Ben The Coin Geek
Old Pueblo Coin
Hi, Ben. There is a texture in the field of the fake. The field of the genuine coin is smooth. *TYU*
I got took on one of these last year a 1873cc. It was a very good fake. It was in that low Vf range and weighed 26.9 grams so it was in the correct range. Also it was silver and had the correct measurements. The denticles were a bit off though and the rim didn’t seem correct. Needless to say it came back Pcgs counterfeit. It was a amateur moment for me and embarrassing 🙈 I’ve learned my lesson at least and I’m very careful with Trade dollars
So the value of authenticity is specific to where it comes from, sir
I could tell in the first seconds of the video the 1878 was counterfeit. It's the pitting in the feilds and lack of detail that gives it away. It was copied from an original coin and you see the molding sand used when they did this in the coin.
Indian silver and Indian gold is so beautiful; the craftsmanship is amazing! The designs are so elaborate and intricate.
Informative video. There are so many methods of counterfeit. I'm not confident about detecting them reliability and stick with graded coins for that reason. Thanks.
I just found one in my drawer and like you said it’s hard to tell when they’re from the same time period 😏
Always informative, thank you for your time.
The one on the right is a cast counterfeit. Granular surfaces.
I have a few of these all with the correct silver ring when struck need to get a scale to weigh them
Excellent info
I thought you were pulling our leg when you called the Sigma an Omega. A sigma is a great investment for detecting fake bullion, but it can be used for coins too. Thanks for the tutorial!
Sangat suka melihat koleksi koleksi koin kuno khususnya trade dollar.dan saya sangat ingin mengecek koin saya trade dollar 1873s.
Good video. 👍
Thx
I could tell right away the eagle on the right looked like he was starving.
i have trade dollar coin but i cannt identified if its real or fake because some of the letters are erased
I have an 1840 Carson City tree tower doesn’t have silver in it on the back it has a banner in God we trust, and it looks brand new almost
Hopefully coins like this (trade dollars) will be valued fantastically due to their rarity and travel history.
can someone price check my 1871 trade dollar? i dont know how much should i sell it for
Seems to me that once you established that the weight was off it was Game Over for the counterfeit.
You didn't even try a magnet test on it. Magnets being much cheaper than Sigma testing.
i love my trade dollar
Did you forget the magnetic test ?
Of course, the counterfeit wasn't struck, but cast, shown by all the raised bumps all over the surface.
do the sound drop. "sound money" 🥈😀

The rarer the coin the more likely the true metal will be used in a counterfeit.

I knew Morgan’s are faked and now will be considerate of Trade Dollars. Any other commonly faked issues? Seated Dollars?
