    Bing this is great instruction. You have made it step by step. Moving right along here on playing. This I am sure going to practice.

      Excellent! Do a little bit every day; it will become increasingly more natural and easy.

    I've been trying to learn finger picking. Got a way to go, but this video was a great help. Lots of good info. Thanks!

    Bing great instruction. Could you clarify the G chord (finger/note placement) you are playing The Weary Kind. Do you have tab available for the song as well? Thanks

      Hi, Mark! G chord is 3 on the bass, 1 on the middle and melody string is open. I don't have tablature for "The Weary Kind" since I tend to just pick and sing, but it would make for a fun exercise for sure.

    What is the picking pattern you're using from the motion picture crazy heart I can't quite figure from the video I'm still new to playing dulcimer two weeks in at this point I could see it was bass middle Melody middle Melody I think 🤔

      bass - middle - melody - middle - melody - ONE - and - two and three - ONE - and - two - and - three. Hope this helps!

    I invariably use a fingerpicking style when playing dulcimer. If I am in a group and want more volume, I use a thumb pick and two steel finger picks. It’s much louder that way.

      I'll bet you inspire many to give it a try!

    Our group would like to do some video recording of dulcimer music. What equipment do you use or would you recommend? And how do you get those overhead shots?

    As a guitarist this feels right.

      That's wild! Given that the string set-up is backwards, does this create any confusion for you?

  • @alexernie
    @alexernie Před 5 lety

    How are you able to pluck the middle string? When mine is tuned to A it’s pretty floppy and doesn’t have much strength so it sounds off compared to the melody and bass strings.

    • @bingfutch
      @bingfutch  Před 5 lety +4

      Often times, the gauges we use for the middle string are too thin, there's more slack than with the other strings and this can lead to intonation and attack issues. Try bumping the number up one or two. (If you're using a .014 - try a .016) This will equalize the "feel" across all the string courses and make it easier to work with. Hope this helps!
