This song has probably been playing non-stop on rock radio stations since 1991.
Most definitely
Yes sir! And it will never get oldđŻđ€đŒ
A song playing non-stop on a station for thirty one years...
I hear this damn song 4 or 5 times a day.
na floresta do caralho, gabriel pula de galho em galho
This album is one of the most important musical contributions of our time.
Also, this is my favorite Nirvana song!
@@jamellelangfordiii3586 Mine too. I grew up on this album.
@@kyleg334 honestly, when this came out. I was not into this kinda music, more like I wasn't exposed to it even though I am from the Seattle area originally. I didn't start listening to heavier type music until I hit high school. I was like, "What am I doing with my life that I never heard this stuff!?". By that time though Kurt was dead and I was playing catch up. Luckily I had a really good friend who was way into music to kinda show me around. That is why I love these reaction channels. How do you know if you don't like something if you never hear it? These type of channels bring a lot of people to a lot of different music. Love these two for it!
Haha fair enough. This was my obsession as a kid lol
I haven't listened to the whole album for probably 25 years and as soon as this song ended I heard the opening guitar riff for Come As You Are starting in my head lol
truue!!!
Yup. "Bum bum bum bum... bum be bum bum bum bum bum bum be bum..."
Most kids today will never experience a whole âalbum.â
25 years without this album is a crime
@@catsaregovernmentspies ...against humanity.
She's such a rocker at heart. I love it.
This is BRAD'S SONG! He likes all the pretty sounds. He likes songs he can sing along to. He's a 2A enthusiast. And he's reading the lyrics intently trying to figure it out. And ends every reaction with, "I don't know" what it means.
@@danielwarrenguitar I think some of the people who make these lyric videos are not native English speakers.
@@danielwarrenguitar because that's what he's saying.
Comment of the Week. You heard it here! đ
@@Xeroforte yeah "knows not what it means" is the lyric (it's in the album's liner notes if you want proof) and it's correct English - a little unusual sure, but you've probably heard something like "forgive them for they know not what they do" before
For all the dodo head frat boys who went and saw Nirvana. People who are looking for literal explanations of songs. Use your brain. You don't have to understand it today.
When Nevermind was released, it was like a breath of fresh air. I sang to 'In Bloom' literally hundreds of times. Great song. Great album.
You sing that pretty song without knowing what it means.
@@gsly6081 Admittingly, at first I did sing to this song (as did millions of others), without diving deep, if at all, into its lyrics. As I got older, as with most groups I listened to (Pink Floyd), I began to understand how genius these songwriters were. 'In Bloom', in my opinion, doesn't have definitive lyrics. It's been interpreted in many ways. That's the magic of music. You can ask 1000 different people the meaning of a song and you may get 1000 different interpretations. The song was maybe about me, initially! And maybe now it's about others. But I still listen to it. I still sing to it. Maybe it was just a big misunderstanding....đ
@@paulg123 Everyone sings it without truly knowing what it means.
@@gsly6081 Well, I can't speak for everyone. I'm just sharing my experience with this song.
@@paulg123 What i'm saying is, noone knows its true meaning. I don't even think Kurt knows..
Always feel like listening to Nirvana in the 90's for the first time, was like listening to the Beatles in the 60's for the first time! One of the greatest Rock albums ever! This Album was the beginning of the end of Hair Metal!!!
Agreed. That fresh, that important.
"Lounge Act" is a must hear, best Nirvana song IMO
That, on a plain and aneurysm are probably my top 3.
That and territorial pissings are the top tunes on nevermind I think
@@bassacoustic1549 Aneurysm is f ing dope
@@nealesmith3700 especially live. The reading 1992 version đ
@@bassacoustic1549 bro I was at Reading in 92. Went home on the Sunday after L7. It was raining on the Thursday and the Saturday and me and my friend had no tent. I was only 18. What a dickhead I am. Never got another chance to see them. I was at Reading in 91 too. Never saw them there either. But I got the Reading album. Great show.
In 92 I was on a Sonic Youth concert at a smallish club (Aladin) in my hometown Bremen (Germany) and Nirvana was the support band and none of us had heard of them before, and yes they rocked.
A few months later they where one of the biggest band of this era.
Just happy that I was so lucky.
They were already big in the states, Nevermind came out in 1991. Bleach their first album is also good
Brad is literal-minded, Lex is out there. It's a strong combo.
I'm both and it fucks with my own head.
@Yeltnerb 1 yes but sometimes lyrics are literally just for fun and donât require a deeper look. Not saying this is one but, he has reviewed a few where I desperately wanted him to just chill lol
Nirvana Lounge act, is a great song!
I was in 6th grade (1991) when Smells Like Teen Spirit dropped. Little did I know the music industry was sitting on a fault line. Whether people like it or not, Nirvana was one of the biggest music industry shifts of all time - up there with Elvis, The Beatles, Vietnam, and Michael Jackson.
I was in middle school when grunge took off and we used to make fun of hair metal, but as an adult I rediscovered all that 80s stuff I used to hate and loved it. Both 80s and 90s were amazing.
I know it's hard to imagine now but "Smells Like Teen Spirit" sounded like nothing my friends and I had heard before. I went and bought the CD right after hearing it. And it's still in my listening rotation to this day...
Nirvana was fulfillment of the 1980s American Underground.
well put
Pearl Jamm and Sound Garden too
Heâs so analytical. Sheâs just jamming like hell to Nirvana. Love this!
One of Nirvanaâs greatest songs, and a personal favorite of mine.
Dave on drums AND those super high harmonies in the chorus!
Thatâs not Dave on drumsâŠThis drum track was laid down by Chad Channing before Dave was hired
@@ralphdougherty1844 I'm pretty sure Chad wrote the drum parts, but Grohl played them for the recording.
@@ralphdougherty1844 Not to be a super nerd about it but yes, Chad wrote the part and there is a demo with him on it, but the drums played on Nevermind were 100% Dave.
Kurt is doing the high harmony. Dave probably did it live but on the album it's all Kurt.
@@astro2691 actually if you watch "Classic Albums: Nevermind" or search for "Recording Nirvana's In Bloom Butch Vig" there's an incredible video where Butch breaks down the recording and who is singing the harmony.
Lex needs to have her own channel where she just talks about analogies of everything about everything.
Example
In Bloom = middle school fruit loop breakfast rituals.
The world needs this.
That analogy.....was hilarious!!! haha đ€Ł
Always food related đ
sounds nice but Brad is needed to translate or express our confusion because her doing that for a long time would drive someone fruit loopy
Agree 100%!!! She's awesome, and no matter how off the wall her analogies are.... they're SPOT ON!! As soon as she started describing being tired in the morning and then taking your first bite of Fruit Loops.... I got it immediately!! Love her!!!
This has got to be one of Nirvanaâs very best songs. So well done đ€đ»
When Brad was smiling listening to the song but also with a perplexed look on his face, I actually thought that he thought the song might be about him, and it was messing with him. Because the song lyrics are about people listening to songs and not knowing what they mean, and you guys do that in a way.... so I thought he was tripping out... lol ...
The drums right up in the mix are stunning.
Lex needs to write music reviews, she has the most unique takes Iâve ever heard đ
Lex really listens to songs, takes in the music, the vibes. Interprets it. Brad spends too much time overthinking if he recognises the song or not and doesn't relax into it. Then never really has an explanation or an opinion. Ya'll are so fucking different lol
Never overthink nirvana lyrics ...just go with it
So he's the head and she's the heart?
Brads smile is priceless, You get the mood dude đ¶
she is so much in tone with nirvana. its not about making total sense, although there is many under to his lyrics. its the mood and how it makes someone. as teen say now a "vibe" nirvana was a "vibe"

I love how Lex asked if that was Dave Grohl on drums.đ€ Gotta recognize greatness!!
And sheâd be wrong if she said it was DaveâŠThatâs not Dave on drums. Thatâs Chad Channing. This drum track was laid down just prior to Chad being fired. Dave hadnât joined the band yet.
Interesting point. The original recording in April 1990 featured Channing, but Butch Vig had them re-record the track in May 1991 for the album version. The arrangement was left mostly unchanged with Grohl, per Wikipedia, "staying close to what Channing had played." Yes definitely Channning's chops but copied by Grohl!
@@ralphdougherty1844 wrong actually, chad created this drum pattern however this recording on nevermind is dave on the drums.
Always loved Grohl's fills in this song. That and Cobain harmonies at their best.
The way the major key chorus comes in after the minor key verses and chaotic solo really works.
I love how she gets into the song she has a open mind
Kurt is a legend. You might also like Sonic Youth, which has a similar sound considering Thurston and Kurt were friends.
Sonic Youth encouraged their label to sign Nirvana, which they did. Nirvana was only expected to sell a few hundred thousand copies of Nevermind, slightly more than sonic youth had sold of their major label debit, Goo. Instead they sold over ten million.
Sonic Youth, Pixies, REM, and Husker Du all began inventing the 90's in the 80's.
Great band but not so sure they sound that alike
There's definitely some synesthesia stuff going on with Lex. She seems to be on a constant mild psychedelic trip. The ways she describes sound and atmosphere. Absolutely amazing.
It is sooooo hard not to air drum during this song! I love the way it builds and then explodes, much like the subject matter.
I love this song...the chorus is the best ever
One of their best songs for sure. Thanks, cats.
The energy is beautiful.
This song was on the original âRock Bandâ back in 2007/8
Love watching you on your journey, while at the same time bringing back great memories of growing up with everything you're discovering now!!!
âïžđđ€
I actually bought this on vinyl for my Son in Law last Xmas.
If someone asks what is "Grunge Music", just play them this song. Definitive.
The Lyric, "He's the one who likes our pretty songs and love songs that likes to sing along and likes to shoot his guns, but you don't know what it means" It's about all of the pick up truck driven tough guys in high school who used to beat up on Kurt and make fun of him, And are now banging their head to his songs
đ
Knows not...
Yep
Sometimes I wish I could go back and hear Nirvana again for the first time with fresh ears. After the Sex Pistols they were probably the first band whose album/s I listened to on repeat.
Just love those hard hitting drums, harsh distorted but accurate and controlled and melodic/ harmonic guitars with the variation in chord changes between angular (Kurtâs word) and softer, and powerful deep guttural snarling vocals (which contrast with the smooth quiet sections in the Nirvana songs). I never worried too much about the lyrics just sang along and let them sink in slowly, sometimes reading the lyrics sheets to get them right.
I have so much fun watching your reactions, especially Lex, I like how she catches and feels the music right away, and considering they're both sitting, she is expressing it mnostly through her upper body movements, but sometimes it's just too much emotions at once for her pretty head :-)
This song perfectly shows the way Kurt Cobain wrote Musicđ¶ in the soft than loud and soft again style of writing his songs, RIP Kurt
Which Cobain stole from The Pixies who were the band that defines the soft/loud/soft style. The Pixies came long before Nirvana and the others and never get the recognition they deserve
Using huge contrasts for effect
@@flyingburritobro68 that's a close minded perspective, contrasts like these are an essential part of music. Nothing Pixies have Invented. Been used by musicians through all ages. Classical music for example
the drums in the recording is in fact Dave Grohl but Chad Channing (One of Nirvana's ex drummer) is the one who made up the drums in In Bloom and that drum fill is one of Channing's signature drumming fills
Chad Channing is an extremely underrated drummer
In my mind Nirvana was the last great rock band that changed music
Dave is also the one singing in the background with Kurt, his voice is so similar it sounds like a doubling of Kurt.
Off brand cereals are never the same at all. I remember as a kid, we were poor (and living in trailers) and my mom used to buy the cereal in the bags. I hated that stuff. I begged her to get the real stuff, but she basically said "can't afford it, deal with it." Lol
I can't imagine hearing a Nirvana song for the first time with the lyrics in front of me... back when it came out, I had no idea what he was saying, and didn't care.. it sounded great.. I think they're better to just hear the song at first and check out the lyrics later. You end up focusing too much on his weird phrases and miss out on how awesome it sounds.
I love that you two just love and enjoy so much music.
"He's the one who likes all our pretty songs [...] but he knows not what it means" Nirvana predicted Brad's reaction channel in 1991. đ
and it's like in the morning i listen to hard loud Rock or Rap. it helps me to wake up. coffee helps too.
Right on lex.....love your reaction...so genuineđ„âšđđœNirvana Rocks....
1991. 19 years old. 1st year at university in London (im from the UK west country). Then we came home for Christmas. Went surfing in perranporth at 5 degrees C in the air and the water, bcos we had missed it. Great time to play nirvana on the car tape player and dance to it in the clubs, along with metallica enter sandman.
Epic rock song...a seminal work! Finger on the pulse of its time! Thanks for sharing.
You guys rock!
I remember to listening to this song while running. I would be pacing along, and then the chorus hits....BAM sprinting! It was like I was running for the finish line. I would be out of breathe at the end of the song.
Think this is my favourite Nirvana song also their first song I'd ever heard, remember hearing it on the radio and it blew me away! You need to definitely check the video it's really cool! It starts off all 1950's and then Kurt drags it kicking and screaming into the 90's!!!
One of the best produced albums of all time...the sound on this is 50yrs ahead of it's time. Butch Vig (also drummer for brilliant UK band Garbage) absolutely changed the music scene with his efforts producing this album and made the legendary producers of the time sit back slack jawed, a true masterpiece for the listener.
Binge watching while sick at home. Loved watching lex turn into a nirvana fan steadily over 3 or 4 videos
Such a great guitar solo on this one. Always orgasmic.
Love the way Lex feels the music, true artistic impression.
classic song and at the time it was such a groundbreaking album that shook mainstream radio
Haven't listen to this song in over a decade, but whenever I come back it stands the test of time. Love the sound and feel, never gets old. Still sad he killed himself.
Lex YOU are a whole vibe! I love your examples cuz i felt you on that Fruit Loop thing! đ

I can't wait to hear this song in a cereal commercial now...thanks for putting that thought in my head Lex đđ
lex's explanations are the best hands down!

I did countless hours of homework listening to this band, as well as the other grunge bands from the 90's.
rolling spliffs & drinking beers in my sister's car with friends & listening to "nevermind" (on cassette haha), in my French outback ...

You two are too funny. Loved this. Thanks!
I never got on board the Nirvana train (or grunge train in general), but I'm still thankful for their contribution to sweeping douche-metal out of the rock mainstream for good.
My favorite Nirvana song ever. Just has such a great beat and then yeaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh and then hes the one who like all our favorite songs and got to sing along. Its so catchy.
Love your purple rain shirt! Need to go Paisley Park again soon! I only live about 20min away from it! Amazing Nirvana song!đ
Aneurysm is a good song from In Utero. 3rd Nirvana album
The video to this is worth a look, really shows the sense of humor they had!
Dave Grohl is great on drums! Foo Fighters guitarist and singer, too. And also played drums for Queens of Stone Age for awhile.
Also, don't expect great fancy guitar solos from Nirvana, lol. That's typical from grunge, alt rock and punk rock. Sometimes no guitar solos at all or short guitar solos. Nirvana was influenced from punk rock, most early grunge bands were. Nirvana also used to tour with Sonic Youth back in the days, Check out Sonic Youth! Similar band and highly influential on future alternative rock bands. Alt rock and indie rock used to be very underground (only on college radio and slotted MTV spots late at night) during the '80s, broke mainstream during the late '80s and early '90s. Alternative rock boom in the early '90s.
Opposite of progressive rock with long guitar solos that dominated rock radio the '70s and hair bands that dominated rock radio the '80s.
Thatâs not DaveâŠThatâs Chad Channing. This drum track was laid down just before Chad was fired. Dave hadnât joined the band yet.
Kurt was also influenced by the Beatles and Black Sabbath as well as punk
I was listening to this in my car while you were posting lol.....one of my fav s.đ

Or Serve the Servants, or Territorial Pi..
Milk it! Or Very Ape. In Utero is a much heavier and experimental album.
The screaming in that song blew my mind when it came out.
Love Lex's reaction right off the start :)
This song has the best energy.
That is dave grohl on drums and he also does harmonies on the chorus. There's a video of buch vig showing the mixing setup of the song and a bunch of other songs on Nevermind, its pretty cool to watch. And yeah this is one of my favorite Nirvana songs, Kurt was such a genius.
Smells like Teen Spirit was a breakthrough. Come as you are was like OK, they're pretty good. Then they dropped In Bloom and had me hook, line, and sinker. I felt like they made this song for me. I felt like Kurt Cobain just understood me and what it was like to be a teenager at this time. Obviously he had went through some of same things and felt the same things. I went out and bought Nevermind the day after the video for In Bloom dropped. I played it so much I would have to buy another in just a couple years. I could sing(and play. I learned guitar by learning Nirvana) the whole album through. I think Nevermind is one of the top 5 albums ever made. It still sounds as good today as it did in the early 90s.
Love the shirt Lexâïžđžđ

Classic album.
There it is. One of my favorite Nirvanas. I wish you did the video. They were the Beatles, then they wore dresses, and Novasellic was so Godzilla, Grohl had to sit on Cobain's shoulders to fight him.
The bad sound quality/background noise of the video takes away from the song though.
