I never noticed these details either. They don't verbally say the new name so it gets overlooked. The only time change to names that gets verbally said is how Clayton ravine is the new name of the ravine. In the last 1990 of the trilogy, movie when Marty "Clint Eastwood" crashes the train, the visual only change to Eastwood ravine isnt missed because the sign is focused in on. That Spielberg is good at stitching together intertwined scenarios
Also in the beginning of the movie you have the clock scene and if you look really Deep into it you See doc hanging from the clock. Its shown in like the First Minute. And i needed to Watch this Movie like hundred time to notice it. Thats what makes this movie to my alltime Favorit
I watched the first Back to The Future again a few days ago and noticed this. At the beginning of the movie Marty’s mom explains how she met her husband after he got hit by a car but later in the movie Marty pushes his future father out of the way of getting hit by a car and instead he gets hit by a car so he changes the future at that moment.
Loved these 80s movies! The attention they gave to detail is awesome! I never noticed the broken ledge. Now it's impossible to NOT see it anytime i rewatch this movie!
Great detail! Wats crazy also is only the main characters traveling in time and who they told know about the changes afterwards.. like how claytons ravine becomes eastwoods ravine.. but does that mean eastwood filmed there or also perished there in an alternate timeline.. lol.. then again some of these ideas are just creative decisions on the whimsical side.
@@NoriMori1992no it isn’t it was a different timeline before they went in time yes a girl said abt the clock but it was uhm something else kinda hard to explain see it only got damaged when they went in time so ur ye-
The new timeline was created in about 1-2 minutes once marty got to 1955 cause he woke up the peabodys and destroyed their pine, but I get what you are saying
Why does everyone keep saying “different timeline”. That’s literally his entire point he’s making. He’s looking for a reason as to why the damage is still there.
Because the multiverse is the one thing that saves these inconsistencies. Personally, I don't believe in it. One universe, where everything is consistent. That means from the start, the world should have been as if Marty had gone to the past because it was his fate to do so.
@@mgordon1100 it’s not the multiverse, it’s just a universe where you can change stuff. That’s it. Trust me, I know more about Back to the Future than anybody.
That is done purposely. You see, because Marty caused his father to become a hero in his mom's eyes at the Under the Sea Dance (and not just a guy who fell out of a tree, which Marty took that spot, so he had to do something) he makes his dad punch Biff at the dance, thus making him a hero in his mom's eyes. ONCE that happened, you see, the time continnumm changed and EVERYTHING got better. The ledge having no damage is a big sign of that. It was an intentional detail by writers, director and production. A. Arden
Oh my God I can't believe I have to explain this to another person. He's not saying it's an error he's saying that after doc breaks it, every time we see it after that in 1985 and in 2015, they included it being broken still. They didn't have to do that they could have easily explained that it was fixed and just left it in one piece but instead to make continuity on point, they included that tiny detail and he's just pointing that out to everyone he's not saying it's a mistake that the crack wasn't there at the beginning
It was Bob Gale and Robert Zemeckis. Watch the commentary and Gale talks about how he and Zemeckis made sure the ledge wasn’t broken in the beginning of the movie. Spielberg was the producer not director or writer. Spielberg’s role in the making of this movie was to get funding, publicity, backing for the movie and he did his part no doubt but the creative forces behind BTTF were Bob Gale and Robert Zemeckis.
I came here to Read numerous different people talk about the twin pine/lone pine part without looking to see that it was already posted ten times. Wasnt disappointed.
In bttf 2 when marty saw the grays sport almanac at blast from the past store, if you look closely you can see marty jean jacket that he wear in 1985 (with all the pins still attach to his jacket)
Marty going back changed history, just like how he hit that one tree when he first got there and because of that the Twin Pines Mall became the Lone Pine Mall
This is when continuity meant something.... I was in the movie/tv industry (2000-2013)...and continuity was terrible...on the majority of stuff I was on.
I also find it funny Marty's mom Loraine in the very beginning before marty travels time, she says how when she was a kid women never chased men and then when marty is having dinner with her family she grabs his leg and suggests he sleep in her room and then even kisses him.😂
I can't believe how many people are also commenting saying it was intentional. That's the entire point of what this guy is saying he's not saying that it's an error he's complimenting how good of a job they did on the continuity by including the broken piece in the clock tower after doc breaks it. Even if they didn't add the broken part it could have easily been explained that it was fixed so the fact that they went through all the trouble to include the broken part in the continuity is something to be congratulated which is what he's doing. Never once did he say this was an error.
Wow something that was structurally broken in 55’ still needs repaired in 2015. Was Hill Valley based on Williamsport Pennsylvania, Williamsport would still have the scaffolding up to make it look like things were getting done.
I never noticed that. I like the time travel changes, but I also like the foreshadowing dialogue like "history is going to change" or "I've never been good with confrontations".
Marty is Docs ultimate experiment All of his experiments are successful and all the different Docs are the same. Changing Martys destiny from being a wimp or dead to being a successful man.
I noticed something also the movie starts Oct 26 1985 which is very close to Halloween yet no Halloween decorations on any houses that I can remember but in November they travel and you see Christmas songs and decorations 😁
There wouldn't be any damage to the clock yet because Marty never went back yet. The time loop had not been created yet because they were still on the original path.
When Marty went back in time he changed the history of the clock tower looks and his parents lives so that is why the clock tower ledge is damaged when he returned form the past
Did you also notice that Twin Pines Mall was now Lone Pine Mall? Pushover George was now successful-author George? Overweight Lorraine was now so-thin Lorraine? Supervisor Biff now has his own company? Marty came back to a different timeline/1985.
When i saw this as a kid, i kept saying he returned to an alternate timeline, like what happens in BTTF2. Pointed this ledge not being broken vs being broken, and also Twin Pine Mall became Lone Pine Mall People started believing me only BTTF2 came out and my theory was explained by Doc
He hasn't altered the past yet. Yes, the clock was hit by the storm. Once they used it to power up the flux capacitor, they started a new timeline. Therefore, being damaged in the new timeline. Now, if you want to get technical, why didn't they end up frozen in space? Just leaving it out there for the physics majors. 😊
Becuase history was changed when he went back , as Doc talk him that every change when you go in past change future . Begining of the movie could not be changed because he used machine later
Of course, an enormous plot hole in a movie which otherwise gets a lot of details right: In order for the sequence at the end of the movie to work, they had to time the DeLorean's arrival at the power cable to within a second or so of the lightning strike. But there is no way they could have known the exact time of the lightning strike to better than a minute or two (based, presumably, on the position of the hands in the broken clock photo from 1985, which itself assumes that the hands hadn't moved at all in the 30 years since).
@user-tg2gd6uj3k but there's no way of knowing that. The clock was stuck at 10:04 but if it was off by even 10 seconds, the timing would have been off.
@@thickerconstrictor9037 exactly, but forget about even 10 seconds! 88 miles per hour is 129 feet per second. Unless the hook on the DeLorean is capable of stretching over 100 feet (tl;dr it's not), then the metal-on-metal contact of the hook and the wire is less than one second. You'd have to time the arrival of the DeLorean at that exact spot to within a fraction of a second of the lightning strike in order for the current to make it into the flux capacitor.
I was actually looking for the damage in Original History 1985 Similarly, I was trying to see if the Café was still a Café in 1985a, after Marty's adventures in the past

That’s crazy dude. But yeah, Doc changed history
So did Marty
Twin Pines Mall changed to Lone Pine Mall because Marty wrecked the farmers pine trees.
Wait, at the start of the movie, they had not yet gone back in time, for them to have broken the ledge....
@@ChrisS0316 yeah it happened near the end of the movie

Alternate time line. Just like Twin Pines Mall changing to Lone Pine Mall. A lot of cool details!
Probably one of my favorite details...that and docs reaction when he's simulating Marty goes back to the future and the model car catches on fire 🔥 😂
Someone beat you to this comment by 4 months
That’s because Marty wrecked the famers trees when he drove out of the barn.

Back to the Future 1 is a classic in my heart forever and ever.

Different time line broo. This 85 was the original timeline. Before anyone went back in time. Therefore it was never broke

In the original timeline the ledge isn't broken, but when Marty goes back to 1955 doc breaks it, therefore the new time is created

Not a surprise like a local government can't make small fixes.
Lol
😂😂 correct
Well, y'see, it's part of our heritage...it'd be wrong to spend money to fix it xD
In the original 1985, Marty hadn't gone back yet, so the ledge hadn't been broken yet.

Mine too I've watched it soooo many times
And who noticed that part 3 the ravine is called Eastwood ravine
Didn't notice the broken clock tower ledge in back to the future movies, excellent detail catch!

Simple - in the original 1985 scene, the clock tower hadn't yet been damaged in 1955.

Dang I wish 2015+ was as good as this

With all those renovations done on the clock tower in 2015, you’d think they’d have fixed that ledge
Marty going back changed history, just like how he hit that one tree when he first got there and because of that the Twin Pines Mall became the Lone Pine Mall
Like 8 people already said this. It's literally the first 2 comments
I put the trilogy in a small box a long time ago that has no space for other movies that come out 35 years later.
It's attention to detail which is very important in a movie involving time travel. In that original timeline Marty hadn't gone back yet.
We miss so many details that affect our lives but don't miss any in a movie .
Doc changed history it didn’t break until Marty went back to 1995. When he returned to 1985 it’s now broken from Doc slipping and breaking it.
This is when continuity meant something....
I was in the movie/tv industry (2000-2013)...and continuity was terrible...on the majority of stuff I was on.

Amazing attention to detail. Seen the trilogy hundreds of times but never noticed that.
In the beginning of the movie Marty had not gone back yet for Doc to break the ledge
Doctor Brown hadn't used the time machine yet so that's prior to the time paradox starting.
Actually thought you were going to comment when Marty looks over her shoulder noticing the extra walking through the scene not scripted...
This ledge in the beginning of the movie wasn’t broke because at that point Marty hadn’t gone back in time yet.
It's a MOVIE,it's entertainment

Marty came back to a different timeline/1985.
The ledge never got fixed.
That's one of the things I did notice and just figured it was common knowledge.
If you take the studio tram tour at universal studios, you pass by the clock tower and it’s STILL broken today ❤
Also doc’s clock he puts in the delorean is about 8 - 10 seconds off
Great scott!
This is less time travel and more multiverse travel
Apparently no one bothered fixing the ledge for the clock tower for 30 years.
It wasn't broken in the beginning of the movie because Marty didn't change the timeline yet. It's really that simple.
He hadn't been back in time yet so doc couldn't of broken the clock in the first place yet
Because Doc broke when Marty went back and changed a little bit of history

Yes. We all did.
The reason it wasn’t broken is because Marty didn’t go back in time yet, which means he didn’t change history yet
Always found it odd that a "poor kid" had designer underwear.
It didn’t happen yet because Marty changed the time line causing an alternate time line

There are plenty changes in the entire movie if you pay close attention to details.
There was a hidden message in the film that manipulating time's return to the past has effects on the present and future.
It means. No matter how much for how long you donate your money... Nothing ever gets done
But did you also know that Jennifer looks at her nail in the first scene. She broke her nail on the tree just before shooting that scene.
They have a different girl after the first one. They did pretty good on the details.
