Wendy, I have a whole box of my Moms material scraps and a whole box of lace. I’m so glad you showed how to do this especially with the spine, I wouldn’t have known how to do that. I have a piece of table runner I started crocheting so many years ago and ran out of the crochet string and couldn’t find it so didn’t finish it. Now I am thinking to use it on a journal cover. Thanks for your inspiration and your how to instructions. What fun times for your grandchildren, you are making memories with them. TFS! ❤️

Oh, Wendy, thanks a bunch for showing how to make the curved spine!!!!! And I like the upholstery cloth -- it's beautiful. Laughing at myself big time: in my head, I had built this curved spine technique into needing some kind of a Rube Goldberg device, and it's glue, fabric, paper, and fingers. LOL

When my daughter was four, she caught something from daycare called "scarletina." It closed the whole daycare, and we dropped her off at Nana's of course, as we both worked. The doctor called Nana later in the day and my daughter was quarantined at Nana's house for ten days!! She was miserable, of course with a fairly high fever and a red and sore throat. Needless to say, Nana earned enough stripes for an entire year, and then some!! Aimee recovered beautifully of course.
These journals are so great, because they more that they are handled, the better they get.
This was the perfect video for me. I have some beautiful upholstery fabric that I bought to make a cover, but I haven't figured out how to do it yet. Now I can just follow your instructions. Thank you! I think I'll use a dowel when curving the edges of the spine. Hopefully, it will work as well in real life as it does in my mind!
Wendy, I really enjoyed watching you make this cover 💛 ok I hear you on the grandchildren. When we were young...and it was our job to care for our children was so different. My husband and I get so exhausted! It is fun though 💛

I didn't have any trouble understanding each step. You explained everything in detail & I thought the visuals were perfect. I learned some new things, like sewing the lace to the cardstock first and the easy way of doing the rounded spine. I've always been so intimidated by that but your way gives me hope that I can do it myself. Thanks Wendy 🌹

Wendy, it is nice to watch you now knowing your environnement! For the spine, you could put your cover on a big shower curtain rode while drying or on your towel rode where your patchwork kilt is as it is a square one. So the spine would take a square orrounded shape from the rode just by itself. Have a nice we.

Hi Wendy. I always love watching you create. I wanted to share a though with you. Maybe you could try using a short piece of pole about the size of a broom handle to help you form your curved edges in your spine. Thank you for all you do!

Easy to follow your process. You have a nice way of explaining....not too slow or fast. New to junk journal and new sub for a couple of months. Learning much from your videos! Loving this! I was thinking I might try cutting paper towel rolls for a curved spine. They are a bit flimsy so maybe 2 or 3…I knew I was saving them for something! Thanks for showing us your beautiful work!

For a rounded spine i cut a paper towel roll in half and flatten it a little. Lovely piece of linen. 😘

Great tutorial!👏🏽👏🏽 I know this video was not recorded during a live, but it almost felt as if you could hear me and your other subscribers oohing and ahhing (I actually said out loud, no, it’s too perfect don’t cut it!) over the first piece of fabric you tried on the cover corner pocket which caused you to say you weren’t quite ready to cut it yet!👀🙌🏽 I have pieces I purchased specifically for journal making, however, every time I pull them out I just pet them for a bit then put them back away.🤣😂🕊🥰🙋🏻♀️💜tfs

Beautiful fabric for the cover. The process you use is easy to follow and I want to give it a try. I like the way you curved edges on the spine. It nicely softens the look of the cover. 😊

You are such an encouraging creator, Wendy. You offer a way of doing something that works well for you, but never make it sound as though it's the only way. Indeed, you seem to encourage viewers to try things they might come up with themselves. I appreciate this, particularly given my low vision as I often have to 'get creative' to accomplish what seems like the simplest task. Much easier for well-sighted people. I do have a question, Wendy, that I hope you'll discuss sometime. I remember when I started watching your channel your journals were all hard covers make (I believe) according to the Nik the Booksmith courses you took. They were, of course, beautiful and beautifully made. I wonder what has affected your decision to (or so it seems to me) transition to the soft-cover type journals. Again, this is a question about evolution of styles, etc. It is in no way meant to be critical or controversial. Just my curiosity. Thank you, Wendy.

Fabulous material Wendy and I love the video. I make my covers the same way but to curve the spine I use a rolling pin. Wrap the middle around the rolling pin and roll it through your hands it works for me xx

Hi Wendy, maybe the inner tube of a paper towel roll might help create the curve you need. Just a thought.
Hi Wendy, I don't know if you will see this comment/question. I am going back to re-watch a few of your videos which explain how to make the soft fabric covers because I am getting ready to make my first one. My question is - why did you use the extra paper in the spine for this one when your older videos don't use any cardboard or paper along the spine? Is it because of the nature of the "tab" journal? Thanks if you see this and can answer me. Love, love, love all your videos. So helpful and inspiring. ❤❤❤

I love it! You explained quite well, even for my sometimes dense brain. I had to laugh at that greeting fabric, I have the exact same fabric and I just love it. Do you think this would work with a lighter piece of fabric than the canvas? That’s one fabric I don’t have. I’m sure I did at one time because I remember purchasing some. But I must have used it. Thank you so very much for sharing this wonderful process with all of us. Excited to start the journal part of this. 💕🥰💕
It definitely can work with a lighter fabric. If you found it flimsy after it dries you could add another layer of interior fabric ❤❤

My son uses a steamer and anything round when he is shaping the visor part of caps- I wonder if that would work for adding a curve to the spine? He just steams it briefly and holds it around the object he is using to shape it (I thought a rolling pin might work for a spine). Those lace decisions were tough! 😉

I was thinking if the bubble along the spine doesn’t come out just flip it over so that the back cover becomes the front.
