    I receive pictures, or perhaps short video’s in my minds eye, from time to time, without effort. Interesting. I experience another’s feelings/emotions before and during conversation in person or via the telephone. Your explanation was excellent, and I’m appreciative of it. I couldn’t have put it into words better. Thank you.

      I would add that there is almost a 'texture' to the 'feelings' or process when 'connected' empathically to another. Ive found it especialy useful to differentiate and characterize ones feelings from anothers. Literally, questioning especially when there is a sudden/noticeable shift of mood. Wow this is a really briallant share. Thank you so much 😊

      admentlore saruno That's a good tip. I can't think if I'm making eye contact. I get "lost" in the other person's eyes, and if they are not a safe person I'm afraid they will see into me. It bugs me that not making eye contact is supposed to be a sign of lying, that's not me at all.

I avoid looking at the other person, esp when I'm not comfortable around them yet, I don't want to see their face because I know I am going to interpret something from it and it's distracting. I also LOVE how you talked about having fun with FE and really just living in the moment and trying to connect with others, yet NI still picking up things...aaahh; also, you're infj, but why aren't you as expressive when you talk?

    I constantly have people telling me "You're so quiet." Quite often, I don't pick up clear images from people so much as perceptions & impressions (sometimes seemingly abstract), sometimes accompanied by brief, unspoken words & always with emotional energy of some type. It really depends on the other person & how much energy they are putting out. This doesn't typically work very well with people over the phone.
    It's so hard to explain how the whole INFJ-empath thing works. It's almost like trying to pull a coherent pattern out of random background noise. Order from chaos. It's not something that is usually consciously done, it's done down deep on such a subtle & natural level that it's simply not possible to put into words that most people can easily understand.

    I didn't know looking away while speaking is common between INFJs, very interesting! I often look away when I am talking to someone, I have to be extremely entertained and close with a person not to do this. A lot of the time it is from me searching my mind for the right words for my thoughts, but sometimes it is because I feel like the other person overpowers me, or because of the social anxiety many other INFJs talk about. It never occurred to me it also could do with looking into a persons soul, but that totally makes sense! I often feel peoples auras without looking into their eyes, some more than others; this can become very overwhelming in the sense it affects my mood. Looking away allows me to recluse enough not to see too much. Because you are right, looking into someones eyes shows their soul in much greater detail. I wish I didn't do this so much. People have told me when I do this it comes across as "I am too good for you" (my peers/friends) or "submissive" (my boss). And sensors think I'm just plain stupid. (only because their brain can't comprehend the complex patterns of the universe the ways Ns can. hehe) Do you have any tips on how to do this in a way that doesn't come across to others so negatively?

    • @scott.morgan
      @scott.morgan  Před 9 lety +5

      Hi Amber Conger, thanks for your thoughts and experience. It is a good question. I sometimes tell people why I am looking away, just like telling someone 'let me think about that for a minute'. It gives me room to think and lets the other person know whats going on. I think if you're picking up that they are confused as to why you are looking away, it may be appropriate is some situations to tell them why. Eg looking away helps me to process and think etc.

      Maybe looking in people's eyes stops your Ni function to work properly. Ni is a function that does most of it's work when no other active process is being used. So avoiding eye contact, could mean you're using your Ni at these moments.....?

  • @raijin6918
    @raijin6918 Před 6 lety +25

    As an ENTJ I personally believe that Ni is a back door into the subconscious mind, it is strongly connected to it. Ni wants to continually seek out and be fed information but it does this from within. I like talking to INFJs about philosophy and things of this nature and this is where I am most comfortable, I can freely discuss these conversations with INFJs which I cannot do with most of the other types because we are in a society dominated by the sensing types. Honestly I know this may sound messed up but I find sensing types to be vague, they seem to care about things without knowing why or wanting to understand why, they seem to be so surfaced that it annoys me and it's hard to talk to them without conflict of interest. I easily connect with Ni types such as the INFJ, INTJ, ENTJ and INTP, everything tends to be lack luster and I usually feel draind and unfulfilled when trying to talk to the other types. Too much headache and even though I love people at the same time I can't stand them because of Ni vs Se or Si.
    I don't dislike the other types but I know I compatibility with them is short coming as I feel they are too different from me to vibe with. I will say though I do like INFPs and can connect with them but this is usually person to person as they are so turbulent and red between the lines and confuse what I say and take it as an insult which can drive a wedge between me and them easily. Things tend to start out well with me and INFPs but end bad because of miscommunication.

    • @Coneman3
      @Coneman3 Před 7 měsíci

      Infp have opposite cog functions to INFJ, so not always a good match. INFP are conventional but about individualism, INFJ are unconventional but seek harmony.

  • @cahlelammon2846

    i also think the reason that we look away is that we think they can see inside of us as we do them, as they have the same access to the psychological reality as we do. As this is supposed to be a distinguishing feature of the type, I imagine that this is not the case. I think we just do not want to feel so naked (or in a way for THEM to be so naked), it scares us, or at least muddies our thinking. We look away.

    Hi. I am an INTJ, rather than an INFJ, but your description of "standing in between the conscious and unconscious or in both at the same time" is an experience that I know very well. It is not just at the edge of sleep, but can be when you are awake as well. It is more like standing at a door or a threshold of a dark room, and having things -- words, ideas, images, impressions, or just a sense of significance -- come to you. That dark room once you learn to trust it, can be a bit of a "black box", where things that need working out can be put into it, and be "processed" like software running in the background.

  • @faizal020
    @faizal020 Před 7 lety +25

    As an INFJ I absolutely hate eye contact!!! It's like I can easily see someone's soul without them even knowing. 98 percent of people I feel like they can't see through me but that 2 percent can see through me. When it happens with that 2% who can easily see through me I immediately look away. I'm usually the one who sees through someone, picking up cues, reading body language and energy not the other way around. I feel like I just shared myself without intentionally wanting to do so. Because of social norms we're required to have to maintain eye contact. So I try avoiding "seeing their soul"by fixating my eyes on them but without actually looking(if that makes sense). I've been told that I zone out and stare into distant or my eyes are fixated on a object for prolonged time. This happens in during conversations too. During conversations where I've been maintaining eye contact I've also observed that most people tend to look away from me it's as if I'm making them uncomfortable. I've been also told that I've intense eyes. Other people have asked me "not to look at them like that"

    Your analysis on when INFJs during Fe that the intuition takes a back seat, but still subconsciously gathers information during this time is accurate. I find that when I'm extroverting the NI subtly consciously or unconsciously picks up on some cues, body language, translates silence and energy etc. Which helps me how to conduct myself in that given time.Although I'm caught up in the moment Fe, I maybe not have enough time to make an precise analysis and look deeper into things . When I get home in solitude my mind starts introspection and analysing that's when my subconscious brings all the information to the forefront. The post processing and analysing starts make connections to patterns,comparing data and creating a spiderweb. Which I didn't have time to look into in depth during Fe period.

    Wow. I've known I was an introvert for a while now. This video describes me pretty well. In a conversation I can drift in and out, is how it feels. I listen , and watch until I've processed a certain amount then I feel compelled to drift inside my head, I'm aware of what the person is saying when I drift inwards, which only lasts a few seconds, but all the extra sensory information stops for those few seconds. Its kind of like, I take all the info I have amassed about that person and over the time I've known them and look at it all, together at the same time. Most people that I spend time around, I don't believe know themselves as well as I know them. They seem disconnected from themselves. When I meet someone new, I know them pretty well after talking just a little bit. It doesn't matter what we talk about or how much they hide or lie I just know. I see micro expressions and I feel the truth. What they say , their words I mean, often tells me far less than everything else .its very strong and in a group of my mates, usually six of us meet up now and again I gotta do it multiplied by six. When there's two diff convos happening I'm processing it all, and taking part in one. My girlfriend claims men cant multitask but id like to see her pull that one out of her ass.... It hurts my head sometimes. Anyone get this ? Sorry for the mini novella post btw but it could have been a lot longer

      My experience is that I can listen to multiple conversations all at once my brain automatically analyzes every and yet my mind can tell what the conversation is about as well as knowing my surroundings at the same time I am aware of my own thought process. I can use my conscious and sub conscious at the same time.my intuition is connected with my thoughts as well as my emotions but yet I do not leak any body language. Each movement or information you get from me is all calculated I have been told I do not give out any body language but I could if I want to and honestly I don’t get headaches. Even when I’m sick like a cough or allergies ear infection and other illnesses I don’t get headaches also for some reason I don’t get what people call brain freeze. I’ve done it where I’ve eaten a lot of ice cream slushes cold drinks I feel the coldness and it gets numb but I’ve yet to know how it feels to have a brain freeze.

    A self-healing method of an INFJ is talking to person and listening themself to what they are saying. Seems self absorbed, and it is because the purpose is self healing after all.
    All my long posts here are more of a similar healing method. Understanding is healing and I am so grateful for this forum. I secret little fear of mine is that I’ll sound self important or narcissistic because I’m sharing and also working things out.
    The epiphany I got after thinking over the video and my theories was this:
    See evil, Hear evil, but speak no evil. I think when we were young we saw the hypocrisy or the lie or the experience but when we incorrectly used our Judging voice we experienced wrath or behavior control to twist our minds but only our behavior could be controlled not our thoughts... the birth of the cluster B magnet and scape goated black sheep and even well behaved, love boned eggshell walking golden child.

    As an INFJ-empath, my own experiences have closely paralleled that of Susan Peters.
    Sometimes, the images I get are not always clear, more like perceptions & impressions, while at other times they can be quite vivid & powerful. I don't do as well with people over the phone.
    Along with picking up other people's emotions, I could ALMOST (but not quite) believe I can hear or "see" their unspoken words from time to time depending on their physical closeness, how emotionally intense they are at that moment, & other, more subtle factors. It all happens so naturally & easily, with little conscious effort on my part, I'm not sure I can express it in words understandable to someone else much less to myself.
    Sometimes, I can experience a person from a distance as I observe them approach me. More often than not, I know what a person is going to say just before they say it, & it's sometimes fun to watch their reactions when I almost literally take the unspoken words right out of their unopened mouths. 😅
    There are other things as well, but as I go back to re-read what I've just written, I wonder if I'm just slowly losing my INFJ mind.

    thank you so, so much. this was incredibly helpful. you really understand Ni. I cannot tell you the level of patience and sense of presence this short explanation has given me.
    As I am sure many know, what is incredibly difficult for an INfJ is that people do not understand (indeed I did not) why we have to look away so that we may "see", that looking at them can cause us to feel terrible confusion as we feel our thoughts and the sense of our impressions slipping away or becoming muddled, and that the intensity of our gaze/concentration as well as the quiet before our response is a kind of waiting/brooding period for us.
    What is interesting is that I feel that on some intuitive level I knew this, but to here you express with that level of clarity and insight is invaluable. I just walked out in public for the first time after watching this and noticed that the patience and presence I acknowledged in myself, was in some way registering a bit more with others.
    I am not sure if it is the same way for other INFJs, but I get the sense that we really just want to be able to peer inside ourselves unencumbered, for others to recognize this and allow us to do it. Allowing us (and allowing ourselves) to be there and not be there as we enjoy the process.
    I felt comfortable, happier, and a strange sense that i knew something that in some way i knew along.
    Anyways, not sure if that is clear, but thank you.

    100% accurate experiences of an INFJ. Even the way you explain the way INFJs explain things is so on par. I totally get you! I want to make a point too, that Introverted Intuition isn’t the same as meditation, even though it’s very useful and vivid in mediation, but our primary function is, in its essence, a function we use that’s naturally a part of ourselves. The example you use too, on how we have one foot in the conscious and another in the unconscious is really true, and it relates to our faulty introverted feeling and inferior extroverted sensing where we really can’t don’t know what’s reality or not, and how we feel personally what reality is or not, if that makes sense.

    Wow! Great video! This is so true. Even as a therapist I do look away as I am talking as if I’m waiting for the accurate words to communicate what I want. Also, eye contact is very intimate for me. I am aware I have an intense gaze and so I advert my gaze with strangers to avoid connecting intimately. Also, I’ve attracted men that I were not interested in by making eye contact briefly which can be quite inconvenient at times. 😆 if I’m quiet, I’m connecting dots. I like to say I communicate with a punch 🥊 of insight. I really appreciate the way you articulate everything.

I am thinking it helps me see them more clearly through their energy and voice and I can focus on what they say and don’t say and I get a less Diluted feel of the person not being completely open and real with me. Excellent video. All my life I thought this was simply a gift of discernment. This part of my personality has scared me and baffled those around me. I have walked into a public place more than once and walked up to complete strangers and told them exactly what was going on in their lives without knowing anything. I resigned as the pastor of a church one time and told two people that a particular young man in the church was going to be the pastor. The boy couldn't preach his way out of a paper sack, but somehow I knew he would take the reigns of the ship when I was out of the picture. When I expressed this to a few of my friends, they immediately thought I was crazy. I then went on to explain to them exactly how he would manage to do it. And six months later, the young man followed that track exactly down to the most minute detail and became pastor of the church. Several other men wanted to pastor the church, but he played his cards just right and it worked out to his advantage. I was the only person who saw the pieces of the puzzle and was able to put them together. These kind of things have happened in my life over and over again. I have overridden my initial gut feeling more that once and lived to regret it. You hit the nail on the head......ALWAYS TRUST THAT INITIAL INTUITIVE THOUGHT. I can't remember a time when it led me wrong. However, it has caused great stress on my closest relationships at times because of being misunderstood. Sometimes my wife doesn't understand how I feel at these moments. God bless!!

    Very interesting about the eye contact! I recently filmed myself speaking and watching it back I was irritated how much I kept looking away - its the first time I've become aware that I do it. I'd like to train myself out of it. In those cases I look away simply because I don't say something without thinking about it first, so there is a delay while I do that. Other times it is because making direct eye contact for too long means I receive too much information from the other person at once and its overwhelming.

      I sometimes and experienced the opposite for too long and unfortunately i didnt understand what the weirdness i got out of the "staring contest" potentially meant. Looking away is certainly less offensive and intimidating in my opinion. Its polite not to judge and receive all of anothers characteristics because seeing is of course a sensor we have built in and a powerful one. "Seeing is believing"; if youve ever heard that quote perhaps helpful but a fool who is looking to prey upon you many times demands that attention of eye contact due to the fact they want your soul for their own and typically are the masters at that one simple minded sense of sight. Idk, prolly stronger than a good persons ever but I think they found one blessing and disregard the rest of the senses as merely ignorant. All i can know is when needed you may have to again do something you dont like but in regards to save yourself especially if alone show them they cant handle the truth nor maintain any sense of sanity if they dont respect your wishes just as you try the same for them.
      Thank you too as its nice to hear through reading comments and so beautiful people practice #1 right if youre American. It represents the most sincere form of respect as too many folks perished to preserve that right amongst others. Just please be careful as with anything it seems to have its achilles heel. Thank you again :)

    This video just made me think about a good experience maybe to get what introverted intuition is about: sit down at a table face to face with another person but say nothing on both sides plus stay in silence and look at the other person intensely. Try to guess what the micro-expressions of this person mean and try to guess what the other person is thinking. Try to create a quiet atmosphere to connect deeply with your thoughts and your guessing skills. Of course it's a very awkward situation to experience and might be unbearable for some types but I think it's perfect to get the intense Ni concentration. Or try to find meanings into paintings, can also be very effective. I think we mostly have an intuitive connection with animals to be able to understand them and them to understand us because we can't use words to get what they think and want.

    Looking into peoples eyes can be at times a form of energy vampirism! People can hook into others energy field and then continue to take energy from said person even when not in their presence! This is why meditation, clearing work, spiritual baths are very important. It helps clear your energy inside and outside!

  • @oscarl.3563

    Your eyes are deeply connected to your mind. Whether you're directing them, or they are locking onto details, both run counter to intuition. Relaxing your eyes and 'looking into space', in a way, is the intuitive normal. Eyes may wander, on their own, but that is inherently different from _looking._ Anyways I felt like clearing that up and no I don't know why or how I know so don't ask! Whenever I try and prove something to people it doesn't work, and how could it? Nothing can truly be proven.

    I think I understand now what you mean by “one foot in the conscious, one foot in the unconscious.” It’s like (I think) when I’m observing a group setting from a distance and I’m aware of what’s going on yet I’m also developing a thread of thought in my head
    The hunch makes sense too-I get that odd “knowing” in some situations where I can’t really describe what it is but I know it’s there. It can definitely be pretty powerful, so I always try to take time to acknowledge it
