I am currently, taking two different UX Design Certificate courses and a Software Engineering course. I don't know where I fit in -- in the tech world so I'm exploring. Although I am thinking about abandoning getting a certification in Product Design... So, it's interesting to see that you went from software engineering to UX design.

I really enjoyed learning about your journey. Also, I have to say I admire your hustle and goal-setting. Congrats on pushing yourself to expand your horizons to get the job you want. I liked your points about blogging, posting on Medium, and taking on side projects to build your portfolio.
I felt surprised and a little discouraged when you were saying that UX designers are looked down on in the web development community. This is because this feeling of being disrespected is the struggle that I’m working with in my current path. I am a graphic designer right now, and am in grad school for UX design. Over and over I run into the mindset of how “easy” being a graphic designer must be, how it’s not even necessary, and other things that show a lack of appreciation and respect for my role.
Still, I think I would like being a UX designer, but knowing the pitfalls before I go in is helpful. I appreciated the advice either way you gave of not giving up on your dreams. Basically, don’t pay attention to the naysayers, because they’re not you. I liked when you talked about that.

Great to hear you enjoyed watching this. I hope you got some valuable insight out of it.
When I say that UX designers are looked down on in the web development community, take that with a grain of salt. Within any industry, many roles and positions are ridiculed, especially if others don't understand the complexity that goals into your role. Each position requires a special set of skills, and I hope you continue to push through with your program and your goals, regardless of what others say.

thank you so much for the inspiring video. I'm currently at the exact same shoes where you have been before, as a front-end developer. But, I know my passion for UI/UX design. But, I could only learn it at weekends and I feel not progressive.
How could I contact with you closely through social media?

Thanks for sharing! I am a 15yrs Business Analyst, and being in the UI/UX has been a long overdue for me. And now, I have decided to pursue transition. Hope you could guide me what to train, etc.

Hey Demitri, thanks for watching! If you already have 15 years of experience as a business analyst, you might have a lot of transferable skills already that will help you become a great UX designer. Depending on what platforms and responsibilities you have, I would start by identifying any overlap between the systems you work on now and trying to understand the overlap between skills in both roles as well. This will help you better position yourself in the market when you're ready to start applying.
If you want to transition into UI or UX and don't know much already, it might make sense to look into a Bootcamp or an online course. The Google free certificate course is a good option. There are a few others out there, but you can add me on my LinkedIn if you want a personal referral to a Bootcamp that I mentor at.

From there, you should be aiming to learn enough to put together a basic portfolio (website) and a resume that explains your transition into the field. Your portfolio should contain case studies that you've worked on; a lot of the projects you have under your belt as a business analyst might be applicable and you can talk about them through the lens of UI/UX.
Let me know if you have any other questions!
