Two key things. Yep every 5 years. Mark the calendar and write on the battery or a sticker they date they were installed.
For the replacement. : F1 vs F2 Terminals. APC uses F2, which are the bigger ones. Just find a replacement that has F2 terminals. No need to pay 2x the price for the APC sticker that covers up the actual maker of the battery. Peal that label off and have a look.

I think the APC batteries are classed as high discharge rate batteries, CSB and Yuasa make similar types.

APCRBC batteries are made by CSB .
APC uses CSB batteries becasue CSB batteries are really good .
CSB makes HR High Rate battery models for UPS Standby use :
      CSB HR 1225w F2 , CSB HR 1234w F2 , CSB HR 1251w F2
CSB makes GP General Purpose battery models for UPS Standby use:
      CSB GP 1272 F2 7.2 ah , CSB GP 1212 F2 12 ah , CSB GP 1217 with M5 nut and bolt 17 ah
yes , some of the higer rate VA APC UPS , use HR batteries to reach those large power outputs .
For any higher powered UPS , order carefully . HR batteries have higher peak currents at the
2 to 5 minute interval to reach those high power demades of the higher wattage UPS,
which is somehting the GP batteries can't touch .
Peal off the APC battery sticker to read the CSB red text CSB battery model.
power just went out as i am typing ,...wtf ??? bye for now
His generic Synergy battery is 12volt 7 ah .
      CSB GP 1272 F2
      typically fits ,...24 dollars
( verify dimensions before ordering )

and yes , it was his fault , big time .

Those SLA batteries come with either F1 or F2 terminals. If you read the descriptions of the generic batteries, they should tell you what terminals they have. Some more well-known SLA battery manufacturers, like Mighty Max, will often ship adaptors in the box. A lot of those UPSes use F2 terminals. The battery you had would've fit, but the connection would've been LOOSE

The smaller battery terminals still "fit". The crimp on the connectors will secure them to these terminals properly, no issues. I replaced APC UPS batteries with these in the past without any problems.
Also, you should always remove loose labels and other junk (plastic "tabs", etc) stuck to batteries, as excessive heat is what kills batteries in the long run.

but the price for genue battery is comparable to entire unit cost.

I just looked and the prices of batteries have gone up a lot since I made the video. I wonder if they will go back down anytime in the future or if they are stuck at the high cost.

the battery they sent first was a knockoff / not official APC

    • @Rickmakes
      @Rickmakes  Před 3 měsíci +1

Yep. The original battery was not APC brand and wasn't sold as APC brand. It was sold as being compatible. The battery itself was fine, it just didn't have the correct terminals so I went with a genuine APC battery. I have used off brand SLA batteries for other applications and they worked fine.

APC uses F2 connectors. You bought an F! connector style. Hope you kept that other battery. All you have to do is spend $2 and buy a pair of F1 to F2 adaptors. Search on Google . Just push on the adaptors and youre done.

I could say it both of your faults. BUUUT.... IMO becuz of the SOLE PURPOSE OF THIS DEVICE BEING FOR EMERGENCY/ GENERAL BACKUP... I'd say its THEIR FAULT! No seriously. Just like your phone battery can warn you at %20 & again at 5% ..this should do the same. I have 2 and had a similair problem with the 1 today. In on an RV & not in a situation where I can just RUN for a battery at the drop of a hat. How on EARTH could we remember to check EVERY BATTERY ON EVERYTHING WE OWN?!!! LOL. It'd become a full time job! 😂
I feel there should be a warning... that the warning is coming! lol
