    I just bought my mountain dulcimer after falling in love with that sound while looking at celtic harps. That way of playing you are doing feels very medieval or renaissance and is exactly what I am trying to learn. Thank you for those picking patterns I have a lot to practice now!

    Guy this is brilliant. You play dulcimer so beautifully and the kind of tunes I like. This video has helped me learn basic finger picking and I can now play the tune. Yaay! Thanks so much. Guy

    That was beautiful. I love the mountain tunes but the classical touch is a whole new experience for me.

    Thanks for the lesson and beautiful music. I have played bass and mandolin on bluegrass and southern gospel songs. And I love celtic. So I have become intrigued by dulcimers, both mountain and stick. I build my own instruments now. I like the challenge and I can make it how I want it. I will be integrating your style to mine and see what I can do. Thanks again.

    I always thought of the Dulcimer as a accompaniment instrument just strummed but you have opened my eyes, fantastic. Just subscribed by the way.

    Hi, at last I find someone who uses his fingers. I've only had a dulcimer for a month and just can't get the strumming right with a plectrum!. I do much better with my fingers, so you have put my mind at rest. I will study your videos and try to follow your method. Thanks a lot, MJH

  • @ladykfilmartproductions273

    Thank you this is so great and I love CGC tuning like this. I never use DAD as CGC is easier to sing to and has a warmer sound :-)

    Really good thank you. I’m struggling without trying to get the melody out while adding fill notes. The concept eludes me for some reason. I understand the general idea but when I go to play my fill notes walk on my melody or I end up losing the melody all together. Is there any basic fundamental advice you may have to help break this down. I sure would appreciate any help you may provide. Thank you

    Always great Guy. Glad you are making more tutorials. I have had to set my dulcimer aside for now as I am taking care of my mother who has dementia. But will be back one of these days.

    Just now getting to this.. Tell me allI need to know! How much do they cost, what is a good one to get, how many strings, can you play chords on it, or just notes, what is the best wood, shape, etc.. everything!

    • @nickroberts6984
      @nickroberts6984 Před 4 lety

      I'm not an expert, by any means,
      but here's bwhat I know.
      They technically have only three strings, but sometimes the first string (or the melody string) is doubled.
      You can get a cheapy at Walmart,
      called First Act, for about $25.
      I would never part with my first dulcimer which was made by the late Keith Medlin of Morristown Tennessee. It cost $110 in the 70's.
      I had, and lost to pawn, a beautiful sounding dulcimer made by Mark Richard of Mount Airy North Carolina. I bought it through bargain Mart for $80 in the 90s. His will cost you around $600 - $700 today. I kick my butt every day for losing it !
      My most recent when was made by the late Bill Neely, of Damascus VA. It has a good sound but not as sweet as the one by Mark Richard.
      They are made of varying woods,
      I'm not sure that the type of wood is that important as is the quality of the builder.
      You can strum, pick, note or chord
      a dulcimer. This guy really is good !

    🎶 This is extremely helpful !
    I have only strummed chords up to this point, and have always wanted to learn a picking style.
    Of course you make it look easy, but I think I can do this ! ♥️
    Which tuning mode are you in ?

    I taught classical guitar but now play mt. dulcimer because of arthritis in my hands. Can you recommend a dulcimer besides the one you use (takes so long to get)? Classical guitars use nylon strings...yours is not that is it? Are you using four or three strings? I love baroque type music you play. Can you recommend a tab book for that? Do you usually use a speaker? Have many more questions but that's enough for now. Love your style, your harp stool and especially your choice of music. Thanks Lindy Black

    • @dulcibard
      @dulcibard  Před 4 lety +2

      3 stings. Steel strings, not nylon. Aeolus are the only dulcimers I play, but there are TONS of great ones. McSpadden would probably be my next suggestion.

    Hi, this does help, as I have not mastered any string instrument.I started with a Square Neck Dobro and every one tried to teach me by telling me about playing the guitar, needless to say I was more confused than enlightened. I saw learning this as a start to get me back to the Dobro, but am falling for the Dulcimer. still teaching myself with help from You Tube I am not advancing quickly as I'd like to. OK , What are your strings tuned to because mine are DAD and I do not sound like you? Also where would I find tabs to songs like this? Thanks you are good at teaching, I enjoy your playing.
