That opening mis you recounted is the biggest reason I say not to take long shots with a bow. I almost missed my first bull because of that, at 30 yards even. Aimed bottom of the lungs/heart area, and barely caught the top of the lungs when he ducked.
I've been there. He grossed 218 yet someone else took him during rifle season. I watch grow from a fawn to a 9x7. Main frame 5x5 with extras. Had to take his son which is the buck in pic
We actually taped him out at 204" when we killed him. He was taken to a couple Horn Measuring shows following the season, and that's where he was taped out at 209. So in fairness, we didn't actually tape him at 209, somebody else at a show did. But he's a big deer nonetheless
