They perfectly captured the image of a leaping Jaguar... Right before it falls on its face during the landing. I love this trio.
That „glang“ gets me every time. It‘s not an explosion, not a dying battery, just a distinguished sound of a bell like last order in a pub. Very british way to end it.
In fact, it's quite the pretty sound. So musical.
Did you notice Clarkson trying his hardest to hide himself laughing at that point? That was, as they would say, brilliant!
That *glang* was most likely the sound of a piston breaking free of the crankshaft and getting smacked around in the crankcase and cylinder wall, and possibly smacking valves in the process, most likely due to the engine sustaining that landing and the timing chain/tensioner possibly snapping.
Gets me too...every time..HILLARIOUS!
Hammond recently admitted to regretting destroying the Jag he was using in this video.
I mean he runs a classic car restoration business now.. he should be pretty disappointed!

Possibly the starter, old jag starters (specifically the coupler) can make weird noises like that when you stop cranking an engine that doesn't start.
@@archygrey9093 it is the starter motor. Got a mark 10 and that's the sound it makes.

As someone who has had a rod thrown in their engine twice (yes, I know), I can say it's not something you can drive away from (if anything, you are now the proud owner of a 2 ton paperweight).

I seen a conrod go on my tractor while It didn't go all the way through it created a bulging crack in the block
Upon further investigation oil pressure was lost trough the balencer shafts and it went bang

I knew someone who thought they could just take the broken rod out and keep going it surprisingly ran....but only for about a mile before it literally shook itself off the mounts and promptly exploded.

I had a 1984 Jaguar XJS V12 - what I learned was this - I was no racing car even though it had a 160 mph speedo, it handled pretty well on Perelli tires, it was a huge gas hog, needing 95 octane fuel, and it was terribly expensive to maintain and repair! It was smooth, silent, sexy, glamorous to drive, and also looked great in my driveway or at the beach. Ladies if you can afford a good one, it is a classic car to own and be proud of.
I briefly had a V11 XJ-S.
Watching the fuel gauge became an obsession
Was going to service it, but buying twelve spark plugs is a painful prospect so I just changed the oil and got rid.
Never did find the missing cylinder.
That jag trying to start is still one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen

Like two older brothers scolding the youngest. And keep in mind, this is an old car and a Jag, but it's nowhere near being a unicorn.

My guess is the engine
I still want to know if they actually destroyed the car or if this was all a bit.
My father used to own one just like it. Actually there's a realistic chance this was the one he owned.
Knowing hammond’s history of being a menace to machinery, I believe this was real. The set up for the bit might have been staged with Hammond driving the car far beyond its ability, but the result from the Jump I think is genuine. Any car not built for landing like that will break, not to mention the car is around 60+ years old.
