Tour of our 1998 Winnebago Minnie 22ft. Class C Motorhome

  • We just drove our 18 year old Class C motorhome, "The Minnie", from Georgia to Alaska without any major problems. Have owned it 15 years. Sorry about our dog "Slippers" barking, it doesn't go on through the whole video. Forgot to mention there's another air conditioner in the chassis cab, it will also cool the back of the coach because the motorhome is not too big. We average about 10.5 MPG fuel consumption if I keep it under 60MPH.

    I would definitely live out of one of these, way more freedom and luxury for the cost, the apartments for rent near me are terrible.

    Well, after 15 years we sold the beloved 1998 Minnie 22WK and upgraded to a 2016 Itasca Spirit 25B also made by Winnebago. I am going to leave this video up to help those who are considering buying this model or one similar.

      Thanks for leaving it up also. Like Christoper 600cc we are Class B/B+ fans with a Pleasure-Way on a Ford Cutaway Chassis with the V-10 E350. I really like the floorplan of the Minnie 22WK. Wish they still made it.

      Rust can be an issue with vehicles or RV's from the Northeast. We have a Ford Explorer that came from that area that has some rust. Hopefully you've already found the worse of it and your RV is good overall.

    I enjoyed video. I appreciate tour. I'm considering a small class C. Being "solo lady" I feel safe not having to exit upon arrival anywhere were if I was towing an rv. Iv heard leak complaints in the over cab area. The repair you had done looks very nice. I keep my RV in a garage since brought. from factory new. which keeps fad at 16 years at none. Happy Trails to you both. Dog is precious. Jp

      Kathy Hodges lol me too Kathy! I love the thought of randomly traveling the us in an RV-of course visiting family,exploring cities and towns would be so fun. Right now my husband and I are empty nesters and live in a 3200 sq foot house with a large yard and above ground pool. I know it sounds nice but we're in our 60's now and maintaining everything is tedious hard work. I would be ecstatic to size everything down and live in an RV.

    thanks for the video as the old rv's is the only way to go. am looking at 90's class c's now. quite making quality over 15 years ago. everybody turns out nightmares on wheels since then with lousy build quality, cheap materials and parts etc. only a couple of quality manufacturers building b+/class c, like born free, pleasure way, leisure time. even airstream is apparently turning out junk now as i saw a post from a guy that bought a airstream b new that was in the shop so much and spent so much time down and out waiting on parts he gave up and got rid of it.

    Was the dry rot repair from the improperly sealed awning installation covered by the awning installer? Seems like it should be, since it most likely was fairly expensive! By the way, that is one of the loveliest looking campgrounds I've ever seen, and I've seen a ton, as my husband and I were full time RV'ers for the last two years of his life

    • @gladuwf
      @gladuwf  Před 7 lety +1

      The company who installed the awning was a RV rental company that we bought the Minnie from and had paid extra for the awning to be added. By the time the water damage had set in and we had the body reconstructed the rental company we bought the Minnie from was no longer in business. They may have disputed liability and cause if they were still around. RV owners should inspect their seals every 6 to 12 months and fix them but the place on the awning was kind of hidden.

    • @gladuwf
      @gladuwf  Před 7 lety

      People might think I'm crazy for spending so much on the repair but we lived in Alaska where work is more expensive and we did use the RV for years after the work without any structural issues. It was done by Karen's RV of Anchorage, Alaska. They had it for a couple of months in the winter. The total cost was $11,000 for replacing the overhead structure and included resealing the entire roof. I was pleased with their work.

    • @michaelferry2733
      @michaelferry2733 Před 7 lety

      That does seem pricey to me but if it's worth it to you that's all that counts. I asked because I'm buying a '98 Coachmen Catalina 195 for $1900 and the cab over is shot even with a split below the window. I think I can seal it all up until I'm able to do the repair properly. The rig is just like yours with the V10, working generator so well worth it I think. Currently I'm in a 32' Bounder which I love but I want to be able to park anywhere. Being able to park downtown anywhere is HUGE! So, I'm beginning a new adventure and have a pretty big rebuild job in my future. So we'll see how it goes. Thanks for the feedback. How many miles on your Mini? What's the gas tank capacity?

    • @gladuwf
      @gladuwf  Před 7 lety +1

      The Minnie had 91,000 miles on it when I sold it a year ago. it had a 40 gal. gas tank. My understanding about an RV that has structural dry rot beneath the shell and a delaminated skin is that sealing the joint gaps doesn't repair the problem, the whole assembly begins to come apart. The only remediation is to replace the rotted wood and reskin. I had tried sealing the cabover a few times and gaps just kept getting wider, good luck.
