  • Ever wondered where the word 'Fugue' came from? Wonder no more.
Here is an interesting lesson on fugues (questionable) leading up to an (less than) impressive performance of Charles Burney's Fugue in F minor.

The ‘Anxious Organist’ knows full well the phenomenon of things going wrong when recording! The two pieces on my channel took numerous attempts. Thank you for sharing this piece - I very much enjoyed your rendition of it 😀

The Fugue you play must come from the Old English Organ Music for Manuals collections? It sounds very familiar to me as I’ve played it at some point too. You raise an interesting point about practising until it’s perfect…then the record button is pressed and everything goes haywire 😂 I might think about this more and answer it in a video. Your performance was great. The error you mention is so insignificant to me as you played very musically. Just keep doing what you’re doing and sharing with us.

Yes, it was from those books. Book 1. Thank you for you encouragement.

I agree with James Flores, the error was insignificant to me too, I enjoyed the piece very much. Being good at Latin but not music, I thought 'Fugue' had something to do with running away and meant a piece that was fast and fleeting. I didn't know it was a sophisticated kind of round, so thanks for that!

I am going on holiday this week, so there will be about a 3 week gap between videos.

This is an attractive Fugue, nicely played, and I’m grateful to you for bringing it to my attention. Do you use a manual 16 ft stop in this?

Yes, I did actually. The contra fagotto on the swell, box closed most of the way through. Contra fagotto and trumpet on great added at end.

I am going to play this piece on one of the next couple of Sundays. Although it's for manuals I feel inclined to add pedals for the little bit at the very end, after the rest. I'm not sure the purists would approve :o

I enjoyed very much your performance of this work that was unknown to me. Which is organ you are playing in this video? Greetings from a Brazilian organist!

I know just how you feel about recording. Turn on the recorder and it’s like you’ve never rehearsed - at least for me.
