David Garrick (29 January 1947 - 28 February 1985), better known by his stage name David Byron, was a British singer and songwriter, best known in the early 1970s as the lead vocalist with the rock band Uriah Heep and recognized for his charismatic stage presence and his operatic voice.
He was the original singer of the English rock band Uriah Heep between 1969 and 1976. David Byron sang on ten Uriah Heep albums: Very 'eavy Very 'Umble, Salisbury, Look at Yourself, Demons and Wizards, The Magician's Birthday, Live, Sweet Freedom, Wonderworld, Return To Fantasy, and High and Mighty. During these six years David Byron gained a reputation with his operatic vocals and harmonies as one of the best rock vocalists and frontmen in the world.
Byron died of alcohol-related complications, including liver disease and seizures, at his home in Berkshire on 28 February 1985. He was 38 years old.

So sad he died so young this one. I always come back to this song when life reflects back at me at peculiar times, tonight was one of those times. Always love it so

Какой кайф слушать эту вещь спустя 54 года!
It's unbelievable this time that so young men could write the songs of such deep philosophical sense. Unbelievable.
True. Very poetic. I like the lyrics. Uriah Heep always best in lyrics
@@abdullatif-mt5czmay be pink floyd's lyrics also.
From 1968 through1978 I had the pleasure of playing in prog rock bands. From Doors, Hendrix, Cream, Vanilla Fudge and others to playing in a 9 piece horn band from 1969 to 1974 playing Chicago, Blood Sweat & Tears, Sly etc., it was such a great time to be a musician. We played 4 - 5 nights a week from 68 to 78. The first Heep song we played was Gypsy. It was in 1970 in the horn band. We didn't ever want to pigeon hole the band as a horn band and not play popular music from other generes. We covered a number of Heep songs including The Park. With nine people in the band we had 5 lead singers and we had all vocal ranges covered. This was one of my favorite Heep songs and I loved to hear it and play it. It was a hard song for people to dance to although most would slow dance until the time change and break towards the end of the song. Saw Heep live at the Civic Theater in Akron Ohio in 1973. They did The Park and the vocals were dead on, as well as the music. If you haven't listened to any of their other albums, check them out. This was a great band, with a very unique style. Ken Hensley was an excellent writer and singer. Check out the song Rain. It is Hensley at his best vocally.
Les Taxus I will check it out! Thank you for the story you shared! I like it a lot when I learn about music history and especially when the guy who narrated it was once musician himself! Have a nice day 🌺

Beautiful song!
Heard it Yesterday in my fathers car.
Hahaha ! Very nice! I'm glad you liked it
One of those rare classics... They take music to another dimension needless to speak of his singing talent.... It's sad Uriah Heep never got as much acknowledgement as they deserved for being so innovative and on fusing rock with classical... They may have been called the poor man's deep purple but that is unfair for this is the era that heralded progressive rock at its best... And Utah desire their longer up changes have produced some timeless classics, this being one of them... An absolute in anyone's classic rock anthology...
Em wali I totally agree with you!! I saw them live here in Greece this winter and I have to say that they belong to the pure rock souls of the golden decades of classic rock ! I wish I had the chance to see David Byron on stage once in my lifetime 🙁! His unique voice causes me chills every single time... ♥️!

This song in which the group uses the melody of an old Bolivian Christmas carol, anonymous? called? "Nacimiento", and features progressive rock in the band's first foray into large-scale composition . Hensley continues to collect royalties, despite it not being his subject.
i love this - and wonder if the 3 females @5:29 are the vocalists in this
This is something that I don't know but I could say that it makes me wondering 🙂! Nice thought
No female voices …… just the unique UH harmonies!
Urian Heep не Хэнсли лидер а Байрон и Лоутон
Ну и ну...
Thank you, will remember Nick
Bolivian Andean music, plagiarized by Uriah Heep.
Hm...in a way you are right, UH stole the melody...and made it better than the original...even much better than Wara did the song. UH even apologiest to them...
