Triple Play is a favorite tradition here at Missouri Star Quilt Company. Once a month, Jenny, Misty, and Natalie each demonstrate their own unique spin on a favorite block, technique, or template. In this episode, the talented Doan ladies show off three fabulous new Block Star quilt patterns + 2 bonus projects.
Jenny's Mini Block Stars quilt is made with precut layer cake squares. Her fabric is Flora and Fun Ten Squares by Subhashini Narayanan for Robert Kaufman, and she uses the scraps to make 2nd project--a sweet pinwheel baby quilt.
Misty's Star Box quilt is made with jelly roll strips from the Tradewinds collection by Renee Nanneman for Andover Fabric. These coordinated stars pop on a neutral background for a look that's clean and classic.
Natalie's Sunflower Stars quilt is a layer cake pattern made with Homemade 10" Stackers
by Echo Park for Riley Blake. These blocks are rounded with snowballed corners, and there are plenty of scraps for a bonus table runner.

I would love to see a triple play where you all use the same fabric but different patterns.
Great suggestion!
Way cool
Awesome idea
Brilliant idea
Oooooo that's a good idea!
My tip…if you have a huge pile of half square triangle to square up and can’t do them in one sitting, cut off the dog ears only after they’re squared. That way when you come back in a day, week, etc., you know where you’re at in the process.
What a great tip!!!
Oh thank you so much for your tip good idea
Great idea!❤
All of the quilts are beautiful. I love triple play. Thank you for your tips and tricks. Jenny you and your family are just amazing. You always make my day.
You would think that after 45 years of quilting this old dog couldn’t learn anything new. This technique, to make small stars, is so creative. Someone may have seen it before, but it’s totally new to me.
This is better than flying geese method
I really like to make baby quilts at least the size of Natalie's quilt. Most parents aren't using quilts in cribs so the larger size is great as a floor play mat and they can still snuggle with it as they grow. All three quilts are wonderful. I especially like the smaller stars in Jenny's quilt and how she incorporated the border fabric in the top row. That caught my eye immediately. Thanks for sharing your talents with all of us❣️
We would stack quilts for our daughter to play on.
Love the quilts!
But I really want to say WOW NATALIE... YOU ARE LOOKIN' SO GOOD, GIRLFRIEND! (How are you losing all that weight?)
I love triple play day….I get so excited to sit and just engross myself in your cool ideas! I think you should have a special deal on all 3 of the patterns as a bundle! I always love each of the projects…but usually have a favorite that I lean towards….this time I just loved them all!
Good idea!😊
I made this by star scrappy using all scraps was darling loved it best quilt I’ve made in a while love it Jenny
Always enjoy triple play. One usually clicks in my brain & then it makes it easier to understand the other two.
😍 ... oooooooh I SO want to do a quilt like Jenny's using Christmas fabric!
Happiness is...
Tired from long day and a triple play video pops up yayyyy 😊
I love going back and periodically binge watching the triple plays. I pick a new favorite or choose an old favorite to start a new project. Right now I am working on Natalie’s Calico Cats, Misty’s hearts and kisses, and just finished Jenny’s black and white with poppies quilts!!
Wow, Nanalie and Misty are so very creative in their methods of changing the appearance and method of the blocks to make their amazing quilts! Jenny, you are blessed with these 2 by your side. ❤️
I love your trio! I'm just finding this video 9 months later and I'm so sad that the layer cake is sold out everywhere and you can't buy the black background border fabric. Sigh. Now I have to throw that out of my mind's eye and find something else I love! But I do love how you 3 work together and demonstrate patterns. So easy to follow and I learn many tricks and trips from you. Thank you!
Once Jenny pointed out the cat shape with Natalie's quilt block, that's all I was seeing! However, I love cats! I have all kinds of cat stuff in my home, and we have two feline family members. It was such a fun episode, the fabric Natalie chose was my favorite. Thank you for the new quilt ideas. Great tutorial.
My first quilt was a log cabin. I made all my fabric into long strips, went to the quilt shop, and sewed ALL blocks at once. I made that queen size quilt in that one day! This video brings back sweet memories!
Hurray!! It’s Triple Play!!
👏🏻👏🏻🥳🎉🎉
I L❤️VE to watch you three ladies working together, to assist each one present and explain her quilt creation! 😍
And the quilts are so spectacular! 🤩
I love triple day. I love you ladies
After Jenny said that about Natalie's quilt looking like kitty heads when I look at it that's what I was seeing and being a cat lover (we have 5 in our house....2 are mine and my husband's, 1 is my daughter's , and 2 are my granddaughter's since they live with us. We had 6 but I had to put my sweet oldest cat to sleep because she had cancer and was starting to suffer 😢) I loved the cat head idea 😊. Thanks again for great ideas from all of you. God bless you all.
I am so sorry for your loss of your kitty.❤🐾
@@quiltta thank you.
Why do I feel like we're friends???? It's because the way you ladies communicate. You make us feel included! Thank you and, oh, Jenny, your tiny piece here is exquisite 😍
I love triple play and everything Natalie makes. She is so creative! Everyone makes a beautiful project, I am just drawn to Natalie ideas and choice of fabrics!
And she is always so gracious, humble, and kind to the other two as well.
All such cute patterns! I use those scraps (that you just have to let go because they are soooo small), to make dog beds for the local animal shelter. I purchase used flannel pillowcases or soft throws from Thrift stores or Goodwill, for the casing. Then the guilt of throwing away disappears! LOL
I can't unsee the kitties now! Cute.
Triple play and star quilts are two of my favorite things! I always love to see how beautifully different each of your quilts turn out to be. Thanks for ALL of the Triple Plays Videos.
These 3 ladies never disappoint!
Jenny’s quilts are usually my favorite but this week Misty’s was my favorite. I love Misty’s at home quilts also. Natalie’s quilts are often my favorite also. I love Natalie’s comments during triple plays. She is so grace-filled. I’d like to meet all 3 women one day but especially Natalie.
Love Natalie's calm, cool delivery. Plus, I want to compliment her new look. Natalie, you look wonderful and younger. Good for you! Looking forward to seeing you often with your creative ways of doing things. Love when you 3 Gals do the triple plays. Love MSQC!!!!!
Thanks for saying it's okay to sew pieces together! I always feel guilty about doing that but no more :)
I would love to make one of each. They are just beautiful ❤
Triple play is my favorite. Beautiful and diverse patterns.
The diagonal seam tape was a game changer for me. After all the years struggling to have consistent quarter inch seams , the quarter inch line on the tape for some reason makes it so easy to have that perfect seam.
It takes a long time for me to make a quilt. It blows my mind how many quilts these ladies have to make.
I didn’t even know Echo Park made fabric. Such a fun thing to know. I loved this triple play. I love them all but Jenny’s blew it out of the park! This was by far one of the best triple plays ever! You all must work so hard to get these to us. I look forward to them! Thank you
I love to watch you girls I just started quitting and I made the chandelier for my first quilt .i watched Jenny make it 50 times 😂
I love the triple plays. So neat that they all come out so different. I love seeing the interaction between you ladies too.
I would have never thought to use the fabric Jenny picked, I love it!
Loved the blocks star.. new to quilting! 3 months. My first big quilt I did a double ring.. turned out great ( I think). Everyone told me I was crazy! Went to 8 different quilt shops to see if anyone could help me with corners.. and no one stepped up.. they have not done one.. so thought long and hard and I turned the pattern back wards and marked them and it worked!! So I would love to see you girls make one! Go big or go home.. ( I did come one with my seam ripper.. but learned a lot!!
Cheri's tiny is rubbing off on you. Love the tiny stars.
Even though I realize the pattern creators at Missouri Star are the true heroes, the “behind the scenes” elves make you three look really good each triple play! I am sure the pattern folks have coordinated with each other!
I always LOVE Triple Play, but really love getting bonus projects 🥰🥰
Love Misty's version today!!
My Friday just got a lot brighter watching all the awesome videos. Misty’s quilt and color combo was my favorite today. Sometimes you need to see a quilt in the right color to want to make it. Thanks everyone!
same! she struck a vibe that makes me want to make that one
I absolutely love how you made the stars ❤️
These all are so nice, but Natlie's is my favorite.
I love all the tutorials, but triple play is my favorite. Plus any thing star!❤️
Boy! These triple plays are wonderful! I love all of the quilts and the extra projects! And I love you three ladies because you help all the rest of us come up with ways to be creative and give gifts that cannot be purchased in a store! Until next time!
I love that fabric, I’m using it now in jelly roll form and it’s so pretty!
Watching at 4:30 am with no sleep yet, this is getting pretty math-y for me, Jenny!
This method is genius for those smaller stars!!
I enjoyed watching this video and especially listening to it while I did my dinner dishes. In no time at all, my dishes were done my kitchen was clean and I had a little more education. Thank you, Don girls.
I am enamored with your BLOCK magazine. especially the one with the pinwheel 3D pattern runner. I am going to make a quilt with pin wheel blockws and two borders separated by a border with the 3D pinwheels in the outer corners and around the center block. I hope itworks out. but it is the happiest quilt block I have ever made. LOVE it. one day try to make a picot block, one with the 3D picots pointing into the squares, it comes out so darn cute.
All i see in Natalies are the cute kitty heads! I love them!
Love Misty's quilt . You could make the dark stars from layer cake 10 inch squares, since measurements exactly match (4-2 1/2 x 10 , cut into 4-4 and 4-6"
Team work you can get that king size quilt for you . 🎉
I will never unsee the cats. Thanks Jenny! 😊
Love triple play Hi from Western Australia thanks ladies
I LOVE the Flora & Fun fabric. I bought a FQ bundle to make a quilt for my daughter's new home. I love all the little critters so I'm going to use a pattern with big blocks. ❤
I love all 3 but I'm partial to Jenny's pattern. ❤❤❤
Yeah. I luv seeing all the fabrics. I had no id😊ea there were so many different types for each states & territories.
I wish I could give 1000 thumbs up! I LOVED this tutorial! But of course, now I'm addicted to the "Triple Play"! 😊
Love love love these quilts. And the bonsuses to boot. Can't ask for more. You Doan girls are amazing!!!
Natalie I just purchased your fabric choice for a baby quilt I’m doing for my nieces baby!
I love the sunflower quilt. The yellows!!
It is such a beautiful quilt with an amazing way it all goes together!❤
Wow, ladies, this was a fantastic triple play ! Thank you for sharing 💖
You always amaze me how all three are different without knowing what each other us doing. Love them all as usual.
Thankyou for sharing from North Queensland, Australia
My friend recieved your pattern and material in her Christmas box. I have been making the design with my own colour choice of fabrics. Very happy with the tutorial. Seamless effort from the three of you. Love your triple play. So many great ideas to choose from and encouraging to attempt new ideas, Thank you all ladies.
I personally loved Jenny’s quilt best
I love the small stars.
I love your quilts Girls! Especially Natalie”s. I love yellow!
All these quilts are so so cute.
Not sure which one I want to make. They are all three wonderful ideals
You three are not only beautiful but so talented. I love each and every one of them. I like large baby quilts too and one of the reasons I started sewing. At baby showers all the people who sewed made larger receiving blankets and blankets one a baby could use into toddler age. Love this thank you!
I loved all three quilts.
Love the baby quilt idea thank you so much
TRIPLE PLAY DAY 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Loved it. I was wrapped in my Block Star quilt that I made from your original tutorial while I watched this triple play.
That is just so darn clever! Im going to make one of those star quilts!
All three of these quilts are wonderful! I’m not sure which one to make first. ❤
Great stars! So fun.
Can’t wait to make them. Thank you Ladies ❤
Thank you LAdies blessings from Queensland Australia
Jenny, If you make that one quilt for your bed, can you show us your process ? I would love to see you do that. Thank you all for the Triple Play. I just ordered all of the patterns.
You ladies are so smart and so very beautiful! Thank you so very much for showing me how to quilt!!!❤❤❤
I just finished making three queen/king size block star quilt tops. I love these new variations.
It's always a treat to see what you are going to make next! Do you ever provide pattern info for making your quilts if a person wanted to use Accuquilt dies instead of hand cut everything? I would love to see this on you beautiful patterns.
Very cool, easy way to make stars!! I love it!! ❤
Love love love triple play and these quilts. Happy quilting from Canberra Australia
Just ❤ the wonky stars out of old protea pattern half curtain that i had 😂😂😂 and now got another one for bags of fun for gifts❤❤❤ thanks so much😊
For the last baby blanket and the extra project it could be a changing table blanket. Or changing pad . Just what I would use it for. Lol thanks for the idea
They're all so pretty, I'm torn! But, Natalie, when I make yours, Im going to embroider kitty eyes (closed, with lashes) and whiskers on one of the random 'cat faces'....too cute! ❤
Thank you for fighting the math out for us ladies! I’m obsessed with this block snd move all three ideas!!
All great as usual! The first thing I thought of when I saw Natalie's quilt was cats! Would make a cool Halloween quilt. 🕷
Another wonderful video. You are all so creative! Three beautiful quilts! I really love that you show us how to use our scraps. Fabric is expensive and being able to make the most of it is fun and frugal. Thank you again, you are so much fun!
I know you showed us the entire quilt but I would have liked to have seen the individual block that we are learning to sew.. thank you.... of course we know your quilt is absolutely gorgeous.
Loved all these quilts but found Jenny's quilt "confusing" but then I'm terrible at math. LOVED all the quilts though ... look forward to MSQC tutorials on Friday morning!
I already have the Triole Play Book, but I would like another. In fact, a bi-annual book would be great! I need a collection of these. lol
Love this triple play. Have y’all thought about bundling the patterns?
This was an awesome Triple Play. They are all so creative. Natalie is especially creative with her take on quits. This is the type Triple Play that makes me wish there was a bundle on the 3 patterns on the day the video is released.
Oh my gosh! All so cute. I think Natalie's quilt could be called "Kitty Corner". Jenny pointed out the kitty.
I'm so adding a tiny sashing on Natalie's quilt, between the blocks so I have kitties!
I saw the cat faes at the same time Jenny. This would be purrfect with embrodered faces. how cute!
Just made this mini star out of Christmas offcuts and I love it . Perhaps we could all make one each for your bed quilt and then you just sew them all together . I think that would make it very quiick. xx
