      The majority of partisans in France were Jews, I suppose. "Brave Frenchmen" have lost the war in 40 days, supported Pétain, and served in Charlemagne Waffen Grenadier Division. I still wonder, why France is considered to be an "ally" in coalition against Nazi. Anyway, respect to your Dad.

      @@dmitryshaykin3784 well, you are mistaken.
      Jews were indeed over-represented within the resistance but by no means did they constitute a majority.
      The French army was defeated in 6 weeks because of terrible strategic decisions, not because french soldiers were not brave.
      France was considered an ally because its territory was occupied and because a large contingent of frenchmen fought with the Allies, in France or in other theater of operation.
      As for the Holocaust, 75% of the jewish population survived, which would not have been possible without an extensive rescue net work.

      @@Judean_Zionist Not all Palestinians are terrorists. And from the perspective of the Nazis, the Jewish partisans in WW2 were terrorists too - but from any sane perspective, those partisans were heroes.
      I'm no fan of Hamas. But given the state terrorism, land theft and apartheid conditions imposed upon the Palestinian people by Israel, I can definitely understand why they exist too. Israel's current war is only making Hamas stronger too - for each actual terrorist they kill, they slaughter several innocent civilians and radicalise another bunch. The current approach can only end in outright genocide or failure.

    The jewish partisans were one of the most righteous causes in human history. They knew that capture meant death (I mean, other partisans suffered the same fate, but the Jewish partisans would suffer a particularly gruesome death). To actively fight so that your very existence isn't denied, that's powerful.
    Eternal glory to the jewish partisans who fought so that their people could breathe free air in the Eretz Yisroel!

    It sounds like an old German song, which is truly astonishing. To be expected, but still. Many words are different, but intonation, sound, rhythm, it's very close.

      @renedupont1953 Před 7 měsíci +3

      You don't know what you're talking about. Yiddish is an independent language, culture and civilization. The melody is Russian/Jewish and has nothing to do with German music. Yiddish phraseology is light-years away from German expressions. What do you know about "old German songs"? Nothing. As far as Yiddish is concerned, you're not qualified. [ This comment has been written by a Yiddish linguist and professor of Yiddish. ]

    • @rot7296
      @rot7296 Před 7 měsíci +8

      @renedupont1953 yeah. Totally independent. Not related to German at all. I obviously don't mean modern high German. But middle high German.
      And although modern Yiddish is obviously a lot removed from modern high German (which I never denied), you can hear the connective past. If you can't, that's on you. Funnily enough, you actually managed to mention melody, the only thing I did not refer to. That actually had a reason, as you so sharply noticed. So, maybe start with reading comprehension before whatever that rambling is supposed to be.
      Also, you are not a German linguist or at least a native speaker, I hope.
