  • This short video was made in one afternoon.
    A demonstration from beginning to end - the making of a photopolymer photogravure plate and print. Using the Direct to Plate method.
    The process is carefully calibrated to produce reliable and predictable results. If you are interested in learning my calibration process - head over to my website for more information - www.silvi.com....

    This is so cool. I have some books with beautiful photogravure plates but never understood the process

    Polymer is not Photogravre. It's a plastic plate and there is no "gravure", as no etching takes place.
    Even so, this is a wonderful video, thanks for sharing.

      One could say the polymer is etched ...

      Yes the polymer layer of the plate is etched with water. The polymer dissolves where it has not hardened by the UV light.

    Hello! One question: how do you do the profile “Photo-gravure” on the quadtone? Do you use a stochastic screen or do you apply only this adaptative dither?

    • @silviglattauer392
      @silviglattauer392  Před rokem

      Hello - no stochastic screen. I print Direct to Plate sos the Inkjet printer dots act as a screen. Also I created the profile for quadtone. It's function is to turn off all inks except for Matt black.

    Amazing thank you. What is the thickness of the plate?

    This is a wonderful work ! I am actually looking for large photopolymer plate (A3 / A2 / A1) in order to print very large images ! Could you tell me which brand of photopolymer plate you use on this video, and pheraphs suggest me a good on-line shop where I could find large photopolymer plates ? Many thanks!

      I am using a JET plate in this video, but they are no longer made. I recommend you access TOYOBO PRINTIGHT KM 73 plates - easily available in the USA UK, EUROPE AND ASIA..

      @@tcdp9804 You can experiment with any photopolymer plate. If you want to do the Direct to Plate as in this video then you will need an Epson printer with a direct feed mechanism.

    I have An Epson L8180, do you think y could do DTP with this printer?

    • @silviglattauer392
      @silviglattauer392  Před 4 měsíci

      I'm sorry I am not familiar with that printer so cannot advise you. You need a direct feed section on the printer to feed the plate flat.

      @@silviglattauer392 yes, this printer has a direct feed section.

    Could i use a p700 for direct to plate?

    • @silviglattauer392
      @silviglattauer392  Před 7 měsíci

      The P700 will struggle to load a plate via the front feed. I do not recommend it.
