Yeah, for any tourists coming, I’d suggest to check out South William Street area. That’s where a lot of Dubliners tend to drink, fade street, drury street, all lovely food options and amazing cocktails. - temple bar is really just for tourists with that tourist prices.

Yes I agree. There are lovely places to visit in Dublin. Malahide Desemne a lovely park and coastline. Portmarnock a fab blue flag beach and coastal walk. Ardgillan park beautiful place with fab views. I could go on. Ask in tourist office and they will advise. Agree driving in Dublin a nightmare the train transport is reasonable off peak periods when people going to work. They will take u out to Dalky (nice resaurants) DunLaoghaire etc. I think u are very unfair abt my home city and for the most part I find Dubliners friendly and helpful. Come'on give us a break. We are not that bad. There are dingy areas in our city like all cities but there are some lovely building, again, inquire.

Im Irish and can confirm that this is a very accurate and balanced account of visiting Ireland as a tourist. We don't get as much rain as many people imagine but it is wise to be preparedfortheodd shower or wet day. I drive a lot in mainland Europe. They drive on the right there. I agree. After the first hour driving on the side you are not used to, your brain accommodates and it becomes second nature. Enjoy our beautiful country and our wonderful welcoming people.

I was dying to ask this question while I was there, but the opportunity never presented itself. We drove just about over the entire island and I never saw one unkept piece of property. Every home looked nice. This might sound silly, but is there some kind of law there making people keep up their property that well? Great and accurate review, I’m Irish.
One thing I’ll say is about rain, is that in the past few years, rain isn’t as prevalent as people make it out. I quite enjoy the rain, particularly in Autumn, Winter as it sets a great moody atmosphere to the country and honesty with the right gear, rain isn’t as troublesome as you think.
Weather wise, I think the biggest issue is wind and overcast days. We get lots of wind being on the edge of the Atlantic. Our average weather is windy with grey skies but the rain actually seems to have stopped for a lot of the year now and particularly in summer our climate has improved, we often get spells of hot and calm weather for much of the summer and weather that’s just a coincidence or global warming related I’m not sure
But if you come any other time of the year, just be wrapped up for the wind more so than the rain I would say, the wind often carries a cold chill for half the year which is my biggest gripe about living here, particularly in those coastal areas you visit a beautiful beach on the west coast on a nice sunny day but it could be impossible to enjoy it at times because the wind is so cold
    Great review Wolter

To read the comments and they are all positive! 🍀When I first started traveling to Europe, I watched videos of "what not to do in [insert country here] and was upset by the number of comments from people about how much they dislike Americans. And then you read the amazing comments here by the Irish and this is why they are the friendliest people on this planet! I loved my trip to Ireland. This is the first country where strangers would start conversations with me (I'm a solo traveler in my 50's). I know us Americans get picked on a bit about this but we are super proud of our Irish heritage even if it was 3 generations back which is my case.

I can’t believe that video was ten years ago. Thanks Mark and family for always having kind words about our little country and being so informed. It means a lot that someone is willing to put in so much effort to offer tourist such a multidimensional take on visiting here. I’m sure you know we’re used to seeing the “leprechaunised” version usually.
I always say for visiting Dublin, don’t spend longer 20% of your trip there. It’s a nice city but at the end of the day it’s just another European capital, it lacks a metro (clunky mismatched LUAS & Dart don’t count) & it’s expensive. Other cities in Ireland can offer a similar cosmopolitan taste especially Galway & Cork. So if you enjoy cities you can also visit those, which have great food scenes, nightlife & shopping also

A very enjoyable vlog. As a Dublin native, I agree about the prices. It's expensive here! Temple Bar is a real tourist trap, our version of the 'strip' with bars and night life, and yes, not so pleasant, or safe late at night. Generally, I wouldn't recommend Temple Bar. However, it has some nice restaurants for a meal out. Another thing to hate about Dublin - watch out for dog poop on the paths, not every dog owner picks it up. Something to love - we have lots of green spaces and it's easy to get out of the city and be in a suburb by the sea. We have some fabulous places to see in Dublin, and I would certainly recommend, if you're in Ireland longer than a few days, to see places outside Dublin. Even if you don't drive, it's easy to get buses and trains to different towns and cities.

Decades ago, when I lived in Ireland, something I heard more than once from different people was, "Ya must remember that Dublin isn't RAYLEY an Oirish city." At that time decades ago, Dublin had the hustle-bustle, and some of the rudeness, of many other big cities. But Cork City ("the real capitol of Ireland") was extremely friendly. And one of the truly phenomenal thing about the Irish back then (and I suppose now, too?) is how extremely well-informed they are- probably due to a real desire to know about everywhere else in the world. This is just a generalization and not always true, of course - but it is something a foreigner will notice quickly. The Irish have a real interest in what visitors have to say.

For one, you almost always spend more time at a location than you think you will, but more importantly the best sites I saw driving through Ireland were sites I stumbles across on accident. So, if your itinerary is too packed, you will not have any time to take advantage of those hidden gems you found.

Came across your video when looking for information on Venice and just wanted to say that as an Irish person this is a really good overview. I live in Dublin and you're right, it's pricey but also very cool. Ireland has unusual weather let's say, we can have sun, rain, sleet and cloud in one day which we think is all quite normal :-) but the review is exactly what people should know so well done, very balanced and accurate.

I love the content you make on your channel, where you always give pros and cons of each place place you go to, especially when you go to Ireland, but next please include the places north of Dublin and Galway, places like Donegal, Mayo, Sligo, Derry Fermanagh, have just as spectacular views, history, places to visit, things to do, Ireland is not just about Dublin,Cork and the ring of Kerry. OK, rant over, keep up the great work.

You're nearly right, it's really all just about Cork hehe Joking of course but all the west coast...my God!!! but I have to get up north this summer with my son. no.1 priority this year with regard to travel anyway.

I love your videos on Ireland as an Irish person, they are a really accurate representation on what to expect for tourists. A tip I learned for driving on the opposite side of the road is that your body should always be closest to the line in the centre of the road. This helps when you pull up to a crossroad and panic on what side to pull out onto. This tip won't work however if you're say, driving a left-side manufactured car in a right-side driving country. But if you are driving a rental it works :)

Your driving advice is accurate, I had an Irish friend say to keep the steering wheel in the middle of the road, which is just a different way to phrase what you said. Picked up car at airport and headed to the countryside, felt pretty comfortable driving within the hour.

Great tip! I also found it helpful to stare at my lane when a car is passing on the right. At first, I was looking at the car and would go way too far to the left and sideswipe bushes or run over a curb. Once I started focusing on my lane then all was good. Cracked me up that the rental car company gave me a scratched up car but once I started driving it made perfect sense.

We just got back from our first Ireland trip and watched your videos about driving on the left. Thank you for the encouragement to DRIVE! It was a wee bit anxiety provoking but we did it and when we go back, we’ll drive again! Thanks for all the advice! We LOVED it! ☘️💕☘️💕
The food was amazing but the people are really what make this county one of our favorite places we’ve traveled to!
