim Carey and Adam Sandler have got to be the funniest comedians ever. You never know what to expect from them. I remember the Steve Martin song King Tut and would listen to it all the time when I was younger. Then you have the Blues Brothers who are iconic. I really miss the old days of SNL.
King Tut: as a belly dancer at the time, 2 of my fellow dancers & I did a comedy dance to it wearing "pharaonic' half-masks. It was a HOOT! 🤣🤣
me too
One of the best parts about watching folks enjoying their work and laughing
Omg!! The boys of SNL. 🤣🤣🤣. The single ladies sketch had my sides splitting 🤣🤣🤣. They should've added Jim Carey. That would've been epic.
Paul Rudd was right there . . .they should have added him in a leotard.
Check out Jim Carey on In Living Color doing Vanilla Ice . I was cracking up and crying!
The Chippendales with Patrick Swayze and Chris Farley is one of my favorites. I have watched, live, the Chippendales so Chris giving his all was amazing. I laugh add hard today as when shown the first time.
I can't pick just one! They're all hysterically awesome!!😂
Everything on this countdown list was funny, but the most funny skits for me were the Eddie Murphy impression of James Brown on Celebrity Hot Tub & Beyonce's Single Ladies parody with Justin Timberlake, Andy Samberg & Bobby Moynihan. Justin "slayed" that choreography! That shit had me on the floor in gut wrenching laughter! I was rewinding that part of the video just to laugh at all of them, especially Justin. Beyonce was looking like, "Oh, my goodness. What is happening right now? You guys are crazy!" It was all in good, crazy & quirky fun.
Definitely dancing in the dark with Gilda and Steve.
"Playing straight while looking absolutely ridiculous" *is* Steve Martin 😄.
You missed "Sprockets".
Oh,yeah they did!😂😂😂😊
Was going to comment on that! Disappointing, that was always one of my favorite MM character.
Oh my goodness. These are the BEST! Chippindales will always be my favorite. Chris Farley could really shake and move. He kept up with every move and more here. And what can we say about Patrick Swayze? But if it has been blasted by body image police I think it is unfounded because there is no shaming here. Only one hundred percent moving of the ass.
Whoever said this is body shaming isn't watching this correctly. Chris Farley is having a great time and completely owning the sketch as he dances, and just generally celebrating himself up there
The David Pumpkins skit was bizarre and crazily nuts (NO PUN). Loved it.
Only SNL......❤
The OG's get my pick; James Brown, King Tut, Blue's Brothers, Two Wild n Crazy Guys...and Jason's Running Man, wow!!!
hands down...Soul Man. I was dating the trumpeter in ma whit soul band (go figure - it was 1969) . This was their signature song,.
Spartan cheerleaders 😂😂
Am 56 and have been watching SNL since I was 13 so happy to see this old clips. But got so pissed at the PC remarks, an we just laugh and not overthink everything.
Agree!
Agree
Sad that someone at Mojo felt compelled to mention them.
"Omeletteville" should not have been an honorable mention. Anytime a host gets his own recurring sketch (as this was), it deserves top 5 status.
Those hands.
JT and Fallon becoming best friends was a hilarious gift that kept on giving to the world!
Chris Farley was a genius rest in peace sweet man...
Steven Sondheims’s WEST SIDE STORY?????? What would Leonard Bernstein say about that?
Sondheim wrote the lyrics, Bernstein the music.
I love those "Les jeunes de paris" sketches. Taran Killam always trying to hook up with a French girl (usually Emma Stone), with lots of references to everything Paris.
Actually, didn't he do a Robyn skit for the song "Call Your Girlfriend"? He danced in it.
The Blues Bros. were iconic. Belushi and Ackroyd could sing! James Brown hot tub and Single Ladies hilarious.
"They can't stop us. We're on a mission from God"!!!
Summer 1980.
Fun drive down memory lane, thank you. Definitely a difficult countdown as so many excellent bits to choose from throughout these last neatly 50 years! Appreciate the included oldies and your number one choice was spot on…historical to be sure… I’ll never forget watching it live, I peed a little!! 😂
I would love to see the skits without the annoying narration
Go somewhere else
Omg I agree
What was her point in the annoying dialogue in these videos?
Every Mojo channel thinks ppl gaf about the narration. Then again, they copy every other channel on yt, so you can't expect much.
Kristen Wiig's Ann-Margret dance was brilliant. I will always miss Will Forte's beautifully weird skits.
Andy was the best single lady
Gilda and Steve stood the test of time (still funny). I want to perform the same dance at my wedding if I find someone as weird and funny as me. . . .probably won't
Chris Farley definitely knows how to commit to a skit. I would say that skit was body positive: The judges were having a tough time deciding between a perfectly fit man and an overweight man who had some good moves. People will find anything to complain about.
That being said, many of these weren't that funny and they missed Bill Hader in a box dancing.
Roxbury guys 😂😂😂😂😂
What's Up With That? has to be my all time favorite reccuring sketch from SNL 🤣🎶
Jason's Running Man is truly epic.
Thank you for the update, MsMojo..!! I was wondering where Swayze and Farley's skit was while watching.. and found that was #1..!! (lol)
These are fantastic!! Very entertaining and funny!! Love King Tut!! Soul Man!! ….oh my gosh Eddie Murphy ! ✌️❤️😂😂😂😂
What's most awesome to me about all these sketches is the commitment of the actors! They are "ALL IN" at all times in all of them. The guests stars as well as the cast. I could never pick a favorite as I had to re-decide as each new one came on.
Missing Gilda Radner and Chis Farley so much! Comedic geniuses!
Running Man dance by Jason will always be at the top right along with the Chris Farley, and Patrick Swayze. Also Soul Man.. my top 3..
Chris Farley... What a treasure he was!
Lighten up, Portland! 🙄
Couldn’t care less that someone might be offended.
What Up With That is my absolute favorite! And how he plays Lindsey Buckingham every episode NEVER gets old!!!!
I have never considered West Side Story “a Steven Sondheim musical.” The music was written by Leonard Bernstein!
Sondheim did the lyrics and Bernstein the music
Steve Martin! ❤️😂
The Tom Hank’s sketch is perfection.
This may have been the best 25:49 minutes of my life
So many of SNLs best lived life fast and died too young: Gilda Radner, John Belushi, Chris Farley, Andy Kauffman, Norm Macdonald, Phil Hartman,… just to name a few. Each leaving a legacy of laughs and contributions to comedy that are eternal.
Travis Scott in a sketch? You could have probably skipped that one WatchMojo
He couldn't even hit the dramatic silence in the Jeopardy theme song. His dancing 'skills' do NOT impress.
Lol. Reminds me of when SNL was still funny. And when people weren't offended by everything.
SNL is still funny...it's just not as quantitatively funny...comedy is so much more difficult in today's world. IJS.😊
6:39 I would've loved to see the next few seconds of this sketch to see if he broke character and just started laughing
Cool list. I never realized how memorable the dance sketches are. I'd move Murphy's Hot Tub up and maybe the Blue Brothers one as well just because the spin off movie is epic. The Single Ladies sketch is more memorable than the actual video. I'll always remember Timberlake for that and Omleteville (Dick in a box is hard to forget). But the Chippendales sketch can't and never should be forgotten. If people are still talking about it today it's because those two legends knew what they were doing.
I haven’t seen some of these skits since they first aired. They’re still hilarious and I applaud your rankings!
Steve Martin and Gilda Radha 😂😂😂
Boy Dance Party deserves more than just an honorable mention.
Lunch Lady Land is my favorite skit ever. I have watched snl since I was a child and the years of Chris and Adam were the best. Now we lost four of the funniest since. I hope it doesn’t ruin it all.
Just watched to Jim Carey Black Swan number about 17 times. Never gets old!
Thanks for putting this together! Great memories 🥰 RIP Chris Farley “ had a big crush back then! Beefy & Sexy! 🥰
RIP John Belushi, Gilda Radner 🙏❤️❤️
And swayze didn't break character next to Farley. That is amazing
Love this! Love the coverage of numerous decades!
That was so much fun.😂😂😂 thank you.
Im a '70s girl. King Tut aka Steve Martin is my warm, fuzzy wild n crazy guy favorite❤❤ happy feet and all.😁 Jesus!!! I almost firgot SOUL MAN! FOR SHAME. But Belushi's duet with Joe Cocker was the be all to end all. Hell, i miss and love ALL THE OG SNL SKITS
Gilda and Steve!!!!!
I was a kiddie then, it was funny seeiing it so many years later.
Jim Carey is a legend
The TUT sketch is still funny
What's Up With That cracks me up every time. It's a super party with awesome dancing from the guy in the red sweat suit! Love it ❤❤❤❤😂😅
Thanks for this gem of a compilation 😂 my hard day was just made! Such fun and funk all right here!😊😊😊❤🤗🤗🤗😛❤
I can’t believe that King Tut gets criticized for “cultural appropriation”. Come on people! Remember when skits were just funny? The world has completely lost it’s sense of humor. And in the Chippendale’s skit Chris Farley won the audition. We could laugh with him because he laughed first.
I’m on board with you!! The skin is so thin these days!! Or these people just enjoy wallowing in their anger!! A lot of this has to do something with no confidence!! Too bad!
I say let’s laugh and play and have fun! Like the good old days!
@@coryd2668 I couldn’t believe that remark! We are so done as a society 😡 Nobody dare have fun or laugh…
@@bismoeful God forbid!
Lunch Lady Land and Chippendale Audition absolutely my favorites. Many other great ones in there also. 😅
#1 rightfully took it's place! Always a favorite!
Chris Farley was physically fit, his energy was astonishing,
too many great performances to choose from-
God I wish they would just show the clips - the narration only interferes and detracts.
I agree. Explain the setup and the. let it play
It's number 20 for me with awlwufina 😅 lmao 🤣 luv her😅
This was FUN!!!! There’s NOTHING like the older SNL!!😂🤣😆🤣😂🤣😆🤣😂 The show, for at least a decade or 2 - STINKS! Not 1 bit funny anymore.
Thanks for this vid MsMojo!! Keep the FUNNY coming!!! 🔥🫶🏼
Loved this brought back so many memories 😅😂hahahaha
