Is that normal in Norway? I have never tried this here in Denmark. Sure you can handfeed them if you want, but I never tried it where they just landed on you like a pirates parrot lol.
That is kinda norwegian to begin with. I do live here now for 4 months. And it is kinda the way people are here. Like :" oh bird comes back!" Don't care just resume what I was doing.

@@TheBarser Yes, atleast in Bergen. Eating a burger on a bench alone, that invite atleast 2 of these who sits on your knees xD I might give them some fries when I am done eating. Cause throw 1 of those, and 150 of pigeons and some seagulls will be your best/worst friends for atleast 20 minutes.
@@tigergutt93 Sounds cool with the pigeons, though I am sure people who are afraid of birds will find it to be a nightmare. Seagulls on the other hand are annoying. There is some big ass seagull around here where I live, and they will steal your food if you are not careful.
I love the pigeon guy. He's so gentle with the pigeon and the pigeon is adorable lol. I wish he'd said one could also confide in the pigeon 😂

Hello! As a student of Norwegian, could you tell me why there are two subtitles in this video? I've noticed that they're not really different from each other but as a person that is considering to learn Norwegian I feel quite insecure about that. Which variant of Norwegian should I learn? Will it make it possible to communicate to people on the whole Norway?

@@renanavelino4220 The top one is the dialect one, nynorsk was made by collecting dialects from all across the country to make a more true norwegian written language compared to bokmål, bokmål was based on the danish written language.

Drugs is probably the biggest taboo in Norway. Can't talk about it even with medical professionals if you want to keep your drivers license.

You mean like medical use of marijuana? I mean Norway is Influenced by America quite alot and their legalization has failed miserably so I consider that a good taboo.
The man who said "It depends on who you ask" is 100% correct. I had the exact same thought when I clicked on this video. What taboo is to one person can be perfectly fine to talk about for another person.

I was born in Norway, but moved to the US when I was 8, and told i must only speak English. I have retained a lot but don't have too many opportunities to practice, nor do I have any depth. For instance, I can get my basic needs met, but to have a full conversation on any topic is difficult. The dialect piece at the end is wonderful, and my favorite part. I was born in Bergen and my mother was from there, and my father from Finnmark area, so I most easily understand those dialects, but have more difficulty with other places. I am also enjoying hearing the slang and the language mannerisms, in addition to the topics you cover. Overall, I am loving this series and the opportunity to hear real people talk, thank you so much!

Trondheim Is way far from those places haha also hell expensive, by car it would take a few days to go from Trondheim to Bergen for example.

From Trondhjem to Bergen it takes around 9 hour. Not days.
From Bergen to oslo it takes 7 hours. From Tronheim to oslo takes 6,5 hours.. Maybe you think about the cities in the north? Trondhjem is in the middle of norway. Midt-norge.
It's the same distance to Oslo from trondhjem and from Bergen.
And it's not more expensive there than in the rest of norway. Everything cost the exact same in the country even if you're in trondhjem or other cities. It's not like f.ex US where the prices differ in every state. In my hometown we're only 20.000 people but everything cost the same here as in the biggest cities.
I understand you don't live here bc you wouldn't say it's way expensive.
Anyways this was a video about taboos in norway and people mean the same all over the country so it doesn't matter who you ask here.

I hope you keep doing these interview videos. It's interesting to hear different dialects and how people think while learning norwegian.
It was interesting seeing the difference from the older people (who grew up with more taboo subjects) and the younger people. I think they all sorta agree, but it's a mark of a good video to show the perspective from multiple generations.

0:13 Wow. I have been to that exact same street when I first was in Norway. To the right, we see the Dromedar Kafeebar. It's the embodiment of what Norwegians mean when they say "hyggelig". To the left is the Kaffebrenneri, which also serves very good coffee. If you are ever in Trondheim, make sure to visit Bakklandet, it's so beautiful! (Just watch out for all the little birds that hop around between the chairs and try to collect small crumbs that have fallen down from the plates).
Also to the right, behind the camera, is Brubakken, with the world's first bicycle lift. I didn't manage to use it correctly, even though the natives were very friendly in trying to teach me. :D

@7:58 @simple norwegian wasn't sure what the guy meant about " not misunderstand just to misunderstand". What I'm pretty sure he meant was: To not interpret what you hear in the worst way possible. Like if you say you want less foreign immigration. The worst way to interpret that would be to assume the person in question is racist. But if he is your friend you probably know it might be one of the hundred other reasons.
Edit: when I asked myself what example I could give, this was the only one I tought of. Don't think too much of it.
Yes. I asked someone about it the other day and they said something that made sense also: that he perhaps meant to say that you wouldn't express your taboo opinions to someone who could misunderstand it intentionally, like as in, use it against you because perhaps they have some level of dislike towards you.

In my country you often can’t speak about politic topics with people you know well, because it can destroy friendships.😅

it's sad politics is so important, but still in a way I can understand too.
In my country we always talk about politics with friends and family. But we kind of manage keeping the friendship and it even strengthens our family/friends ties.

Everyone in Norway seems to speak a different language one by one😂
Some of the dialects could almost be a seperate language. One such dialect is Setesdalsk, which has a lot of influence from Old Norwegian.

We have different dialects depending on where your from :)
Just where I live, there are about 5-6 different dialects within an hour radius drive. They are very similar, but you can definietly tell them apart

@@1414yorks Norweigans (from what I've learned) aren't too quick to show emotions/personal feelings, and sometimes distance themselves from strangers, so maybe that's why you felt that way. Sometimes you have to learn the culture first so you can kind of read between the lines.

I like the diversity of most answers and the eloquence of people. ☺
There are so many great aspects to that kind of culture, being able to handle life so much more easily than judging and making a conversations about others. I wish it was the same in my culture. People like to talk too much about politics, agendas, it's simply draining the mind and the soul and it keeps you always on your feet. Sometimes it's much healthier for you mind to step back and enjoy the good things in life without having to deal with all the hard topics, in which there's never black and white. I love that about Norwegian people, being liberal thinkers on one hand but also more reserved and distant in a way on the other hand, it's beautiful. It's the way I'd like to live my life, more genuinely and reserved. Being a critical thinker and not dwelling in tough questions and emotional turmoil all the time. In my country there's always stress, the news is full of negativity, people tend to feel oppressed by the leaders and with the hot climate outside that affects their overall behavior, they're just confronting and fighting with each other all the time. I've been always the one to observe from the outside and enjoy my little spot away from everyone.

In Norway that is actually public information, you can look up anyone's salary online. But you're right, it would be kinda rude to ask about someone's salary, and I don't think most people care anyways.

From my time in Norway, it was quite taboo to display success or wealth. You're not show inequality, or look like you are better than anyone else. I have Norwegian friends who live very modestly in Norway, and then go to Italy to be flashy. It's hilarious.

Thats why i like the gym - theres no taboos you can say what you wanna say, and you can get any reactions from agreement to mocking, and it's all just fun and honest
I am sure you will get the exact same answers in Denmark. Especially about the jantelaw. I dont really feel that it exist anymore, but a lot of people do. But compared to USA it does exist for sure. We in scandinavia dont hold people in higher regards than others if they are more wealthy. We dont like show offs.

Jeg er britisk og flytter til Norge om 6 uker, så ønsker jeg å få så mye øvelse i å lytte og forsta som mulig.
Da jeg bodde i Trondheim hadde jeg en studiekamerat fra Irland. Jeg trodde først han var nordlending, men så viste det seg at han snakket trøndersk med irsk aksent. Da han kom til Norge snakket han ikke språket i det hele tatt, men lærte seg det fort mens han jobbet på slakteri. Da jeg møtte ham første gang, og trodde han var norsk, hadde han vært i Norge i tre år.

Vi snakket bare på norsk, og etter omkring ti minutter spurte hun meg hvor kommer jeg fra i Norge, fordi jeg hadde en uvanlig aksent. Det er ikke det samme som å overbevise en nordmann, men jeg var da litt stolt.

Engelsk-talende har et stort hinder for norsk-læring i Norge, og det er at nordmenn gjerne slår om til engelsk. Og dersom ens norsk-kunnskaper ikke er særlig gode fra før, er det lett å velge minste motstands vei. Men du ser ut til å kunne norsk godt nok til å føre en samtale på norsk, og da har du kommet over den kneiken. :)

There are indeed two official languages in Norway,Bokmål and Nynorsk. The latter is based on dialects,and is widely used in Western Norway.🙂

The truth is taboo even in Norway! Like all over..
Well, since everything we know is based off of our input - our senses and our perception, the truth is highly subjective. Example: I would say that the earth is round (or, slightly oval-shaped) - but someone would challenge that truth, by saying the earth is flat. But, the truth is not taboo - because we discuss it every day. Or did you think about something particular?

They are the spoken dialect
Only thing I can think of.. Never enter someones living room with your shoes. We have a hallway, where all shoes live xD
I wonder if i come to Norway as a tourist one day and, say, will see an old man sitting on the bench in the park.. if i sit next to him and try to talk to him smth like "Oh, good morning, nice weather today.. how are you doing? I'm tourist here.... nice park isn't it? Do you know or can recommend nice places like this here nearby" I wonder if he will think that i'm just crazy or being rude interrupting his privacy?:)))

You can't really ask someone what their taboos are. That's something an outsider is much better able to identify.
But something which is taboo in all societies is sexual deviancy. Different societies may have somewhat different ideas as to what is so deviant as to represent a taboo, but it is part of human nature to attribute shame to sexuality. Taboo subjects are things you don't talk about because you'd be afraid that the mere mentioning of it would make people suspicious of you. For example: paedophilia. That's just about the most taboo subject there is in Western society.
