      When kasparov played karpov in 84 lost and in 80s he still had lower rating than fischer, so according to your theory he would have lost even though that's 12 years after and Fischer would have become a human chess machine if he still played. The data you referring is just a BS propaganda kasparov 3000 and Bobby 2600 . And yes he was in his prime when he lost to Kramnik he just his milestone rating what are you talking about? Kasparov would not have any any chance in today's chess, let alone Bobby Fishcer. He even thinks Karpov would have won against Fishcer. Why kasparov would not make it with great players and never win? Because he plays aggressive, and positional wins 10 out of 10, with that play( aggressive) because it allows room for mistakes and you can never play 100% good playing aggressive. Yet kasparov lost to Karpov again in early 90s. It's allright because one day you will realize they only played Soviet players, more or less they werea Soviet champions in my eyes not world champion. Until 92 they only played Soviet players. Then kasparov destroyed chess And played weak players. When chess became more international....,anyways if kasparov lost to deep blue because of human grand master than he was not worthy winning against other GMs. But that was not the case we all know engines can go higher than 3500 And no human mins can calculate over 1 bilion process moves ahead of time so it couldn't have been a GM. Magnus admits it is frustrating playing computers because he hates to loose. It whatever you say he is the most overrated player ever to win championship. Back then communist Soviets would have done anything to keep chess prestige even if it was cheating, pre arrangement on tournaments bribing etc. I am from a former communist cupntry. Party comes before family and God because you are tucked if you don't do what they say. Its funny because when communism collapsed it was only the former communists who became democratic spokesman and leaders supposebly they are anti communist. US tried same thing to control fischer but they couldn't becaus3 unlike ussr in US they have freedom regardless of what we the nosy racist Europeans say of them. Its funny we hate Americans and say how great Europe is when compared not realizing America is one country and Europe doesn't exist because it's a continent with30 countries that all hate each other to death. But yet we have more freedom and are better. US is a Jew country etc. Anyways kasparov the great lol.

Although Kasparov was champion in the latter part of that time time, Karpov was either #1 or #2 during that entire span, much longer than Kasparov. And even when Kasparov was on top, it was still amazingly close. In one series, I believe that after 40 games, there was still no clear victor between them, and the tournament was halted by FIDE, and Kasparov retained the title because the tournament was terminated.

    Fischer and Kasparov were both such assholes, somehow I think Karpov was downgraded in the eyes of the media because he was such a good sport and gentlemanly, and therefore less dramatic. Everyone has their peaks and valleys, and at his peak, Karpov could beat anyone and everyone. Look up the 1994 Linares tournament if you doubt. Playing a young Carlsen here, you are seeing a Karpov who has devoted much less time to chess than he had before 1995, and he is playing someone who he has never played before and who is an innovative genius, even though he is just 13. The former champion is pure class in defeat.

      @iqless7313 Před 9 lety +111

      Steven Battleheart Lol no. At their peak, Karpov and Kasparov both dominated the chess world like no other. When they clashed against each other the results were ALWAYS as close as they can get, so it's definitely incorrect to say "everyone can agree that kasparov is far greater than karpov".
      There's a time when Kasparov was much better than Karpov but that's not until the 2000s when Karpov started retiring from chess since he was 50.

      @@endthisnonsense7202 you don't simply "decide to get lessons" from former world champions : )
      it's not something they do on demand, because someone "decided" so.
      Karpov isn't and wasn't giving such lessons.
      and Kasparov didn't do it on request either - he came with this initiative himself, and Magnus accepted it (and then later on rejected Kasparov's tutolage).
      of course Kasparov was stronger than Karpov overall (not by a big margin), especially by the time Magnus was becoming an elite player (Karpov being older than Kasparov).
      this isn't the top priority for choosing a coach though. stronger player does not necessarily equal a better coach, and that's true not just in chess, but any discipline.
      besides, Carlsen's playing style is definitely more similar to Karpov than Kasparov.

    this just shows how freaking good magnus is. karpov is one of three or four greatest of all time, lost very little ability with age, and magnus beat him at THIRTEEN

    Karpov's reaction is funny, almost admirable in his curious consideration of Magnus's unusual, young genius. He seemed almost excited or impressed despite losing.

      +Ryan Ortega And Spassky was a scary monster too. Did not ever want to take that guy lightly, on the board.
