- India Bans Rice Exports. Here's Why the Move is Significant | Vantage with Palki Sharma
India has banned the exports of rice. This comes after India previously put curbs on the export of wheat and sugar. Russia's withdrawal from the black sea grain deal has shaken global food market. Continuous Russian missile attacks have damaged Ukraine's food grains and port infrastructure. How will this impact the world? Palki Sharma tells you more.

I used to think that free market was the way to go, but recent events have shown that countries must protect their own farmers. Food security is national security.
Of course it is a national security matter, if you don’t believe ask VENEZUELA 🇻🇪 CUBA 🇨🇺 SIRIA 🇸🇾 RUSSIA 🇷🇺 and even CHINA 🇨🇳 I believe all nations need to satisfy their own food needs, because now we see that many nations are using economy as a BIG weapon to kill everyone in their nation , so yes FOOD it’s a NATIONAL SECURITY!
Its a stupid move, this will ensure shortages and rice prices will go up. Free market is superior. Govt bureaucracy is always inefficient. This woman is a stooge.
If not the free market what do you suggest. Communism showed it didn't work trying to control production and distribution. Counties in Europe have tried to over control production and distribution and they are having problems.

India has banned only the export of non basmati rice. Basmati rice is still being exported in large quantities. This should be more than enough to satisfy the rice demand in international markets.
Basmati is way too expensive than others, so yes we are not disrupting revenues. Point to be noted is the % of non basmati consumption in international markets vs basmati
@crossborderconnect8307 , In the USA, people mainly use basmati rice because both basmati and other rice cost almost the same.

@@thomashunter5645 We are talking about fears of Global inflation and hence it is important to note 77.5% of india's export internationally is non basmati
Actually, in US 20, lbs of Basmathi is about 20 dollars, and other ones like Sona Masoori is about 15, which is not much different in price. I am quoting Cistco rates. From what I have read before, China made a big stockpile of Indian rice before the expiration of grain agreement in Black Sea. So smaller importers may be clobbered now. In general, while this export ban is a national prerogative, export taxes are less drastic and allow for gradual introduction. In this case, India should start with a smaller export tax earlier, and increase the tax rather than enacting a ban.
Yes absolutely correct
Think in domestic consumer perspective instead of ban if you collect money then business people create a black market and Indian rice grow sky rocket high like tomatos and domestic consumer struggle with rate hike so don't mix money with basic needs here as without rice we can't imagine life in india. If China made such blockage then we must stop exporting grains to China and start export to other countries for this we must have a proper time frame for that sake this temporary ban been used and this is not a permanent ban any more

I am an American. I enjoyed listening to your news cast. I don't have problem with people who disagree with me on somethings and I have no problem hearing them out on their thoughts and opinions. So, O would like to give my opinion on the news piece that spoke about Governor Desantis of Florida. In the U.S. they are trying to push "Critical race theory" in our elementary schools causing the children to be ashamed of being caucasian. No person can control what nationality, ethnic group, or color of skin they are born with. In America there were more white young people than there were black standing and marching in the BLM movement when it first started, not knowing it as a marxist tactic. The huge majority of white people in the U.S. are not against blacks, or browns at all. In fact, many black and white people, especially young people LOVE and Respect one another, because they were raised together, and they do NOT have any where near the hatred that some of both races may have had for each other in times of slavery many years in the past. In the 60's whites and blacks came to understand each other much, much better. No one should feel bad about who they are because of what some people in their particular race did in the past. No one can change that. So, what Desantis is wanting to do is teach the truth of history about how slavery was all over the world during that time. And, by the way, there were many, many white people that worked in the fields, and had to pick cotton too. At one time in history the Scottish had the Irish enslaved to do these things, and there were those who had farms who didn't own any slaves. Plus, there were also white people working on the "underground railroad" in America helping, black people escape to the north. What about them. All white people do NOT think alike and are not white supremacist, like king Charles, and Schab, who disgustingly "think they are all that" "the I'm better than everyone else elites." Whites, like any other race have their pompous pruds. I'm sure there are Indians, as well, who think they are better than others because of their wealth. Elementary children do NOT need to be subjected to these teachings of people who say a 13 year old person has the right to decide they want a sex change without the consent of the parents. We simply cannot have this, it is communist, marxist ideology, tactics being used against Americans to do everything in their power to take our country down. I am proud of Ron Desantis along with anyone else who fights against these insanities. Right is right and wrong is wrong all day long.!
🇮🇳 Charity begins at home❤ 🍚 🌾 🍙
India is done correct thing India should bann exports of every food material unless prices of food materials come below 25rs/kg in our country to us people's
It won't come down. The money goes to somebody.
That’s not how economy works. These bans will push prices higher within India.
What about farmers? They are already victims of low margins or face losses due to high input cost. How do you justify them at 25rs/kg? One sided math doesn't work. Now it becomes an opportunity for middlemen to buy grain from farmers at low cost. It was not an easy decision for the Indian government either. This prohibition should be as short as possible for our own good in later times.
Just as the Middle East can't control oil forever, it can't either, and if it does, it will drive many people away from agriculture. Like every other sector, agriculture sector always needs a better deal to sustain and survive. White-collar jobs cannot give us food security. This is a major problem in India, many people don't know the ground reality, they always expect everything to be cheap or free, even if it makes someone suffer.
This is my opinion from my own experience, however I'm always ok to listen to others!
To leftover chamcha regime?

Very informative and educational again. Keep up the good work, Palki! In Latin America and the Caribbean we do need this reporting. Thanks!!!
Stop 🛑 for everything blame Russia. This is India’s political move toward global dominance.
My dad's family does farming. They started to stop selling the rice since 10 years. We started using our own.....imagine if all small scale farmers doing this.
Slavery is a big business..the masters are money and food
Highest paying job : Cutting ribbons
It is a very wise and matured decision of the government.
Russia and America are doing great job for the humanity
Keep up Great job
😝
🤣
Russians and Americans will be fine, but poor EU/ UK...
Why on earth does Nigeria import any food item from Any Country including India?
Good for the wicked politicians who choose to do cronism rather than grow and process their own food in their respective countries!
The people will not forgive them!
Too many Nigerians
Truth to power! Go girl!❤😍😘
Classic example of how the rich get richer and the poor get poorer..💯
The strategy by India is easily explained: Protectionism! Just like india banned export of PEP products during the SARS COV2 crisis.
India paid heavy consequences for not stopping the pep export in time, look who is nunner two in terms of death due to covid.
When will you come out of the mindset that.......... Only your population has all rights to live comfortably on this earth😂,even after you are the only one who made most of the injustices to humanity on this earth.😂😅
@@mohitcgl9064 Tell you what - you can have Pakistan and Bangladesh back, you'd love that. In return you can give the UK it's education system back. Then you're on your own. Good luck
@@davidjma7226 tell you what........we ourselves are eradicating System that was especially designed to mitigate our culture and heritage........🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Really? after systematic asset stripping of 42 countries for 200 years you are moral posturing ? you can return the loot and take pakistan and bangladesh yourself. They supply valuable immigrants to UK , don’t they?
She is really keel. Very clear and insightfful.
The India government said that the export ban was “to ensure adequate availability of non-basmati white rice in the Indian market and to allay the rise in prices in the domestic market” so now countries will end up going elsewhere for rice
Sure. But where?
Yeah.. India made a bad move. Now South East Asian countries will step up in rice production... We don't have to rely on India already.. When countries make moves like these, when they want to re enter the markets they abandoned, it will be harder for them to compete too😂😂.. So good riddance to India. Let's have more rice from Thailand and Indonesia 😊
That means jasmine rice
Basmati is not as important to India?
@@MrCPPGit is. but since its high quality rice its not the staple rice for people in india since many people cant afford it. its the broken smaller non basmati which is consumed more by people in india.
It's always fascinating to listen to Palki 👍👍
Canada is reported to expect lentils surplus.
We do eat them in US but we have red beans black beans black eyed peas and lentils from Oregon so maybe you can buy some like Turkye. We can also plant more. Conventional and organic
just for comparisons 25 indian rupees in uk money is £0.23 or 23 pence. a kilo of tomatoes in uk is £1.96.
Indian farmers, Hard work, when exports to UK, US/ G7, Let them pay full prices with respect cost of the production and good margin for the farmers.
40$ dollar per 10kg of rice in US 🥴
While india got much much less price like ½$ dollar 🗿
The average montly salary in the UK is about 1700 pounds, how much is it in India? What exactly are you comparing? The cost of living?
@@user-xp5yu3tt2g You still don't see it do you! And you may wonder why all the work is gone. And exports have gone down also.
Keep in mind domestic jobs don't earn a country revenue. Export jobs earn revenue.
@@keibohow69 Indian govt knows it. Right now foodgrain export is not necessary as foodgrain is required to reduce price inside. We can earn foreign exchange through export of manufactured products.
World: how can this food crisis get any worst?!? India: hold my beer 😂
Yeah like you would give away your family ration to feed someone else across seven seas
This truly reflects when it comes to putting India and indians first!
I know you in WION news, u always sharing interesting information with great presentations
Perfect journalist ❤
Zalenski must apologise for food shortages...their action in attacking Russian cost everyone...
So Zalenski is the cause
The clown thinks life is a circus.
British made Brngalis snd Indians die snd took rice for their war snd soilders. India should take care of Indian citizens first. Thank God the government seems sensible
the effects on the global food supply will be catastrophic, in a time like this. countries acting unilaterally is a disaster sometimes especially on important issues such as food security
Only PM of India who thinks about Indians first.
How about Manipur?
@@twocows5785 how about west Bengal 😊😊😊
Manipur West Bengal look by chief minister state government
Wow. This is significant. Concerning. Thanks for covering.
Two things this week which has reminded me of the analogy of putting a grain of rice on a chessboard and doubling it per square. The other thing was realizing how many “man hours” are spent playing downloaded games on phones. “Delay in getting your passport? By 6 additional weeks?!! Oh that’s because everyone is playing games on their phones in the bathroom. Want a “free life” tho?”
What kind of rice does India export? Basmati? If it is, it is a very limited type to be eaten with Indian curries. Most of other Asian foods are not compatible with Basmati.
nevermind! rice is a tokenism for the ricebag west! Let them stretch their wokism about "trade"with India far, and they will find nothing to feed their mouths, not even weed!
40% of world rice export is from India. Just 25 percent of rice exported is Basmati and only non-Basmati rice export is banned.
Non Basmati Rice Variants are banned.
Bro first gather knowledge, in recent times I am compelled to think that most of western people are unaware of what's going on in world. They are most ignorant people and this is going to hurt them
There are 100s of rice varieties and atleast 20 different varieties were being exported.
Palki, my favorite 🙂
Looking forward to hearing about the export ban on rice
I hear basmati rice is not included in the ban, that the more expensives rice types are excluded from the ban
I wondered if it is not only the grain deal being stopped by Russia?
There have been a load of floods in India which must have reduced rice harvests
With this attitude some other countries will have the opportunity window to take over - Jai Jawan Jai Kissan
Could increase the price of basmati price and export too.
yeah so that america can just print more dollars and buy the rice, while our own country's population dies of hunger, and subsequently the opec will rise oil prices, now its our time to take decisions
Indian Government works smartly for its people.
No Indian government is a joke, they are ignoring Manipur issue
except during covid letting people get together crammed like a packed bus to infect each other.
❤very enlightning feed! Thank uou sooo very much
India’s overall exports projected to scale new heights, growing at 13.84 percent during FY 2022-23 over FY 2021-22 to achieve USD 770.18 billion worth of exports.
In our Village tomato price is 300 😢
In our country Population is 145 Crores😢
good on you india, look after your own. wish we would
l think countries should collaborate in regards to the shortage of goods insteads of rising price
